I love how they employ locals to get the bamboo for the panda
@solitaireburton37404 жыл бұрын
I do believe that if you can involve the locals, they start to become more willing to conserve the animals. I think they are trying this in some areas in Africa, with elephants.

Dont get me wrong, i dont want to take this into religious areas or anything, but: Think about it: Could there be a reason why it's birth is so inefficient and the Species overall so 'needy'? Could this be meant, one way or another, to be a lesson for Humans to help the helpless? And i would not even think about it, i guess, if there werent so many other examples. Humans learned extremly much from Nature - the most famous example being Da Vinci. Fact is: Current airplanes all descend from his aircraft-skizzes, his written down plans. And what were those plans? Well, they were in fact Obversation-Results after observing Nature. Da Vinci tried to create many machines, even flying machines: For that, he observed everything from Bats to Dandelions. And more.

Why did the panda moter and babies separated? I don't understand Properly Very sad ending 😭
@karllywithak3 жыл бұрын
@@OdiaSongLyrics The babies and mother pandas get separated because Panda mothers mainly are only able to take care of one baby at a time so they most likely forget the other one. When they are separated, caretakers can make sure both babies stay alive, get the help they need to grow healthy and be strong so they don't die off. This method/way helps to keep more pandas in the wildlife so they won't become extinct since they're sadly decreasing in numbers and quickly.
@mizhenzhen63943 жыл бұрын
@@OdiaSongLyrics The mother was born and spent her whole life in Wolong Center. It's not possible for her to go back to the wild anymore. However, the babies still can. So they separate them and encourage the babies to gain living skills and survive on their own as early as possible. Since this mom is very caring and easyly coorperated with human, she is probably specially selected, just for breed.
@charles58953 жыл бұрын
As cute as they are, don’t approach a wild panda. These pandas have not been exposed to the wild and so they are effectively harmless. But wild pandas can strike a blow powerful enough to damage your bones.
@ex0duzz3 жыл бұрын
They separate the mother so she can get pregnant Again because they only get in heat once a year for like a few weeks. If she is looking after the babies still she won't be able to get pregnant or care for new babies. Their goal is to raise the population to save them from extinction, not to just make one small happy family which if left alone to be "natural", they will go extinct already. So while it's not completely natural and is kinda tragic for the mother, she is basically turned into a baby farm. But that is a small price to pay to save them from extinction, and it's not like they are mistreating the mother either, she probably lives better life than those in the wild living "naturally". Normally babies stay with the mother for 18 months, but here they separate them after just 6 months. So it's like they speed up the birth rate and produce 3 times as many babies as they would "naturally", or even more, because in the wild, the second baby would be ignored and would have died in the first few weeks, and even the first baby might not survive in the wild. Too easy to get disease or the mother might even kill it by accident. They had to learn all the above through trial and error, and go through many deaths as a result, but now they're very successful and have saved the pandas from extinction, even if there is only 1,500 in the whole world still, at least it's going up, which makes this the most successful panda program in the whole world. Other countries that China lends pandas can't even take care of just one panda properly and need specialised care and environment, and usually also a Chinese nanny to help them out and explain everything that is needed for them to survive. You can't just put them in a cage at a zoo and dump bamboo in their and expect them to not only survive, but thrive. They need constant care and attention. In case you missed it, they are very fussy and eccentric and all have their own personalities and habits. If they don't like you they won't bond with you, just like how number 1 didn't want to bond with its own mother and vice versa, but they kept at it everyday for 3 weeks just to make the mother and baby accept each other. That is hard work which countries overseas might not be able to afford and yet it is crucial for the baby to survive and thrive since they feed and need to learn life skills from the mother, and also to not prefer humans over their own kind otherwise they will never survive in the wild, which is what the main goal is. This is part of the reason why China is very picky about who it lends pandas to. Other reason is of course political.

Even if human interference wasn't a factor I wonder it Pandas would have naturally become extinct based on there over dependence on Bamboo and difficulties procreating .
@garymoh48284 жыл бұрын
Actually the low number today is actually due to loss of habitat due to human expansion through out the centuries. Without the bamboo forest, Panda could not survive. Anyway since the start of conservation effort in the middle of last century, the wild population has increased from about 1,000 in 1990s to 1,864 in 2015. And captive Panda has reached 600 last year. Therefore the status of Panda have been upgraded from endangered to vulnerable by WWF. Now China is building the "Giant Panda National Park" which will be 3 times that US Yellowstone Park, to further protect the Pandas. Within the park, all human activities will ceased and residents within are encourage to move with incentives. Those who wish to remain in their ancestral home could be employed in the conservation effort. For example younger men could be trained & employed as Rangers to help maintain the whole ecological system. Older men could be employed for reforestation like planting new tree and bamboo etc. Within the park, isolated Panda population will be linked to other population through newly created "forested corridors" so to increase their genetic diversity & eventually numbers. At the same time, trained captive Panda are also released in those areas to increase their genetic diversity and numbers too. Currently, Pandas are only found in three provinces, namely Sichuan whereby about 70+% of wild Pandas are found there. Other are in Minshan mountain range in Gansu province & Qinling mountain range in Shaanxi Province. www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/2019/05/giant-pandas-national-park-china/ I recently read that they might even want to release some Pandas into Jiangxi Province so to create another new wild population there. After all, Panda in ancient time were found in the whole of Southern China and part of Northern China, Northern Vietnam and Northern Myanmar. www.sohu.com/a/361087044_769150

