@@liamplayle495 sadly that's just no longer true (at least in Wellington). I have such awesome memories of heading off to Subnine and Studio 9 at 11 pm, walking out eight hours later after an awesome night of D&B, grabbing a hearty breakfast and coffee at one of the local cafes and then congregating with twenty or thirty other jaded (but ecstatic!) party-goers and spending the rest of day at one of the awesome warehouse flats nearby for beers, smoke and good vibes. Even before our flat was disbanded in 2004, crappy apartments (with little to no sound or thermal insulation) were cropping up all around us, and into them moved people with no appreciation of inner-city living (as it was at the time) and zero tolerance for the lifestyle (and parties) of the people who already lived there. Things have steadily gone down-hill since then. All the old warehouse flats are gone. The kowtowing council has mandated 3 am closing for all venues (no exceptions A.F.A.I.K), so all the nightclubs are gone, good e's are either prohibitively expensive or just impossible to find (what would be the point anyway), and the dance music scene is utterly decimated. Now the typical Wellingtonian's idea of a good night out is to cram into one of the shitty bars in Courtenay Place, to drink overpriced alcohol surrounded by dickheads yelling at each other over the shitty commercial music, before being kicked out at 3 am and hoping that you don't get puked on or punched on the way home. I've tried to explain to the youngin's what it was like to be in a club at 5 am with DJ Marky or some other international act still playing, surrounded by hundreds of sweaty, happy people who are totally in the moment just like you (on exactly the same buzz as you), and they are utterly uncomprehending. It's fucking tragic that something so great is now just a memory for the lucky few who lived it.

Paul Dorman Clearly you don’t get around enough anymore but the DnB scene in New Zealand is huge. I’m a Welly local and if not for COVID this year we had some of the biggest names visiting our shore this year. DnB in Welly is thriving. While it might not quite live up to your standard of the old days the new generation are carrying it on in a new way for sure. While i agree on the sentiment for Courtenay Place, you’re clearly not visiting the right spots.
