A reaction to #1. From a swede. I think Finns should be very proud of themselves! They are a people of a hard working, honest kind. They keep their promises and stand up to what they think is right. They have had many sacrifices during the years (1809-1945), but they have endured. Tough, reliable people! Much appreciated by us Swedes!

Not to mention that so traumatized were the Swedes that ever since losing the region to the Russians in 1809, they have cowered their way out of every single war.

To #2: Earlier in the Finnish schools the language classes were like translating text word by word, not using a foreign language practically. You had to translate sentences while other students and the teacher were listening. And if you made a mistake, the teacher interrupted you immediately and corrected the error. That's the reason why Finns think that their English sucks. We are just taught to be perfect translators and to be afraid of mistakes that nobody cares about. My Russian friend said in early 90's: (read in strong Russian accent) "When I speak English, I make many mistakes, but I don't care!" Then I got "enlightened" and realized that the point is to be understood, not the perfect grammar.

Another Texan in Finland here! Just visiting (for the third time) and hoping to move to this awesome country soon. The first time I came here I was amazed by how much I had in common with the Finns. Love of silence? Check. Love of sauna? Check. Love of sausage and beer? Check. And those all those Moomin mugs? Hell yes. I never wanted to leave and will be sad to go back to the States. Keep up the great vids!

Finnish band "Nightwish" they are great. My favorite vocalist is Floor Jansen, she is Dutch, BUT, the band is Finnish. Great music, listen to Floor Jansen with Nightwish Live at Wacken singing "phantom of the opera" "The pit and the pendulum" "Ever dream" just about ANYTHING. They've had 3 vocalists all together, my fave is Floor Jansen, BUT many prefer their first vocalist Tarja Turenen or something similar to that. They have these songs in videos on here, KZbin. Very great performances.

@@Alexandros.Mograine Sweden is a wonderful country, and I don't think it "has become" anything that isn't visible everywhere else in the world. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else, but all the "wrongs" with this country is due to the fact that modern society values economic progress over human lives. This is a global problem, visible exactly everywhere.

Actually most Finns find the bucket queuers funny too. But there is a significant minority who spare no effort to save a little. That was more common a few decades ago, because after the wars there was a rather serious shortage of many things.

The bucket queues exploded when some store openings decided to use the bucket as kind of lottery ticket. So everybody else gets a bucket but one lucky customer gets a bucket with 1000 euros. And if you wait in queue and you're lucky, you win that prize. And if you're unlucky, you still get a free bucket!

Did you know that adults get paid by going school? It's 9€ (10$) per day. Crazy as it might sound it's true. I am in college even when I am turning 40 years old soon. We have nice opportunities to learn new profession. Sauna is great! Even small apartments often has sauna. I am not so keen to go to the public sauna. In those there is always some random guy who puts so much water on to the kiuas (heating device) that everyone is suffering from extreme heat XD And because we are Finns no one says anything. We just suffer silently :D

In their small community my grandparents had the neighborhood sauna. My earliest memory is being in the sauna with my grandmother. Saturday night was the big night, and after a sauna folks would gather in my grandmother's kitchen to relax. It was nothing for someone to sit there for thirty minutes or more and never say a word. I was very talkative as a kid and was known as having the "gift of gab". I think they thought it was cute, I guess.

Sauna - is bath. And of course the bonus is the relaxation. And for your american fellow specimens of our species you can explain why being naked in sauna is not that sexual though we are naked. Like people bathing and showering tend to :) I mean just tell them about the Fahrenheits normally involved. When you're sweating, huffing and puffing in the heat you don't think that others are naked next to you - you're trying to handle the heat, though you might feel like your skin is burning soon - but it's not: you're not in sunlight. And it's not like with a hot bath, there you may burn yourself. In saua it's steam, and not coming straight from the stove like from a steam engine. It spread all over the sauna room, and so you swea in the hot steam. Sweat your dirt off deep within the skin. And then you wash it off - and then your skin is soft and moist, like a baby's skin again - and you've been deeply cleaned!

"The important thing is that Sweden lost"? Swedes feel the same way about Finland. Except if the Finns are competing against any other country than Sweden, like Russia, or USA, or Canada... Finns and Swedes share many attributes. Like when you go sitt in the sauna and someone else comes in, and they say "Hi." First thing in your head is "Oh, great. We got a Talker..." I feel like our insecurity might come from not only general humbleness but also from school. English is taught to everyone since 3rd grade (might be possible to start earlier if you go to international school or something, idk I don't have experience with that) and the mentality is always that only perfect is good enough and it literally felt like grammar was taught a lot more in English than in Finnish classes and I remember my first Finnish class in high school the teacher said that we`re not going to spend time learning grammar because it`s not that crucial to know all that. In English, never. So the "you have to be grammatically perfect, pronounce everything perfectly and have a huge ass vocabulary to ever be able to speak English" mentality is strong in us. Fun fact, no one you'll ever speak English to, except your English teacher, gives a crap about your grammar or vocabulary as long as they are kind of able to understand what you're trying to say. Not like knowing that always helps much but it might and according to my experience it`s still the truth, helpful or not. You would be amazed to know how much time I spent googling words and phrases to make sure I spelled and worded everything correctly and I'm still pretty sure I didn't and none of this makes any sense.

