I have been following quite a few PCT hikers since April and almost all of them have been forced to skip the trail at some point due to fires so you should not feel guilty about what you guys have had to do. Your safety is more important than completing the trail in 1 go and it looks like the climate is going to make completing the PCT a lottery each year now. What you have both achieved is amazing and inspiring so congratulations and thank you for allowing us to be a part of it albeit from afar.

The fire closures are a bummer, but you’re killin’ it, anyway. Mt. St. Helens erupted in 1980, so more like 42 years ago.

loving the positive attitudes! many other hikers can learn a lot from watching you guys. It is refreshing to not have to hear a hiker complain about their footpath. It comes off as tone deaf for the actual victims of fires. I am glad you guys did not make a video crying and pouting about your footpath as I have seen others, it is hard to watch. Viewers want to see grateful, kind hikers. (I am not downplaying the fact that it would be devastating to disrupt your footpath and change up your hike when you have plans-I just think it comes off as spoiled and entitled in comparison to bigger problems like having no home or town or animals or anything, ya kno?) You two are so good at staying positive and being funny and having fun. I really enjoy you guys. Your hike will go as it is meant too, you are no less awesome or amazing or kick-a** because your footpath did not connect. You will still have a once in a lifetime experience others will not, and you will still have so much fun. Keep it up. You two rule! And I think you two could do anything you put your minds to! 🔥🔥💪💪🔥🔥🙏🙏🔥🔥💪💪🔥🔥🙏🙏🔥🔥

Almost everyone had to skip up to government camp. Some made it to crater lake but it’s too nuts. I know some have flipped up to Canada and decided to head south. Timberline lodge is where my parents honeymooned. It’s a really gorgeous and historic hotel. I grew up with a view of mount hood and Mt st Helen’s from my house. Both were so gorgeous when I was a kid. St Helen’s huge glaciers melted in 1980 with the eruption so it’s not as gorgeous as it was tho I still call it my mountain cuz our family camped there every year. Mt adams is gorgeous. The sand on Mt hood is actually volcanic ash from eruptions. And yes the moss there is crazy. It’s the PNW. Moss is everywhere. lol and that area is lousy with waterfalls. And that thorny plant you saw is thimble berries. They are pretty delicious. Hope you got to eat some. That area got hit with a massive burn about 4 yrs ago. That’s why you are seeing blow downs cuz of erosion. I get you feeling emotional about skipping. But you have been such beasts in trail. But trust me you don’t want to get stuck in the burn sections. Snd there is one section from just above crater lake to the junction to bend that is a hard closure. Some have been able to get rides to go the sections around it but it’s tough. Last year someone I followed did the road walk around it snd it was brutal. So enjoy the parts you can do now and save the Oregon sections for your well earned Dessert at the end of the trek. Crater lake is incredible. Honestly if you do from just north of crater lake through sisters down to Ashland, the sisters wilderness is gorgeous but big burn sections and miles of lava rock and it’s HOT and exposed. Better to go later when it’s cooler. Little to no water in places. Crater lake to Ashland is sort of the same. So it’s better to see WA now snd Oregon once the heat wave has passed snd the danger of burns is over. But thanks for posting snd keeping it real 😁👍🏼

No reason to feel guilty about skipping. You are being honest about it. The only people who need to feel guilty about skipping trail are those who then say they through hiked the entire PCT. Enjoy the hike that you are doing. I hope you do feel like hiking the rest of Orgeon at some point, but if you don't that's fine too. You've certainly had quite a summer either way.

Mount Rainier looked so close because it wasn't Mount Rainier. But probably you find that out in the meantime?
