I also built the Wilesko 405 tractor kit. It was great quality and good instructions and took me 16hours to build. A younger set of hands would cut the time down I'm sure. It is a nice running tractor. Very enjoyable to build! I so enjoy and welcome Fred's comments. It was a great experience !

A great first run. It appears to have loads of power. I was thinking it may pull a fair bit of weight. Possibly another video demonstration. Perhaps some rubber bands around the rear tires would give it more gripping and pulling power. Perhaps a rubber or cork bushing might quiet down that flywheel rattle. Thanks for sharing Fred. All is well here. All the best Fred.
@CB-RADIO-UK5 жыл бұрын
Cheers Andy. You can get rubber tyres for the wheels as they scratch easy. The cork bushing would be good although with those spring caps i cannot now take the wheels off.

Hi Fred,. I also built the Wilesco D415 kit and find its a high quality kit. I enjoyed following your video's and so enjoy our in common hobby. We seemed to be both a little fussy about doing a quality build. I so enjoyed your video. Thank you!

Nice touch the glass tank window. Think the main drive cogged wheel should have been made better ( wider)

Fred look on the cogs side of the engine there is a brass cup shape behind the top brass cogs this rattles about so I have super glued mine

De...ionised water will in time rot your solder joins in side your boiler, you must change to de stilled water or clean de stilled rain water, i hope this helps

Great video :) Slight trick to filling these with canopy you can just put the metal funnel in to the top of the red plastic funnel, lets you pour the water down that (if that makes any sense lol)

Yeah perfect sense. LOL never even thought of that cheers.

Hi I would like to tell you what a good job you did a assembling that steam engine 👍👍👍👍👍 And the rattling noises no need to be concerned they are perfectly normal. I have the ready to run version of that tractor and it makes the same noise . To be honest I don't mind the noises I kind of like them. But I certainly understand how it could bother people. Anyway you did an awesome job putting it together it ran and performed great. Thank you for posting the video.

Thanks Bill. I really enjoyed the build esp as this was the first traction engine i had constructed. I shall be looking for further builds in the summer of 2020.
@anythingoldmechanical3 жыл бұрын
The intermediate drive cog on these always seem to run off centre, and are naturally very noisy as a result of this. I thing that this is a superb little traction engine, but can be considerably improved, if it were painted the correct colours! Mamod Wheels on the rear also add amazing realism, and you can press off the original Wilesco rims, and with a bit of tin wrapped round the Mamod wheel to sleeve it, the Wilesco rimes can then be pressed on, retaining the original diameter.
@CB-RADIO-UK3 жыл бұрын
Thanks gary. Yes i think with some modding this engine could be improved

fred if you go on ebay you can get them caps for your front wheels. they call them crome spring caps. (12 for £5) hope that helps you

Great video! I've got the steamroller equivalent! Ever tried to actuate any machine tools or adjunct accessories with the flywheel belt drive? I think it's interesting watching a traction engine do work while stationary.😄

Did you ever get the rattle/vibration sorted out. I did read in another video that the gear wasn't running true. I'm hoping to get the showmans engine and wondering now whether to get the prebuilt one instead of the kit.

No i left it in the end. A few said theirs were the same. I think i could have improved it. I enjoyed the build. The best part.

hi fred, would you recommend this? looking at either getting this or a wilesco steam roller?
@CB-RADIO-UK3 жыл бұрын
Hi. Its a nice kit to build. Nothing too tricky if you take your time. The roller is the same model other than the front axel so depends which design you prefer

Don't mind me asking but. How did you get the piston to not bind up? I recently got one of these and the piston keeps on binding up
@UK-CB-RADIO4 жыл бұрын
Just used the normal steam oil around the piston before a run and mines fine.
@antontalbot91484 жыл бұрын
You should never run a steam engine in deionized water. De-ionozed water will corrode the zinc from the brass componants, such as the brass boiler...... Tap water would be better! You should use distilled water to avoid build up of limescale
@kengkitcher66574 жыл бұрын
Quite correct about the use of the de-ionized water. If you suffer with furring of your kettle (due to lime-scale) do NOT use water from the tap, but simply boil water and when its cooled use this instead. The chemists amongst us would know that this is simply distilled water.

Where can I get this model from
@UK-CB-RADIO2 жыл бұрын
Look on Ebay. If your UK you can order direct from Germany which is normally cheaper.