@@garymoh4828 Thank you for this information, it's very reassuring to know that their numbers in the wild have increased almost 2-fold over some 25 years, although it seems slow but I really hope they can successfully reintroduce some captive-born and bred ones to their natural habitat. If they can survive and thrive with the least or no human intervention, that would be something of a miracle indeed.
@garymoh48284 жыл бұрын
@@potatohorse8304 Well, the re-wild program and eventual release of captive Pandas into a wild population started early this century. So far at least 11 have been released and 9 have survived in the wild. This all take more than a decade to perfect, the first is a male Panda called 祥祥/Xiang Xiang. He started training in 2003 in a semi-wild environment to be observed by human to determine whether he is ready. He was then released into a nature reserve in Apr 2006. But by 22 Dec 2006, he was found injured and was recaptured and to be healed. He was released after that on 30 Dec, but by 7 Jan 2007, the signal to the radio collar went dead. Only by 19 Feb 2007, they found the dead body of 祥祥/Xiang Xiang in a gully, probably fell from higher elevation into to gully and hit some rock when escaping from a fight with a wild male Panda. This tragedy delay the programme for a few years, this time around with wild born captive Panda mum 草草/Cao Cao with her male cub 淘淘/Tao Tao in a enclosed semi-wild Wolong Hetaoping Wilderness Training Base. 草草/Cao Cao was able to teach her cub all the survival skill necessary in the wild since she is wild born Panda & therefore 淘淘/Tao Tao was released into wild in Oct 2012 after evaluation. Forest Ranger found him doing well on July 2016 through his embedded electronic tag in his body. Then there is a change of direction, releasing male Panda has a much higher risk than female Panda, because male wild Panda might fight against any new male Panda in their territory due to their territorial instinct, therefore the direction is to release female only for the time being. Here the list of female Pandas that were released later, all are female except 八喜/Ba Xi : 3) 张想/Zhang Xiang(DOR:2013) 4) 雪雪/XueXue (DOR:2014 but died later due to virus infection) 5) 华姣/Hua Jiao (DOR:2015) 6) 华妍/Hua Yan (DOR:2016) 7) 张梦/Zhang Meng (DOR:2016) 8) 映雪 /Ying Xue (DOR: 2017) 9) 八喜/Ba Xi (DOR:2017) 10) 小核桃/Xiao He Tao (DOR: 2018) 11) 琴心/Qin Xin (DOR: 2018)

@@potatohorse8304 There is another programme is to increase genetic diversity of the captive Panda population. Currently Panda population started with tens of captive rescued Panda in the 90s, but as time passed more rescued Pandas increase the population but mainly female Pandas but very few male Pandas. After a few generations & due to lack of genetic diversity on the male side, there is a higher risk of inbreeding. Therefore in Spring 2018, wild born 草草/Cao Cao was released to the wild to mate with wild Panda. She later gave birth to mixed sex twin. The male cub is 和和/He He. In Spring 2019, 草草/Cao Cao & another wild born female Panda 乔乔/Qiao Qiao were released to the wild to mate with wild Pandas. The result were both 草草/Cao Cao & 乔乔/Qiao Qiao gave birth to a set of male twins. This programme will increase the genetic diversity of the captive Panda population.

@@garymoh4828 omg thank you for taking the time to give me a brief summary of how far along these efforts have come! It's incredible and truly moves me to tears because I appreciate it so much, well I've been on a pandathon these past few hours jumping from one documentary to another but they were clips from as far back as 10 yrs ago and most recent one I came across was 2017, so your updated information has really helped to educate and wrapped up what I have learned so far in a very nice way, so I'm very grateful for your sincerity in sharing what you know with me :)

I’m surprised at how loud the baby when it’s first born. Usually baby animals are quiet so they aren’t eaten by predators
@weiqiongliu7634 жыл бұрын
Loud voice can help their mom to notice them in the wild, after all panda baby is super tiny compared with their mom. In fact, female pandas have 50% chance to give birth to twins, and due to the limited resource and energy, panda mom usually choose the bigger and healthier one to raise, which means abandon the other. So, the louder they can cry, the bigger chance to be chosen by mom cuz they are trying to prove they are strong and healthy.

Thanks to people and the government's efforts, giant pandas are now degraded from "endangered" to "vulnerable" species. Someone has even shot videos encountering wild pandas along roads in Sichuan. Cute is power

Fun fact about pandas I read in my panda book: pandas need to sleep 18 hours and about six hours of eating! Pandas can’t hear or see when born after two months they see and hear for the first time, most of the time they have two baby’s but if they can’t feed two one usually how do I say this...doesn’t live. Many pandas live in Wolong nature reserve and if bamboo forest go away pandas go away to

it is also sad they don't name them for 6 months, that means they expect failure before then, and are too scared for the attachment of a name.
