My hats off to you and all other wildland firefighters. I am a retired structrual firefighter. I enjoy seeing your equipment and other items you have to carry. With you r work ethic, I wish you were on my structural firefighting crew.. If there is anything I can do to help you let me know. Be safe and have a good day. and keep making your video's. Thank you

This will be my 3rd year in Wildland, thanks for the gear list, I picked up a couple tricks. One thing that is super helpful is a pocket knife. A Cadet is a perfect little tool that doesn’t get in the way.
This is my first year and the crew I applied for said I need a pocket knife as a requirement, I’m going to be a federal employee for US Forest Service

That was the fastest 40min I’ve ever been through! I only meant to see what you carry for toiletries and ended up watching the entire video. Very well made!🏕

Excellent run down on how to live civilized in an uncivilized environment and acknowledging the place for quality vs poor quality gear based on use. Sometimes cheap is ok, though the middle ground is often the best approach.

Nice! I am a Equipment Operator for environmental restoration now, but I spent a good many years in wildland, handcrew, engine and eventually equipment operator. I love Mosko gear, I have all the reckless setups, and they hold up well. Great video, thanks for sharing!

For myself I HAVE to wear the sports underwear, the slick fabric because regular cotton ones make my legs chafe super bad. like painful within 20 minutes or so of sweating. Wool ones sound interesting though

Gojo or any orange mechanic cleaner works great for poison oak as well and it's pretty cheap I got a half gallon for like 12 bucks and just fill some smaller containers with it

Good stuff man! I recommend trying Drifire silkweight t-shirts. They are moisture wicking and FR rated. Very, very comfortable! Best place to get is off ebay as military surplus. Too expensive to buy on the commercial market. I love the ones I have!

Another great vid and I look forward to more Wildland Fire vids coming soon. My deployment is soon approaching and I am still buying necessary gear. As for your Thermarest pillow, was that the Large size 16" X 23" or the X Large 16.5" X 27" pillow ? Too bad they don't offer camo anymore. I saw this video yesterday and already went out and bought some of the items you had in the video and will get more of your items. Since I have not WLF deployed before, your vids are very helpful. Must our boots be NFPA rated or is that not really necessary ?
@WanderingBeast4 жыл бұрын
Not sure they had an xl large pillow when I bought it. Boots need to be 10 in high and all leather. But be aware of glued on soles, etc What boots are you looking at?
@centermass34544 жыл бұрын
@@WanderingBeast I ordered custom made Nick's Hot shots with NFPA rated sole and false tongue in Black and an extra set of laces. Right now, I am figuring out what tent to get. I am looking at the Marmot, Ultralight Tungsten 3P, which is 3 season. I am not sure if it will take the wind in the Sept. thru early Nov. time frame, but it seems like a better value compared to the 4 season Hilleberg Nallo GT 2P that is double the price that I am also considering. How much wind will there be? I did already get the Tecknu spray and soap and the Walmart box you had to store it in, was a perfect fit. I have the Crocs with strap. I still have not ordereed the Yellows and Greens. Any suggestions on where to best buy those? Open to any other ideas.

@@centermass3454 coaxsher vent pants and the beta x shirt are great, also really like the true north velcro throat collar shirts,better than the standard collar shirts. khaki pants are a few degrees cooler than the greens, but the coaxsher vent pants/ cx are wonderful.

You said you hang your clothes up in your tent. I've been curious about this, since this will be my first fire season: Can you keep your tent up at a fire camp while your out building fireline? is that normal?

Cody! I have a question, I’m on a contracting crew also, but work a full time job year round, I’m gonna try and do fire this season with my old crew but need to get the permission from my job to leave when called for fires. I know forest service gets a from stating they’re an emergency response group, As a contracting crew do you know if that applies for us as well?! Thank you!

I think itd depend on your job. IV had some that great with that. Others not so much. Sorry I cant help more

Do you restock on your two day breaks or ration it all out for the full season?
@WanderingBeast3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I restock in between, I usually buy enough for the season. So I can restock the consumables like wet swipes and stuff.

The WoolX boxers are no longer available on Amazon. Any other ideas for a low cost Merino Boxer ? Outdoor Research has now discontinued the Merino boxers they were offering.
@WanderingBeast4 жыл бұрын
did you try their website?
@centermass34544 жыл бұрын
@@WanderingBeast Yes, a cost prohibitive $35 each on WoolX web site. They were much cheaper on Amazon. I have 3 Merino Wool boxers from Outdoor Research which are great, I guess the rest i take wll be cotton. Today, I made another purchase your recommended, the packing cubes from Walmart. I also bought and 8.5" air mattress while I was there. I will put a closed cell foam pad under it and my sleeping bag on top of it.
