6:57 I know how you feel. About a month ago I was in Osmaniye, a town near Adana. I came across with a vendor selling the drink - called meyan there - and didn't hesitate for a second to order a cup. I've heard of the drink for a long time, and don't know why but somehow I was expecting it to taste something like cola. First gulp, and I was just shocked at the repulsiveness of the taste - I find it impossible to describe but "a handful of mud" is a good start. However, I didn't want to waste it so I decided to consider it some kind of nasty medicine and send it down my stomach instead of the drain in one big slug to avoid the aftertaste effect (which proved to be futile). The next day, I was in Antakya (Hatay), and saw another vendor at the bazaar. I thought the recipe of the vendor of the previous day perhaps had something wrong - how could a drink with such a taste be that popular after all? So I decided to give it another go, and... yeap, it was hard to accept but the recipe of the previous day seemed not to deviate even a bit from what is apparently the favourite formula of the region. Since I don't give up that easily, I soldiered on. When back home, I bought the original product - liquorice - and brewed the drink myself. It turned out much more diluted than those of the vendors in southern Turkey - therefore much more drinkable. It still had that "earthy" taste but much less pronounced, and had a surprising tint of sweetness, without any kind of sugar added in. It's still very far from my favourite drink, though, and most of that bag of liquorice is still stored away somewhere.

As a Turkish living in Canada, life in Turkey is a whole different experience. For example. In Canada, If I go to a store and ask if they have something that they don't carry, The shop owner just says I don't have. And that's it. I keep asking like do you know who might sell it? Can you give me some advice? Do you not know other stores in the same industry as yours? So many questions. And I say f.u. and leave. If I walk into a store in Türkiye and ask for something and they don't have, the guy will come out of the store, walk me to the store that sells it, and will tell them to give me a good price because I am good person. Do you see the difference? İt is the difference between being human or a robot.
@ozlemdr6076
@ozlemdr6076 Жыл бұрын

As a Turkish, tourists are mistaken by drinking such sour things like pickle juice and şalgam alone. It is not like fruit juice or milkshake that can be enjoyed drinking alone because they taste weird 😅 you should drink them with fish, kebap or döner. Their job is to balance the taste of meat fat. Drinking them alone is as logical as eating ketchup alone without fries. 🤣 it is not about you, i saw this on almost every tourists’ videos and apparently they are informing each other on the wrong way. I just wanted to correct it. 💕

Is it easy to travel turkey with a camper van, especially driving in crowded city centers an find parking spaces with a van? Thank you very much!
