We had a bad wildfire Aug 2023. Burned 100 structures in Elk WA. Our cabin survived because of a system i installed during my build. MOST of my neighbors home destroyed.

FIRE INSURANCE was likely removed BECAUSE they saw that Newsom wasn't doing preventative care and where is the $150M for forest care? and Mayor Bass cut $17.4M from the Fire Dept budget, not repairing trucks & equipment, etc. ALSO, the old power & phone lines are not being replaced and break in high winds causing fires too, besides arsonist. Chief of power & water didn't manage the water reservoirs. Fire chief too, DEI was more important for them and not ability, training or education.

Another thing that would be worthwhile would actually surprise you. Your drapes and some contents of your home can catch fire from heat radiated through the windows. A set of steel shutters like those in Florida to provide protection in a hurricane can help.

The insurance companies covering California should have put their resources into prevention, instead of their bonuses, as these winds and fires have been happening for years. This is a perfect in your face example of how the Insurance business is not serving or protecting their customers.
@chuckmarch555219 сағат бұрын
Sorry, i think you have an unrealistic(utopian) view of insurance companies. Unlike the fire and police depts their job is not to protect and serve, it is to make a profit. When the govt makes that impossiblr thru over regulation you have to go where you can make a profit. Its called free enterprise . Quit thinking like a socialist.
@Woodchuck196519 сағат бұрын
It's not the insurance companies job. Most of the insurance companies have quit providing fire insurance due to Californias regulations. The state is responsible for maintaining the forest to help prevent these kinds of wild fires from getting out of control.

@7:11 this current california government does not want to solve any of these problems, How many fires have we had in the past 10 years? In fact in LA county they cut 14M from the fire fighting budget. They care more about Homeless funding that lost 24Billion dollars that has gone without anyone providing answers to where that money has gone to.

Would love to see the building codes, especially in wild fire prone areas to include fire resistance materials for roofing and siding, fences etc. Things that were shown in the earlier example in the video with roofing and landscape design and sprinklers would be nice also, even if not required to at least affect insurance premiums

PBD, I live in Alberta Canada, 3 hrs from our Inferno, Jasper of 2024, looked into vids about saving houses from forest fires, you mentioned the stuff inside exploding into fire, yes, the biggest problem is vents and any opening into the house, the embers get blown in, have a nice place to turn into a fire, lots of food and not much wind, lots of oxygen then boom exploding fire eats the house , PREVENT THE EMBERS GETTING IN, EAVESTROUGHS THAT DONT CONTAIN FUEL, etc etc, its not terribly hard to fix these things, you dont have to be rich, you have to be interested/worried, and you have to act on it, i tell my friends who live out in the country and are vulnerable, i tell them, 'buy a large vinyl pool or a bunch of big tanks that you fill with water if a forest fire seems imminent or possible, get a bunch of gas water pumps and fire hoses and get ready, you can fight these things, these fires blow over quickly , the embers come first and start the fire, if you prevent and stop that, you stop losing houses, a little farther get some Scott Air masks and air bottles and air compressor stations so you can breathe when this fire comes through, in your basement, you can do all this for less than $10000 dollars, easily

I’ll never forget the fires that we had here in Southern California, the Grand Prix fire and the old fire. I know we had crazy fires in recent days but just being young in 2003 and seeing the mountains around us on fire was a hellish scenery I will never forget and I lived in Jurupa Valley, and we climbed on top of one of our local hills to get a view and man It was a site to see to the point where my dad was in shock and I remember that and me being a kid you don’t know what’s going on

Most homes are flammable. Most US home asphalt shingle, plywood pine trusses & framing. All highly flammable. Foam insulation as furniture pillows mattress all filled with foam. Plastics toys utensils containers and clothing shoes casing most electronics, remotes keyboards monitors, encased in plastic trash, cans most filled with plastics. Out rages creating products that are fire hazards. No one monitors

Trees (non dead trees) are actually pretty resistant to fire because they absorb and hold onto moisture (why ppl use dead wood for camp fires, not bark from live trees)

There’s one house kind of like a duplex the front house didn’t burn but the one in the back did, the house in the front has the old electric meters and the one in the back had the smart meter, Go figure if that’s another way to ignite the fire.
@jazamaraz802920 сағат бұрын
Because of the moisture in the live trees. Fire wood from a freshly felled tree needs to be seasoned, that is 'dryed out' about 6 months before it will easily burn. Similarly, the wood that is used to make houses has been dryed out and is far more flammable than the wood in living trees.

