I'm really struck by how unique this anthem is. First, you're singing not as an abstract citizen but as an actual person, as if directly quoting William of Orange, and that points to the sheer importance placed upon this person in this country's history. Second, you cite William's "loyalty to the King of Spain." It's very rare for the anthem of a country to mention the name of another, let alone hint at loyalty to that country so, to make sense of the words, you're consequentially immersed in the very particular history in your country.

Well in translation something went wrong as well, "ben ik van Duitsen bloed" actually means "I am of German blood" which is a complicated story to tell, but the short version: our royals are mixed with German...

The anthem is sung from the perspective of our founding father, prince William of Orange. He was a Germanic prince that oversaw the Spanish colony of the lowlands in the name of the Spanish king Filippe II. Prince William eventually became disillusioned with the king of Spain after he tried centralizing the power of his kingdom to himself and Madrid. Prince William also took objection to the horrific murders of protestants and all who where deemed not Catholic enough by the Spanish inquisitors. These murders where something the Spanish king supported. It is this combination of factors that made him, alongside other nobles, revolt. Leading the our 80 year war of independence against Spain. So that is why the song states that he (prince Wiliam of Orange) has always loyally served Spain. Its written from his perspective :)

And in the netherlands 500-600 years ago they were speaking "Niederdeutsch" = "Nederduytsch" = a german dialect => nederduits => then modern "dutch" (many english, french, spanish and other words and they also changed the grammatica 100 years ago and so on, so that their language nowdays sounds like a "broken german", so we germans needs a translator nowdays to understand them

In my region of the Netherlands we speak low German Saxon with heavily Dutch influence I was speaking to a Austrian and he understood 50 percent of the stuff that I said When i was talking to a Amsterdamer he could barely understand me I can give you some examples of my dialect For example kase means cheese in german and in my dialect

It's because at the time the anthem was created, the Netherlands was fighting the 80 Years war against Spain, and the Dutch king decided to pay respect by declaring his loyalty the Spanish king.

@@hollaxow3331 You are right. Since it is the official translation I take away the downvote from this video. But I think that it should go to the writer of this official english version instead. I think, that sometimes a singable translation is not always necessary and in this case it is not even achieved perfectly, since one has to stress words in a peculiar manner sometimes (prepositions or “to the“ in the first verse for example).