I especially loved how you've noticed that we love our (exceptionally beautiful) homeland of ours, even though we don't brag about it. (Except that I just bragged a little bit...) I guess that I'm quite interested to know what foreigners think of us. Why else would I be so interested what you think of us? 😉😆 But this whole queing in line for a free plastic bucket thing is weird to me. I know that us Finns do that but I just don't get why. It's not like plastic buckets would be rare or overly expensive here. You can buy plastic buckets of basically any color you want anywhere for 2€ or less... so why wait in line for several hours just to get one free of charge❓❔❓ I do think that I myself am kinda weird Finn too, because I don't want Sweden to lose. Not even in ice hockey. Of course I reaaallly want Finland to win when we are playing against Sweden, but if we have lost already, I always hope Sweden to win. I mean that if they lose playing against some other country, I feel like I lost too. Oh, and English is not my native language, so I'm so sorry for all my mistakes! 😉😅 Please forgive me and please correct me, because that's how I learn. 😙❤ Hyvä Raakkeli! 😃😄👌

As a Finn living in Finland who enjoys sauna, I really doubt that sauna is a "sacred" place to most people today, nor is it especially a place where one would "open up" on feelings. It is just a nice experience among others, a part of relaxing and cleaning up. Sometimes with friends, sometimes just by yourself. And I think it is also important to say that if someone is going to a sauna for the first time, just take it as you feel, do NOT believe any myths or stories about how you should behave or "perform", it is for your pleasure, not a ritual, and if at any point you feel uncomfortable, just get out and have a shower (or whatever) :)

Well, as an Finn I want to be sure that I am really Finn and did your famous test! And yep, it seems that I am a Finn but free buckets is not my thing...I am not sure but I believe it is not question of free buckets, my opinion is that it is more like social happening. After all, what possible could be better way to spend some time than with some fellow citizens and be on line for free buckets and discus with others how much berries or mushrooms you and they can pick and pack to free bucket for to eat on winter time? On same line you can have tips concerning good picking places on forests and also some new info how to make cake new way from berries... Also must confess that Ice hockey is not game to my taste...But sure it is when Finland wins world championship! Then I will join with those peoples on fountain pool.

You are spot on with that "sweden lost". There is not many things what bring us more joy than sweden lose, especially in icehockey. But every sport event will be the same. It not even matters how our team does if sweden lose. Its all good if that happens.

I can see some Finish qualities in myself (American) like being quiet and not being comfortable with small talk and NOT being all "emotional" with even close friends UNLESS I have had a bit to drink (booze) BUT, the whole sweating naked among strangers, I can't imagine doing that. Being an American, I am fat, I KNOW not all Americans are fat, BUT, I am. I however am NOT a big fan of being in the heat, and humid heat is even worse in MY opinion. I have however gone topless at a US "nudist resort" in Florida, which was quite far from MY hometown, so, nobody there knew me and I would not be likely to see them EVER again. I just could NOT let it ALL hang out. I have seen a bunch of Swedish bicyclists (mostly or all were men) riding their bikes nude on KZbin before. I GUESS IF you ARE going to go nude in public often, it WOULD make you more likely to be slimmer. I do kinda wonder what other nations think of the USA, I do think they MUST wonder NOW, just what the hell is wrong with us that we have elected such a "horrible jackass" and many in the US still support him. He is a giant boil on the ass of every GOOD American that KNOWS we need REAL CHANGE, as in getting his oily orange carcass out of the White House, I am just wondering IF the one that seems to be likely to run against him (Joe Biden) will be much better, there are a good number of OTHER people running on the Democrat side, BUT, it seems that Joe Biden has the money to back up his campaign and the others are NOT going to have a chance in hell at being the ones to run vs Trump, I like at least 3 others besides Biden, BUT, they need more money to even be considered. Biden has refused to say that he no longer think s the way he once did many years ago about women working outside of the home and an issue about helping Blacks and other minorities get to the voting booths to vote. He was given the chance to say that he "no longer holds those points of view" but, he refused to say that he no longer holds those points of view. Most families now in the US are households where women are the chief breadwinner. Biden is living in the olden days back when dad's and husbands stuck around and provided for their families, these days even IF dad's still around, it takes 2 incomes to pay the bills and even then, it is hard. IF I hadn't seen that part of the debates where Biden outright hadn't said that he no longer believes like he once did about minority voters and women working, I'd have never believed it. I am usually quiet and shy, BUT, I have been drinking tonight, so I have been posting many comments to "Wildwoods" videos about America and many bad things. I DO LOVE my country, I am happy where I live, BUT, we NEED to get rid of the sorry excuse for a President we have now, and I hope we don't have another President that is just going to coast along and NOT improve things, and I think that Biden isn't going to do much IF he is elected. He seems to NOT really have any REAL plans to speak of, and it seems like he is "already on his way into being the one that will be vs Trump. Many other GOOD and eager to try and change things people will surely NOT even be given a chance. Biden is leading in the polls or the percentages that they show as to who is in the lead and it seems to all come down to the almighty dollar, and THAT sucks big time. IF BIden expects for women to stay home and raise babies, he damn well BETTER make the men (those thaty are sticking around) earn much MORE money, and what about the single mothers? I can't tell you what Biden's plan are for them. Biden is always saying stuff about his buddy and one time President Obama, BUT, it seems he had been a racist at one time OR he was NOT strong enough to say anything against racists he worked with years ago. I GUESS, IF HE HAD, he'd have NO job. BUT, he refused to say that he "no longer held those same views that he once had" and THAT shows me that he is a bigot at heart, maybe THAT is why he KEEPS mentioning Obama, he is trying to seem NOT racist by mentioning Obama, BUT, he must still be racist, IF he will NOT say that he thinks differently NOW.

Sauna is just about the best thing there is in Finland. I knew a couple that had three of them, one electric, one smoke sauna and one with wood stove. I do not fit these stereotypes well, but still, no matter what is the competition, it is a cause of celebration when Sweden loses it. Finns are totally nutty about Eurovision song contest, where Finland has been a winner only once, but after the inevitable Finnish defeat is secured, the next thing is to wait for Sweden to be defeated. For some odd reason, there are voters that support Sweden in Finland, but they have to be Swedish tourists.
