Fyi, I am a yank and I have hunted for the past 25 years. I own a beretta 12 ga over n under and always clean my shotgun after a hunt. No rust ever and I also keep my shotgun well oiled. My beretta 686 looks brand new still even after major duck and goose hunts. Never a problem in shooting it.

I like the comment at 12:20, regarding going back to an ordinary gun after a pump; I did almost rip the foregrip off my M2 after using my Supernova for three shoots.

Loved the video. Here in the States, the Atlantic Flyway has more saltwater marshes than not. Atlantic Flyway States are coastal with the exception of Vermont and West Virginia. For my taste buds less diving and more grazing makes for better flavor.

I use an early extrema, its 100% reliable and has shot over 30,000 cartridges. Other than a little extrema knocking an excellent video.

Any chance of a video on big bore shotguns? 10 bore and above, i shoot a sbs AYA Matador 10 bore and a 1867 blackpowder under leaver hammer single barrel 8 bore and confidently shoot geese at 65-70 yards away

We would love to, just need to get one in for sale, with some ammo preferably - orrrr you could send yours down?

in oz i been shooting ducks over 40 years, i used 7 shot lead and a baikal as a kid and extra tight fixed choke, i just like the tightest pattern as its how i learnt, ducks out at 70 yards dropped dead rarely a wounded duck, so then steel came in by force, got a stoager delux for steel, 5s in steel kill as far, get your choke matched to the cartridge you use. cartridges vary, i found dear shells ok but use clever the cheapest i could buy are great. i outshoot other shooters and i know this as we have a survey team check every hunters bag after we exit the water. and they said oh we watched you shoot what gun do you use and shells, i inform them to their shock. im old school, but steel is as good as lead, it actually maybe better, but that could be because load development has improved. 2 3/4 shells are all thats needed, i tried 3 inch, waist of money to me. the ducks dont die any different. dont aim at a ducks body, focus on its head. my stoager doesnt fit me, my baikal is perfect but cant use it on ducks. so im slower to shoot, but im old anyway lol.

Had never considered bird hunting as a beach sport before. In between catching a few waves I suppose. The gents are right that most US waterfowl shooting is over fresh water, but not all. It's been over 30 years, but I have hunted along the northern shores of the San Francisco Bay, though I doubt that anyone does any longer. A very informative video. I don't think I"ve ever seen anyone use a 10 gauge, and, in fact, I checked to see if they were even legal in California, and they apparently are in most areas.
@TheColorBearer6 жыл бұрын
Why wouldn't a ten gauge be legal? I started hunting with a ten gauge in 1994. It gets the job done.

I'm afraid none of the guns appeal to me. I've used a Winchester 101 3" since 1983 and although a bit heavy, I've used it on our North Norfolk foreshore, driven game and rough shooting and pest control with absolutely no issues. It handles heavy steel cartridges and if held straight it kills!
@Tyler_B.4 жыл бұрын
Great video. If your able to I would suggest taking a look at the Remington versamax and v3. I hunt with the v3 and absolutely love it.

Brilliant video ! Lots of valuable info . Pity about the sudden ending , is there a part 2 by any chance ? What is the guys' opinion on the Browning Maxus in 3 1/2" chamber ?
@tgsoutdoors6 жыл бұрын
No part 2 i'm afraid, that was only about 30 seconds from the ending, not sure what KZbin disliked about it! We talked off camera with Nick and he is trying to get one from Browning to demo.
@YaoiMastah6 жыл бұрын
A review of the Maxus would be awesome. My boyfriend has one, and he says it's the best semi-auto shotgun ever made (well, this was his first semi-auto). I'm thinking of buying one as well, but they're 300 euros more than one of those ATA semi-auto's everybody is raving about. (and the ATA's are 300 euro more than the Krals that seems to be flooding the market as well)
@Christafro6 жыл бұрын
I have shot a Maxus for the last 3 years Waterfowl hunting and it has been great. No malfunctions, simple to clean, and it shoots soft.
@tgsoutdoors6 жыл бұрын
I would steer clear of cheap semi-autos as a rule, there are only a few with the back up service needed when they do break, in the UK at least
@YaoiMastah6 жыл бұрын
Good point. Over here, people use them for goose/crow-control mostly. Not as their main sporting gun.

This was probably one of the best and most informative videos you've done! Its just makes me want to drop what I'm doing and sign up for some wildfowling right now. I imagine they are using primarily 3 inch steel number 1s right? Is it possible to get non-toxic 00 buckshot cartridges? Because I heard those are popular for shooting geese in-land.
@mrsmith90792 жыл бұрын
I don't know who told you that 00 buck was common for inland goose shooting here, but it's certainly not true. In areas where it is still legal to use lead ammunition on waterfowl, it would be far more common to see lead 3 to lead 1 shot being used.