Solution: remove laws causing fire spread. Require every home have a large pool, 2 generators and 2 pumps all capable of stopping a fire. Check annually with auto inspection.Use grey water to water yard all the time. Require waterless toilets.

Sadly, these fires took place while most people still had their Christmas trees and decorations up throughout the home. I think the pool pump releasing water on the roof and running down the sides would be great. A metal roof would be great in any high-risk area.

The solution is to repeal CEQA, abolish the insurance rate caps and fast track all forest management, fire breaks and reservoir construction.

This is what I have kept saying for years. Especially when Lahaina homes were untouched that had the concrete sidings etc. And most of those people had the means you’re talking about multi millionaires. I feel stuck because I live in a condo in Southern California in fire zone. We can’t really do anything to our homes structure etc. and the hoa have no money with the insurance going 10x a year since 2 years ago and don’t have any way to authorize these things.

Key West has required metal roofs in their building codes on their structures since 1886 when the great fire of Key west destroyed large portions of the city. They haven't seen a disaster like that since. Stucco sidings are great but they only last for an hour, I think a water system that allows for water to fall all along the sides of the structures like a small water fall with the water collected in gutters at the bottom for reuse to provide constant flow of the water fall without the need for more water would work better. California homeowners also have to stop planting non natives grass, trees and plants around their property. The golden grass on California hills is an invasive species that's dry and highly flammable that is the primary source of fuel for the fires in the Pacific Palisades area and that grass covers California hills because early Spanish settlers planted that invasive grass for their livestock and now look at the disaster that's resulted from it. This is why you should never plant any moss, grass, plant or tress that aren't native to your area, you never know the harm that it could cause later down the line.

@Valuetainment don't stop what's working for ya'll. Just a note. Ya'lls video clips are usually pretty long. In the 20 plus minute range, I rarely make it through the entire clip. By comparison, Joe Rogan's clips are usually in the 8 to 15 minute range. What I find interesting is when you pull up these stories and videos, PBD rushes through the photos/videos and reads the copy like the 1980s Micro Machines ad guy. Just talking a mile a minute. Rogan doesn't do that. He has a 3 hour podcast, and he'll drill down on a topic that he's interested in. Sometimes it makes my head spin trying to understand what is in this story that PBD wants us to focus on. I wouldn't flash back & forth so much. I wouldn't read through the story so fast. Rogan has proven that people will stay & listen to content that they find interesting. For example, I clicked on this video because I found the topic interesting. Watching it now. I'm a bit confused. You're going through the topic too fast.

A fire proof concrete home in Maui burned to the ground . It is the same as Maui, weather modification. The houses were burning from inside. Do real research and explain the ashes. Fridges etc burned, glass melted while trees and leaves survived. Trees burned from within but their leaves didn't. Colours that don't burn as much are first blue, green and to lesser extent videod shoe plastic bins, cars and sun umbrellas survive in tact but the houses don't. Plenty of video evidence and research done for Maui. None of the rich lost their homes, estates or gardens in Maui. Most people's insurance don't cover wild fires, insurance policies were cancelled prior to this and renters content doesn't cover wild fires either. Smart cities and huge estates for the rich and famous will be the only housing built. Land grabs are all ready happening. Resources that are no longer covered with housing will be plundered. Much of it by the same companies that's neglect aided the extent of the damage. No consequences usually. The same electricity company whose negligence was held to have caused the fire that killed 84 only got a minor fine and carried in business as usual.
