You mentioning bargaining with the tokens created by The Apprentice’s Folly, but the really nice synergy will be sacrificing the saga itself (as it is an enchantment) to avoid losing the copies entirely. I predict this will be an extremely potent synergy, and I wonder if it would have been strong enough to consider an even higher rating.

I think it depends a lot on the rest of the set, and how prevalent bargain strategies end up becoming as having a critical mass of bargain cards is what would push this card up in power.

16:26 First thing that comes to mind with Folly is that you can sacrifice the saga for any bargain cost to avoid the 3rd chapter and keep the creatures. 18:50 That card could explains why bargain doesn't let you easily sac any creatures.

I've gotten a lot of new friends to play magic with me. We always watch these in 2x speed on our way to pre release events and the time leading up it's great to see everything I like to keep in the back of my head removal spells and instant pump effects that can kill me so I know if I should be worried or not in a game

With Eriette you can put your (beneficial) auras on opponents creatures to make them not be able to attack you and then drain them out. Even if you have say 2 auras draining for 2 is an incredibly powerful effect in limited. While it is an all in strategy since if she dies you are probably screwed but as a base 3 mana 2/4 with certainly a powerful ability I think she has to be higher than C+.

I believe Lich-Knights conquest is a very powerful card with a proper set up in constructed. Just imagine, milling yourself, and then reanimate a few finishers as titan of industry, shelly, etc for only 5 mana.

With so many Enchantments, I think the 'Break the Spell' will play a much larger utility role (maximum C probably). Can destroy those killer bombs (i.e. Virtue of Loyalty) or just cantrip it off of one of your own 'roles', token, etc....which would matter for some other aura/enchantment-to-graveyard decks

I'm gonna go ahead and say it. I like the Sleep-Cursed Faerie quite a bit. For only a single blue, that's a steal.

Shatter the Oath is enchantment removal in black. I think the first copy is desirable as soon as you are unable to pick game winning cards. Otherwise you are vulnerable to a deck strategy of board stall until enchantment based wincon. For similar reasons I think Eriette being able to progress to victory during a board stall makes her higher value. Toughness 1 on white and red is almost an upside as their draft chaff commons give young hero which wants you to swing with low toughness to generate counters, then bargain the role after it has served its purpose.

Merry Bards and Cut In are the only Young Hero enablers that I would be happy to play in most decks, so I still see 1-toughness as a liability more than an advantage.

I used Eriette's Tempting Apple in a prerelease event, I won 7 out of 20 games due to it, helping me get through the final damage (+14 dmg in one game :D) Fantastic card for aggro decks or sideboard card vs. decks loaded with big critters The fact, that this is not red for once can surprise people early on, will get worse over the weeks maybe, as people don`t leave themselves open for it anymore This set is fantastic overall, looking forward to drafting

Thanks for the great review. I've noticed that some of the Sagas in the set get you great value if you Bargain them away before their last chapter - the Apprentice's Folly is a good example. Sacrifice the Saga to a Bargain card on the second turn, and you get to keep your Reflections!

I think people are sleeping on the sleep cursed faery (hehe). Yes, it's a real downside that you can't use this for a couple of turns after playing it, but it's also a 3/3 flyer with ward 2 for only 1 mana. You can play it on turn one and just forget about it or easily double spell on another turn because it's so cheap. If you are playing blue this doesn't ask anything of you and since blue draws a lot of cards being "down" a card doesnt even make a big difference. I'm not arguing that this is a bomb or even a very good card, but that most people right now underestimate it.

So, for three bowls of porridge at 4:25:18 , something you didn't mention is that for its third effect to sacrifice it and gain 3 life, the sacrifice is not a cost, so what this means is, you can choose that, and then sacrifice Three Bowls of Poridge in response to both gain 3 life and also sacrifice it to some other food sacrifice.

