It’s sad that people have restrictions regarding providing basic food for themselves and others.

If the case you referred to in FL was in Miami Shores/Miami Dade County I believe the local mayor was driving the charge against the food gardens there not being ascetically pleasing not the FL Governor. The city council also were vested in increasing property values rather than food for the common good. Thank goodness it worked out in the end.

Very interesting! Thanks for researching and sharing all this. I knew that Florida has a state law that allows Floridians to have front yard veggie gardens, but you make a good point that if it looks overgrown - - or smells, or attracts rodents or nuisance wildlife - - it might become an issue in some neighborhoods. I love that we also have a state law that allows beekeeping (with caveats) and I wish we could get a state law to allow a few hens for egg laying (more food security) because some towns/cities currently don't allow it and others do allow it.

Thanks GraceAbounds! I agree - having state laws to help having a consistent legal way to grow food (plants, animals and infrastructure such as water capturing) and have true small homesteads is the best. I find it funny we all put in for homestead exemptions for our property but don’t think of them as... mini farms 😅

When I planted my first garden on the side in the back of a very large, residential property, little neighbor comes over all the woman asked me do you not have money for food yes ma’am we prefer organic healthy good food she looked at me like I had three heads now, she’s eating my produce as quick as I can go at surprise taste better than Publix She said that was a huge compliment😆

Florida SB-82 no longer allows fines based on "the type of plant" you're growing. Food is good...

@juliemcgugan1244 Жыл бұрын
We did have them in the UK, during WW2...We had them during WW1, too. It is a good idea for any country, esp one at war, whose food supplies from abroad might be effected.

Good tutorial on attacking the left from the left, and the right from the right. I also prefer the libertarian method: Just do what you want on your own property. Also, I knew my city allowed front yard gardening, but it looks like they were just complying with the state level laws.

Perhaps the neighbors wouldnt mind as much if you didnt have a rooster, or had a quiet one.
@WildFloridian4 жыл бұрын
Yes, many neighbors will work with you. Even where chickens are legal, often roosters aren’t. We should try to be good neighbors 😄
