Will a 53 CJ3B Run?

On todays Video I try to start the old 53 CJ3B for the first time in probably 30 years. We also clean it up and get it ready for its turn to get work on, in the future.

Great collection! When you are trying to start an engine with a carburetor, OPEN THE THROTTLE. It doesn't do like modern engines with fuel injection. Your best price on starting fluid is O'Reilly carb and choke cleaner...the flammable kind. Typically less than three bucks.

Thanks for the suggestions. I cut the part of the video but I rigged up a way to keep the throttle open. Because I was by myself I couldn’t actuate the starter button, spraying more starter fluid in and throttle. I’ll have a video in the future about rebuilding the carb and gas tank. Thanks for watching.

A 1953 Willys Jeep would have been 6 volts not 12 volts. Your starter, lights, and coil are made for 6 volts. This is also why the starter turns over so fast. Use an external fuel tank

@warrenpinney Thanks for your concern but the jeep was converted over to 12v by my grandfather years ago. The starter in actuality is turning over the engine pretty slowly. Fuel tank wise we’re gonna be cleaning out the original. I’ll have a video of that in the future.
