I have an '08 Honda Ruckus, stock GET 49cc, with aftermarket exhaust and carb, and extensive jet tuning. I am firmly convinced that there are more gains to be had from transmission mods than from basic engine mods. A good variator (I am currently running a Malossi) can make a big difference. Simply changing variator weights makes a huge difference, even with the stock variator. Example, my Ruckus came with 7g weights and was very sluggish, I swapped to 5.5g and greatly improved acceleration and top speed. I have an NCY CDI, which supposedly advances timing 2 degrees, but the only difference I can really tell is that it eliminated the rev limiter.

Best way to see if it actually makes a difference is to use a timing light. All that a "performance" CDI can do to affect anything is have a different ignition timing curve, or a higher/deleted rev limiter. Run the bike with stock CDI, check ignition timing thru the rev range with a timing gun and marks on the fan/flywheel, then repeat for the aftermarket one. If the new CDI has more advanced timing (advanced as in it sparks earlier) then it should make more power and feel more responsive. Too advanced obv and you risk knocking. Sometimes you will need to use higher octane but you probably use high octane on a big bore anyway.

Seeing you easy one-kick the Zuma made me envious. I just bought a Yamaha Razz off marketplace...I have an Elite and a Vino, but I didn't know the deal with the Razz. Single speed transmission without variator, and the most finicky little engine I've ever dealt with. I can barely walk because I've kicked the thing over so many times. I got it without the factory airbox, and apparently these things are nearly impossible to get right without that. As far as your CDI goes: if the spark is happening at the exact right time, it's going to burn the fuel more efficiently, meaning you need less fuel. OR the new advance curve is wrong for your setup, and the spark isn't happening at the right time(for that 75% throttle rpm point), meaning you can't get a complete burn, leaving some fuel left over and causing the engine to load up and break up. Either way it seems you fixed it with tuning 👍

Have you pressure checked it? Maybe your pilot jet is too small?
@middlesiderrider Жыл бұрын
@@Jpmcfly209 haven't pressure checked. It doesn't smoke excessively so I think the trans side crank seal is fine, and I sprayed carb cleaner on the magneto side seal with no change in rpm. Also replaced reed block gasket(previous owner glued it on with gray RTV and blocked the reeds). Pilot jet is probably too small(it's the stock 46). I have a Uni foam filter, and I made an airbox which helped everywhere but starting. It's way harder to start when it's cold outside which obviously points to it being lean down low, but normally the choke will take care of that. The choke definitely works, but it's still hard to start. I'm so broke right now I can't afford a pilot jet haha

when your engine sputters when you give it half throttle it is because it is getting too much petrol and therefore the needle has to be moved down further, otherwise you have to aim the nozzle but in most cases it just helps to move the needle down further 👍 if you ride in hot weather it should have less gas than if you ride in cold weather 🙂 this is also why an engine that runs in cold weather makes more hp than if it runs in warm weather. however, it will of course also use more petrol in cold weather.. on a turbo motor you can really see a difference on a dyno if you measure hp in 35c° compared to 0c° 👍 It's funny that the scooter in the US is called a Yamaha Zuma And here in Denmark it's called a Yamaha booster 😅 in Denmark it's a really popular scooter model people here love to tune them a lot and many of them gets over 25hp out on the engine 🔥
@albertmaneveld9731 Жыл бұрын
Here in South Africa it's called a Yamaha BWS, don't ask me what it stands for.. They sell for a lot of money, like 5 times the price of the average 2nd hand gy6 150cc. Quite rare to see one. I have a Yamaha Cygnus RS 125cc 4stroke and I think it's ts probably better..
@Si-jk4iy Жыл бұрын
@@albertmaneveld9731 BWS stands for Big Wheel Scooter, a throwback to mopeds that used to run bicycle style wheels, both smaller and much skinnier than these wheels. This model is known as BWS, Zuma, pre-bug Zuma and MBK Booster or Stunt in different markets throughout the world. So be carefully what parts you buy, as definition comes primarily from running either Vertical oriented Cylinder (earlier - more tunable) to Horizontal Cylinder (later - known as Bug Eye in US) which is generally less popular with the tuning crowd. Happy Scooting.....
@elodiie543011 ай бұрын
I would rather say that the scooter needs a change of the idle jet rather than an adjustment at the needle level but this can also come from the needle yes , it must be checked. Otherwise Yamaha = BWS, MBK = Booster (also known as Booster spirit / spirit)

that CDI unit allows for stronger voltage/current delivery upto 20,000 rpm, the reason you felt that bogging at low/mid range was rpm related the engine is being held back due to the CDI and the pipe. with a full on race pipe that can allow you to have a higher rpm something like 14,000 rpm you would feel a lot more difference, another thing is you really need a gear up kit to let that pipe take full effect , once that pipe really kicks in around 12krpm and byond then you would feel it. also these CDI's do not have an rpm limiter ;) , so gear up kit and a more pokey pipe would unleash a lot more rpm and a huge difference in speed and power.

So would the new cdi regulate spark better? i wonder if you need to adjust the fuel air ratio then also.
@freakyfreerider Жыл бұрын
CDI stands for capacitor discharge ignition. A performance CDI will use an optimised capacitor value to enhance the spark generated and more accurately ignite at the correct time. Higher quality capacitors are used too. Also by having different resistance values in the internal circuit the timing curve characteristics can be changed to discharge the capacitor at more beneficial rpm, and rpm can be increased. Typically jetting won't be necessary from a CDI swap alone. And further modifications would be necessary to make the most out of the new CDI.

I'm about to take possession of a new 2024 Genuine Roughhouse, can you suggest which mods would be useful for a street build for commuting with really good acceleration and a bit higher top speed? It's a Mireille 2-stroke, essentially a Zuma engine. I want to add a pipe, possibly rollers if necessary to balance the pipe, and if necessary, reject the carb. I don't want to void factory warranty and the pipe won't do that according to the dealer. So I don't want a big bore kit or anything like that right now. I've had a 2-stroke Kymco Super 9 and that was a fantastic little scoot, it was even water cooled. If you or anyone has anything helpful to suggest, it would be very helpful. I can do the mods myself. I'm just looking for tips from someone much more well versed in the topic than myself. I appreciate any information.
