No, George, the air shouldn't go straight forward. This has been independently confirmed by a number of different brass teachers and researchers. And there's NO NEED TO SHOUT. Please take off your caps lock when commenting.

Is it possible for me to send a video for analysis?

I need some help and i think you're the guy that can give me some advice. I'm a highschool trumpet player, and while i am fairly good at my instrument, i've found that what i lack is a nice, warm tone. The sound coming from my horn is..hard to describe. Its 'off'. Sounding a little pinched, and kind of robotic. Could you tell me something i can do or what you may think the problem is that is keeping me from a nice tone?

I'm a very old beginner & compulsive Googler. I found the PETE embouchure trainer surprisingly effective in development of more tone control than I had and some improvement on still very small pitch range. There are also the Pencil Exercises where you hold the pencil with just your lips, not your teeth. I anticipate continuing buzzing a mouthpiece at Carltune, a free tuner phone app that I like. Other phone apps for sight reading, ear training, rhythm I find useful as well. And there is also web pages & KZbin for Music Theory.

Is it possible to learn to vary which lip is the predominant one during play/practice? If you experience fatigue in the upper lip could you thus change the placement and let the lower lip do the work? Or perhaps play upper lip one day and the lower lip the next day in order to reduce the strain and achieve better recovery?

It's possible to change your mouthpiece placement around, but not advisable. It's probably much better to find the most efficient mouthpiece placement that fits your anatomy and stick with that for your entire range every day. Playing consistently the same way every time will make for more consistent playing technique and allow you to focus more on the music.

Yes, that's probably the way to go.

I am unsure whether I am upstream or downstream, and my emouchure is tighter than it should be.
