Ok, watched the rest. I remember visiting the Elbsandsteingebirge with school when I was 17. But weirdly I don't remember a bridge at all. It's beautiful! How did you guys get back when you took a 5-hour-hike to get there?
@louibeans

I have a favorite camping ground but it's in southern Switzerland right on the shore of Lago Maggiore :) Unfortunately it was sold about 8 years ago and we've never been since, as they changed the whole camping ground and nothing is like we remember it. Felt like losing a home to me.
@WildWeRoam
@WildWeRoam 8 жыл бұрын
aw svenja thank you for all the comments!! so cool that you've been to Elbsandsteingebirge too - maybe you didn't go over to the look out point when you visited? honestly when we got up there we didn't even realize that we were on the bridge at first, so maybe that happened to you too! As for Lago Maggiore - I just googled it and it looks insanely beautiful. I'm going to add it to our travel list for when we get our van next year and maybe we can find another good spot :) Sorry to hear about the one that you used to visit. Such a bummer when things like that happen.

Plant Based Traveler Maybe I just don't remember it properly, I mean it was almost ten years ago :) Tessin is like a second home to me since we went every single summer when I was little, for 10 years. Sometimes twice a year. I know the area pretty well. Last time I was there was 2011 and I plan on returning there next year :) If you go, make sure to visit my favorite spots, some of the most beautiful places I've ever been to: - promenade of Ascona - Ponte dei Salti, Lavertezzo (google it!!!) - Vale Versasca - Versasca Dam (where part of James Bond movie Golden Eye was shot) - Isola Bella - The Lorcarno market I know countless other locations there but not all by name, some I just know where to go :) Like hidden hiking paths and stuff.

I really enjoy your youtube channel. It reminds me a lot of the traveling moments with my girlfriend. But I laughed so much about the corn scene. Almost every corn field in Germany is for the animal food production (especially for pigs). It's not the same sort of corn you eat as human ;) That's why it doesn't taste. But when we have been kids we ate it too :)
@WildWeRoam
@WildWeRoam 8 жыл бұрын
Ah so happy you found our channel! The corn scene still gets me when I rewatch it too - i was SOOO sure that I was going to be able to eat it, but it was SO hard. Definitely not meant for humans hahah :) thanks for the insight about it being feed for animals.

this was amazing :)))! all the vivid details from the photos emerging with the video makes me feel as though i was there - love how positive you were about the corn, Dana! i love finding little things like that when exploring + wandering and bringing some kind of token of remembrance back home, even if it's just one meal ^_^ kind of extends the adventure + feeling of it, just a little bit longer!

Thanks so much for watching! It really was such a beautiful camping trip, can't wait to get back into the woods again ; ) That corn was funny--I really really thought it was going to be edible because someone else had grabbed it before and it looked so so good but I guess some kinds of corn are just for animals or something? Hope your having a good week!

@WildWeRoam
@WildWeRoam 8 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks so much for watching and commenting! We stayed at a campsite called "Camping & Pension Ostrauer Mühle" which was really nice and had showers, bathrooms, a kitchen, laundry and all sorts of other stuff. We've read that wild camping is illegal in Germany so this didn't seem like the best trip to test out that law! Especially since its a very popular hiking destination so theres not actually all that much wilderness where you'd be able to find a spot to secretly camp! Our tent is a marmot 3p Thor which we got primarily because its super strong, and it can be used in the winter and in big storms, so this way we can do some winter camping this winter, and hopefully we won't have to buy another tent for a very very long time! It's not a very light tent--the really light tents are super expensive and more fragile--but we really really love it because its the perfect size for 2 people and big enough for 3 if you need another spot for a friend or brother ; )

I love the overlaying editing technique you guys used in this vid! I also love how you used a real paper map, was it hard to follow? Did you use a compass? My favorite camping spot would probably be this one campsite in Shenandoah in Virginia. I was there once 6 years ago when I was 14, but we camped at an RV site with a convenience store in the center of camp. Next time, I'd rather go to the Old Rag mountain, more inland, faaar away from civilization!! :D

One of my best friends when to UVA and then worked at UVA hospital for a few years after graduation and she spent a ton of time exploring Shenandoah and the Blue Ridge Mountains and I always adored her photos. Definitely a spot I'd love to visit one day :) Thanks so much for watching this week Mila! We actually didn't have too much of a hard time using the map - the red blazes on the trail helped a lot and even with a few little detours here and there we were able to find our way no problem without a compass.

