The first painting I was ever proud of was the one where I put your advice into action. Your videos have been the sole inspiration for improving my skills and trusting myself to stick with a piece rather than giving up on it when my vision isn't coming together. Your advice is just so well taught and have really sparked my passion for art again. Thank you
@asherrogers26872 жыл бұрын
At least I'm not the only one who gives up. I'm always so excited to start, but then I get hung up actually beginning. Then I get excited about techniques, and using new ones, but then I get hung up again. And towards the end I start thinking of all the changes, it's overwhelming, and then I get hung up on the completion. I TRY to remember art should be enjoyable! I'll start watching more of his videos since they obviously helped you.
@jeswanderingaround2 жыл бұрын
@@asherrogers2687 Yes! Same here.. I'm so excited to get a new painting going but then I just end up getting more frustrated than anything thinking to myself "aren't I suppose to be enjoying this" I know art isn't meant to be perfect yet always so quick to criticize my own talents. The patience he has to make a piece come together the way he does has been very inspiring, and something I try to practice as well. I'm nowhere near where I want to be, but his videos truly have helped me get on the right track!

I can't even begin to explain how much I understand this. Without even knowing it, I, too have been trying to change my techniques as I realized I was afraid of it. It's a mental thing for me as I'm extremely detail oriented and it's to a fault. I'm trying to rewire my brain, try hard things, switch things up, etc. It's hard, too, cause I catch myself reverting back to my old ways if I'm bot focused enough. I'm quite intrigued and excited to see if this is the way I can really learn to let myself shine! So refreshing and reassuring to me to hear you say thr exact things I've been thinking about. I'm no artist, I wish, but for a second there I felt like we were connected. So cool, that kinda thing doesn't happen to often for me. I feel truly heard. Understood. It's amazing! Thank you, I have absolutely loved watching you create and grow over the past 4+ years, it's honestly made such a difference in my life. Because of YOU I finally feel talented. You made me believe in me, and because of that, I feel talented and that's kind of the only thing I feel actually semi good at. I'm sure I'm just being hard on myself, but you made this possible for me. So thank you, Chuck, I hope you're still going for many more years to come! I'm sorry it's so long winded, lol, I had to get it out! I'm a little high at the moment, and I'm sitting down and just about to start painting, and then you show up with this incredibly reassuring KZbin video, and I just had to comment.... a lot! hahaha Anyways, take care! 🤪

Not sure if this helps but a light source from either the left or right is much easier than one from behind, above or in front. Just a beginner tip I discovered. Happy painting!

Hey Chuck! I'm having to play "catch-up". With the hols and me being the one doing all the decorating, cooking, cleaning up afterwards, taking care of Mother...well, you get the picture😉 Love this painting!!! There is an "expectancy" about it..."What is just round that tree?", on the left type of thing. That, and the quality of detail you put in it, gives it a compelling aspect. The light coming through the tree, on the left, is amasing! Fantastic, as always!!!!!

My jaw is dropped. Insanely stunning work. Chuck, how long would it take for something like this to dry? I'm an acrylic painter looking to try out oils at some point, but knowing that I'd wish to paint solvent-free I'm guessing I'd have to wait quite a bit of time in between coats.

Looks great chuck. Always appreciate your information and perspective you gain. Thanks brother. I’m kinda struggling with this oiling out talk tho. Is it possible if you could find time to discuss that more in one of your next videos. Like I get what it’s used for and what not just it’s hard to find detailed info on it. Like how you discuss your process is the best. I just vibe with you the most haha would like to see it done if possible. I known your a busy man. And are you useing linseed or walnut oil? Does it matter. Or are you just using liquin?

So this is what terrifies me about starting in oils. I have bought almost every color I use in acrylics, and for a month they have just sat there. There is no way I could pull of the beginner version of this.

Your oil paintings aren't like landscape paintings of most artists. Yours is like the style of oil portraits....
@doctirdaddy48762 жыл бұрын
theres no shame in doing a sky like that in acrylic so you arent making things harder yourself when you start on the trees. its still alla prima since acrylic dries faster, alla prima just means "in one sitting." plus the flatness of acrylic works really well for things in the background since its got little luminance compared to oil, it sits firmly behind the oil painted foreground.
