"We had to be very sensitive to the fact that we were in a community which had a very long history of logging. We're not against logging at all, it's just that we thought the Wild River Valley was such a special place that it should be left as is, and that the logging could be done elsewhere." -- Dan Yetter, Friends of Wild River
In this video clip from the 2009 documentary "Forever Wild," members of the Friends of Wild River and Friends of Sandwich Range in New Hampshire talk about their efforts to have wilderness preservation and logging coexist in the White Mountain National Forest.
The groups were ultimately successful in having the Wild River Wilderness established, and having the existing Sandwich Range Wilderness expanded, under the New England Wilderness Act in December of 2006.