Very nice skin tones and overall color you have for the video, man! For the post processing, im not sure if you used some kind of LUT or some preset, but, at leas what picture profile did you shoot with on your Canon 5Dmk3?
@WildWeRoam
@WildWeRoam 8 жыл бұрын
hey elad - here's a little breakdown of our workflow: we shoot RAW files using magic lantern raw hack, then those files get converted to Cinema DNG sequences using the RAWMagic converter (25 dollars in the app store) then they get imported into Davinci Resolve Lite (free online) and then we color grade them by making them flat and then apply Hunter's Alexa LUT, then they get exported as DNxHD files in the highest possible quality level and then we edit those in Avid MC where they are the preferred compressed video format. Once the edit is done and the video is on KZbin I delete the Cinema DNG sequences and the RAW files because we can't afford the amount of harddrive space keeping both those would entail--it's usually about 800GB per video, but once that's all deleted the DNxHD files are actually pretty small so its always less than 100GB per video, sometimes only like 20-30. So yeah, that's the workflow as of now, hope that helps a little!
@eladbari
@eladbari 8 жыл бұрын
Plant Based Traveler Wow, thanks for sharing your process. That's very interesting! I didnt know you were going through such a thorough workflow to make these videos. They all look great! Couple of things: 1. I'm a PC user, so I cant have that RAWMagic converter. I'll have to find a Windows alternative to extracting these RAW ML files. 2. I'm still sticking to Premiere+AE. Never dove into Davinci. It just seemed so complex, and especially- it's gets you out of the Adobe workflow, so I thought it was a hassle. Maybe im wrong? I'd have to see for myself.. 3. Regarding encoding. I need to re-render some normal video files from a 5D3 [not RAW]. Is DNxHD the way to go and it'll re-render them without losing quality? Is it a friendly codec to edit with? Or is it too heavy on the system? I hope you dont upload 20GB of DNxHD to youtube. Dont you render a final version of H.264? 4. I've downloaded Hunter's Alexa LUT [beta] from here: vimeo.com/67970827 I tried it on a RAW still I had and the image turned Super saturated and super bright. very unnatural look. So you say that for all of your RAW footage- you underexpose+make it flat before applying the LUT? Seems like you gotta do a lot of adjustments to use this LUT. but it really looks good at the end. especially skintones.
@WildWeRoam
@WildWeRoam 8 жыл бұрын
Hi! Lou here, so Davinci isn't really a hassle for me because all I do is import the DNG's by dragging and dropping, then I make a sequence from those clips, switch them all to BMD which makes them flat, then you put the LUT on and can export them out as individual clips in whatever format you want--we just use DNxHD because its amazing for avid and cuts the file size way way down without a visible loss in quality but if your not using avid then maybe try a different codec that's meant for your editing system. If the colors look oversaturated its probably because you didn't shoot flat--make a profile in the camera and drag all the options down (pretty sure theres some tutorials on flat profile settings) or the other problem could be that you didn't flatten the clips in the edit before applying the lut--that's why I use davinci, because its free and all you do is click a button, apply to all, and then throw the LUT on. Hope that helps!
@eladbari
@eladbari 8 жыл бұрын
Plant Based Traveler Thanks for your kind reply, Lou :] 1. So, regarding shooting flat, I thought you were using some kind of picture style for Canon. You know, like Cinestyle or something? Youre not using any custom ones? You just shoot, let's say, on Neutral picture style that you completely desaturated in camera? 2. Regarding codec, I will check and see how DNxHD will work on my Premiere timeline. I still feel like it's relatively a massive codec size. I remember creating 30sec videos with it at work, and they were like 1-3GB. That's a lot when you work with, say, 1 hour of footage! You practically wanna tell me you fill up your entire SSD hard drive for each project you work on?

I've never been camping, and I don't think I ever will :) I'm too worried about the sounds I don't recognise. I think I have an issue being in an environment I can't control. Having said that, I have been 'glamping' (Glamour Camping). Thats when you're on a camp site in nature, but you've got a modern hut with wifi and jacuzzi :) And That corn was probably past-ripe and was now getting hard/dry. Corn at that stage is usually ground up into powder form to make bread, tacos, corn meal, etc.

Corn is edible raw - if it's ripe. Peel back the husk a little and press your nail into a kernel. If the juice is milky, it's ripe. Of course, there's still a difference between sweet corn, pop corn and what's used for flour.