@2:20:25 "Succumb to the Cold" is a very interesting card, design-wise.. I don't think I've seen another worded that way when choosing targets. It's usually "choose up to X" and makes me wonder if there's a difference as they usually do these things for a reason.

Giving Break the Spell a D is actually criminal. They're are barely any enchantment removal in this set and when a vast majority of the cards revolve around the enchanting tales/roles, having that removal is really strong.

From what I understand those are creature type spells at all times except when the adventure is cast and is on the stack. The way it's worded, it looks like that doesn't actually work. I don't think you can tutor for those cards either, if searching for instant or sorcery.

Thank you for the review, LVD. These enchanted tales are a big step down from the Multiverse Legends and Brothers' War Retro Artifacts. I guess I'm happy about that, as I disliked a lot of the variance that those cards introduced to the limited format, but the majority of these Enchanted Tales serve little to no purpose at all in limited. It's weird for a card specialty that's meant to be played in limited to be so narrowly useful.

For Break the Spell, I’m surprised you gave it a D. Given the roles are “token enchantment - aura role”s, it seems like you could pop a “curse” that your opponent gave you and draw a card for only 1 mana, and at Instant speed. Or pop an opponent’s monster role to deprive them of Trample for a blocking phase, even without a draw; or pop their Royal role to remove the ward from a problem creature. Maybe I’m too nervous about curses, but that seems better-than-bad-filler level to me. Or, with your own Cursed Courtier, remove the curse token to draw, enabling your frog to be a 3/3 A Tale for the Ages, maybe only combos with the prior Spellbook Vender bomb card, as every combat phase it makes a new enchantment for a creature you control; so effectively every creature you'd have with those two out together gets +3/+3

With Johann, apprentice sorcerer, are you sure you can cast adventure cards from the top of your library? correct me if I'm wrong but I am pretty sure the adventure cards only count as an instant or sorcery spell if they are on the stack. If the card is anywhere else, it counts as the permanent type that it is. Therefore you would not be able to adventure it out from the top of your library with Johann. Edit: I did find the answer in the release notes and I am wrong. you can cast the adventure from the top of your library with Johann. I think they should have put that in Johann's wording tho because it is definitely confusing.

There's a few cards in the Enchanting Tales sheet that mention creature types (Shared Animosity, for example) and you rank them quite low because the only creature type strongly supported by the set is Faeries. I agree with this rationale in general, but aren't rats another well supported creature type for these effects?

So there were a few pretty significant things I think LVD overlooked during this review (possibly he put in some notes for the KZbin edit-I’m just going based on the Twitch stream), but the most pervasive one was this: I really don’t think he fully appreciated the importance of the role tokens falling off when doubled up. In particular this is a huge deal in white/black where enchantments hitting the graveyard is the major theme, and it also makes those two creatures that give your own stuff Cursed Role tokens a lot better.

Have you ever thought about seperating the common/uncommons from the rares/mythics either by ordering them differently or by havong two videos? Sorry if that has been asked before, just curious because it seems like it would make the videos easier to use for reference

Anything that isn't sorted by collector number would add a bunch more overhead to the way I save the card images. I tried automating some of it but scryfall wasn't returning images for every automated card request at the time of recording. This way cards are sorted alphabetically so it's easy to find specific ones. The spreadsheet for Patreon supporters makes it easy to spot cards by rarity.

D for A tale for the Ages? That is preposterous and I am calling the worst off grade. If you have one enchanted creature it is giving it +2/+2 which for 2 mana is already okey. It will give all your future enchanted creatures also +2/+2 which in this set is easy to do. While there will be decks that might not want it this will be the most insane build around in the set and definitely an A.

If you compare it to something like Agatha's Soul Cauldron for example which got a higher grade and you based it on you getting +3/+3 or +4/+4 from a 2 mana investment I would be shocked if you can build around it and you do not get +4/+4 from it. It is also faster in providing the buff and I would argue less set up. Of course the ceiling is sky high and you might easily get +10+10 from it during the course of the game (at which point the game will probably end of course).
