Wildlife Wednesday: Western Chorus Frogs

The mating calls of western chorus frogs (Pseudacris triseriata) have been filling the air lately. ✨ During its March-May mating season, this frog is very vocal in Lake County. Its call sounds like someone dragging their fingernail along a comb. Listen near vernal ponds-seasonal pools of water that often serve as breeding habitat for amphibians-and roadside ditches.
Wet weather such as we’re seeing this week is a great time to hear frogs. Grab a rain jacket and rubber boots to thoroughly enjoy the chorus. 🐸
