Sorry but you are also mistaken about singing. The vocal cords vibrate when air passes through them and it is the open and closed phase of the vibration that causes voicing. So they must touch each other. If there was no contact of the vocal cords there would be no sound. I am a Speech Pathologist and specialist voice therapist. So the lips are also making contact.. It amazes me that you can almost see a mucosal wave of the lips just like the vocal cords. :)

@valvetrom that may be true for singing, but the lips do touch for brass playing. Watch parts 1 and 2 to see this.

The lips should never touch each other, our voicebox closes only for a cough , if you sing its open

If the sensation that you're lips don't open and close help you play better, knock yourself out. I speak from personal observation and study of many brass embouchures using transparent mouthpieces over years, as well as looking closely at the research of others who have used similar methods, including this Lloyd Leno film. Take a few years to do your homework and if you can show that the expert consensus is wrong then go publish in a peer reviewed journal and spread the word. Good luck!