My only issue with camouflage guns is as they get old, the pattern fades and they turn into baby poo green. That one in the video is already on its way. Is that a CZ 550 in the left corner with the scope on it?

Somewhere up there waterfowl have a right to fly. For me, and for all of the men with whom I've ever shot, it's anything beyond about 50 yards, but with a distinct preference for closer birds. This requires self discipline on the part of the shooter. There's a life lesson there. The goal is a clean kill with no wounded birds. Wound a couple of birds and you're unlikely to be invited again. If you NEED meat, buy it at a store.

We are not even allowed 10g for some reason in my country, they think we will kill the bird too much? not that I feel the need for it anyway, even geese die from 20 or 16g and the distances talked about is alien to me, 65 yards? different cultures I guess, and getting multiple birds in one shot?
@tgsoutdoors6 жыл бұрын
What ranges would you shoot at?
@yeahbee82376 жыл бұрын
Well in our qualification for hunting certifications we shoot at 20 meters, 25 is kinda considered max. but that is abit of Swedish goody two shoes syndromes, they lowered the limit in recent years, and it is not like it is a explicit law, it is just what is in the textbook literally, and they exaggerate to keep new hunters from wounding I guess one portion of the qualification is distance telling, you walk around a prepared path with targets and have to say shot or not shot, the correct ones are at 20m at the ones you fail are at 30 I guess I go up to 30 or so, not 40, if I am hunting deer I have a combination gun anyway so just use the rifle barrel when geese hunting I put the decoys 20 or so meters away to get some wiggleroom, most of the time I limit myself to only shoot geese that really commit and come into their landing, only got a spot or two that works for shooting them in transit anyway
@tgsoutdoors6 жыл бұрын
There is some wonderful irony that everyone in the UK is looking to shoot higher and higher birds to test their and their equipment's abilities! Certainly there is a stigma behind shooting birds too close, which is ironic, given the bird will die either way. What would you use your rifled barrel on? Can you shoot deer with a shotgun?
@yeahbee82376 жыл бұрын
The Gun Shop Roedeer is okey with shotgun Fallow okey with slugs I use the rifled barrel on just about anything really 6,5x55 is about the minimum allowed for our big game like moose, bear, boar
@yeahbee82376 жыл бұрын
Should be about ethics Risky shots is not ethical imo Further away = higher chance of wounding Hunters should not be testing they should shot up to their ability

Americans don't shoot wildfowl in a "salt environment"? The only wildfowling this American has ever done was done in a far more salty environment than a UK foreshore. The environment I am speaking of is the largest lake in California, an inland body of water some 227 feet below sea level known as the Salton Sea, which is a salt-water lake with significantly more parts of salt per million than the Pacific Ocean. I don;t know for sure, but I think people still shoot wildfowl on Chesapeake Bay, too, which is also a salt-water environment. The areas of California's Sacramento River Delta can go a bit beyond "brackish," too.
@nickhorten975 жыл бұрын
Hi Jerrold, thanks for your observations. The point I was trying to make was that black Benellis are prone to rusting in the salt air. Benelli sell lots of guns to the U.S. where the majority of users shoot on non salt water or in dry fields. Only a limited number of Benelli buyers shoot in a salt environment as damaging as yours so - logically - Benelli would recieve far less complaints about this shortcoming from U.S. waterfowlers meaning they are less likely to want to address the problem. The number of Benelli users who shoot the Salton Sea must be relatively small. Incidentally, the Chesapaeake has over fifteen fresh water rivers flowing into it and it is significantly less saline than the adjacent open sea. I don`t doubt that there are waterfowl hunters in the U.S. who hunt coastal marshes, it`s just that they are less numerous than those hunting in a non saline environment.

Interesting comments from Nick. My Xtrema has been a fantastic, reliable gun for me over the last 9 years or so. Just because he can't use one, doesn't mean others can't. I have shot hundreds of geese with it and many thousands of pigeons. Watch my videos for some evidence of this. Comments like his just annoy me.
@tgsoutdoors6 жыл бұрын
It is well documented that the Extrema 1 was not the most reliable machine, Nick suffered with owning one i believe as have members of his club. You are lucky to have a good one.
@waynemotty32656 жыл бұрын
As far as I am aware, reliability doesn't affect handling. It is not a huge beast of a gun, and doesn't require much effort to kill close stuff. I really don't know where the guy is coming from! His comments are just odd.
