I have had my whites for 6 or 7 years now. About 4 years in they started to squeek. I avoided wearing them because I felt like a clown. I tried all the at home remedies for this, but to no avail. I wrote to whites about it and they said send them in and we will fix them. I paid for one way shipping and they rebuilt my boots and sent them back at no charge. I love these boots. Great looking, super tough and great for being on your feet all day. Mine were somewhat custom they look more dressy than work boot but I used them as work and wear boots. They are not MP's, I dont think they had all these choices when I ordered mine. It can take a little while to get use to the "arch ease" arch support but it really makes it possible to work all day in them. I woodworked and did wearhouse jobs with them on. Recomend this brand whole heartedly.

I’ve always struggled with ready to wear work boots because of my unusually wide feet. About 6 years ago I had White’s, custom build me a pair of Smoke Jumpers. After a solid 3 week break in, (the boots broke me in not the other way around) they are by far the most comfortable boots I’ve ever owned. At $600 a pair and 6 years old and still going, they are much cheaper than destroying cheaper ready to wear boots every year. I have had to replace the soles once but the boots are still in excellent condition.

One correction is that the MP does not have their famous Arch Ease support, which is found in their BH, SJ, and SD. However, the MPs feel like slippers and Barrie last is super comfortable and easier to break in. I know someone who's had a pair of Peter Limmer & Sons boots since 1975 and has had them resoled ( still the complete original upper ) about 5 times in all those years. Eventually part of the boot is going to wear out and need replacing, and it has me wondering If they get to 70 years on them, how much of the original boot will really be left on them at that time ? Even if none of the original boot is left but some of the replacement leather had been there 40 years at this point can you say you've still got Peter Limmer boots on your feet. I would sure love to have a lifelong companion on my feet, but I'm not sure I can actually afford a pair that will last that long or what it it would cost to keep them going that long but the idea of it sure is nice.

@titohalford53064 жыл бұрын
Man, I remember my dad taking me there on our way to Acadia one time to get me fitted for a pair of Peter Limmer's boots. That pair of boots are still pretty much new 15 years later. In my experience once you pass the $250 any boot would last you 10+ years easily depending on what you are using them for. My boots, I pretty much just use them for walking/hiking and I don't see a way in which my Alden's or RW won't last 15 years. Heck if I use a pair of Timberlands for the activities I use my Indy's, I am pretty sure they would last the same amount. I don't see my Fracap lasting less than ten years while I only use them to take walks in the woods over the weekends. What I'm trying to tell you is that after a certain price point we are paying for craftmanship. We pay for the feeling of someone building something that feels only for us. You can buy a dinner table at a big box store that would last you the rest of your life, but somehow having someone build you a dinner table feels more personal. You feel more connected to that table, to grain in the wood etc. So that's what we pay for, not for longevity itself. Kicking shovels and pouring concrete a pair of Timberland's Pro would last you more than a pair Viberg Service Boots or even a pair of John Lofgren.

I have a regular office job (Software Engineer), I am looking to buy Red Wing Iron Rangers but after listening to all these videos that It is work boot and doesn't look good in an office (semi-casual) environment as it has Bulbous cap toe. So as an alternative I looked at Thursday’s Captain boot, it looks like the one which can be dress up in a semi-casual office but I don't like its quality as compared to IR. Any Suggestions?

Look at Allen Edmonds, buy them on sale or what they call Factory seconds (check their website), Sale or Factory second prices will be around $200 and you will get much better American made boots. BTW I am a Software Engineer too. I am moving to White's because I need some serious arch support.

I want to buy my son a pair of work boots he owns his own landscaping company and does a lot of yardwork and mowing as well as basic landscaping. I know that I should get a rough out type boot but what would you recommend? Ty

Have u used iron rangers as work boots?

I had a pair of MP boots that I eventually returned (after several warranty exchanges). For me, the quality didn't really match the asking price, and I was constantly astounded at some of the QC mishaps that made it past final inspection. I'd be more interested in White's actual work boots in the future; some of the sloppy workmanship that marred my MP boots would be far less problematic on a pair of boots intended to be thrashed hard. As it was, I felt the MP boots fell between two stools; neither rugged enough to be a true 'work boot', nor well enough finished to be a good 'casual boot'. As far as solidly made casual boots go, I'm a big fan of my Viberg's.

Check out the Oak Street Bootmakers Storm boots! Very similar in build for a little less and something a little different too!

How do you size these? I'm 10.5 in Iron rangers and 11 in Alden indy's...been hearing all kinds of things, like go down 1.5 sizes from nikes or just .5 from iron rangers. I'm an 11 in the Barrie last and these are based on the Barrie correct?

I have an idea, why not buy a pair of $350 Grant Stone Diesel boots. Tough, versatile and can be dressed up and down. And you can keep that remaining $250.00 in your pocket.

Why support China?
@jamesmosley86754 жыл бұрын
@@swankybubbles77 The owners of Grant Stone are Americans. They primarily use American made products to make their footwear.

@@jamesmosley8675 Yet they can’t find some Americans to stitch together their boots? And they still charge upwards of $300/pair. My question to them is why go to China if it’s not for pure profiteering?
@jamesmosley86754 жыл бұрын
@@swankybubbles77I'm only familiar with their story. One of the owner's father had a relationship with the factory in China. And many of workers were adept in making high quality footwear. I cannot tell you that their motivation was pure profit. I can tell you that they make very high end footwear at a reasonable price. So I would assume that they pass on some of what they save on to the consumer. BTW many the top American footwear manufacturers produce many of their shoes/boots in foreign countries.
@swankybubbles774 жыл бұрын
@@jamesmosley8675 which is why I don’t buy boots from them. People like us who can afford $300+ boots should make an effort to support American workers and not those companies who profit by having their items manufactured internationally. Especially given we do have the option to buy American on things like boots, which are of the highest quality in the world being manufactured here. China has an unfair trade advantage because of their totalitarian government which btw violates human rights of their own citizens and constantly intimidates their neighbors politically and militarily, rapes the ocean of resources, is the worlds biggest polluter, and constantly steals intellectual property from us and we sit here buying shit from them? Eff China. Eff Grant Stone

The way I wear boots, they’re not going to last forever its just going to happen. My good quality boots they might last me a year. Usually they only last through the winter. I’m hard on my shoes and I’m working a lot that’s a very funny claim though.

I have found that a pair of indestructable boots like Whites is deserving of indistructable laces. For me nylon and leather laces don't cut it.
