Like the Valdez vs Berchelt fight. Back then most people thought Gomez was too small for LaPorte because of what happened to Gomez when he moved up to fight Sanchez. But Gomez's skills proved to be the difference.

Sanchez liked it when his opponent tried to back him up, because it gave his counterpunching skills a chance to shine. When Sanchez had an opponent who stayed back on him, he had a much tougher go of it - like in the Castillo, Ford, & Azumah fights to name three..

@@kufujitsu exactly! That impetus Nelson showed to KO Sánchez compensated for the short time notice many allege. Never again I saw Nelson force a fight 99.9%. And If he lasted just seconds before the end of the 15th round, vs Sánchez no less, he was in shape!!!!

Not with ease at all. Laporte was very young still went 15 rounds, Gomez took fight short notice less than a month to train , got careless and caught early , it was a war for 8 rounds it lasted.
