Amazing. All I can say, simply amazing. This has got to be one of the most powerful videos I have ever seen on KZbin in a long fucking while. I don't know what was so gripping about it but I just couldn't take my attention off it, your commentary was pretty damn powerful. Throughout the entire video I never paused I was just gripped so much and only realized thirty minutes later that I just watched a KZbinr commentating on Call of Duty instead of studying for my English exam tomorrow. I seriously can't understand why this video made me feel like it did. You can apply the exact same logic to FIFA. People have been accusing EA of scripting in their online matches of FIFA for the reasons outlined in this video. I always thought lag was in COD but I always blamed that persons connection and thought they had an unfair advantage due to their terrible connection. I genuinely never thought it could be the developer putting it in the game, you have made a brilliant point.

This is something that I have been suspecting for a long time. Since Black Ops where my KD was at a 2.7, I have had a lower KD in every single CoD after it. MW3 - 2.25, Black Ops 2 - 1.68, CoD Ghosts 1.52, CoD AW - currently 1.28. While I do agree that my skills have decreased somewhat as I've aged from early twenties to late twenties, I couldn't have gone down in skill by much. Lag Compensation though a major way to lower the skill gap (and extremely annoying) has been one of the many tools used to keep the skill gap low, other things such as faster gameplay, terrible spawns, and I suspect skill based matchmaking have also contributed to this. Skill based matchmaking is a good idea when THE GAME SHOWS YOU YOUR SKILL like it did in Halo 2 and 3, when it is hidden it makes you feel like your skills have diminished tremendously.

DynamicUnreal i have notice that how good you do the first few games you play when you get a new cod game seem to help or hurt you later. i did a test with my wife's account on advance warfare and it seems to be true. on my account i played normal and got 3.0 k/d (20+ kills 10-deaths which has been normal for me on most shooting games i play for the last 10 years) for the first 5 games then after played 15 more and i cant seems to make it over 1.0 now. on my wife's account i purposeless tried to stay around 1.0 k/d and it seems to work im not getting the 3.0+ every game but im not having a hard time staying above 1.0 like on my account. me playing on both accounts i have a .90 on my account but on my wife's im a 1.50 kd with the same amount of games played and the same internet console ect.

Yeah if they're giving up on matchmaking and doing this thru lag they suck. Now IF they are getting better at matchmaking, that would make sense because, think about it - if matchmaking was perfect (maybetoo perfect) you'd only play clones of yourself, and you're gonna get K/D of 1.0 against such players right? In any given fight, it's 50/50 who dies. I personally think the opposite of this video. The people they need to keep are the skilled ones, and they think that the skilled guys all get their dicks hard with higher K/D, with endless kill rewards, instaed of the reward of a balanced badass fight. Near wins with players just as good as you, or just as shitty as you. That's what I prefer (as a less skilled player). If they're getting better at matchmaking, then high K/D's should be going down, and yes everything should be evening out to 1 on average. Not by communism as the video suggests but by pure math, because in literally ANY two person system the K/D is always 1/1. Bring in more players and you can see an imbalance but not if you count them all as one group. Of course I'm only talking about matchmaking in terms of skill matching. Team balancing is a different story... that's the one I really hope they'll get a handle on.

maljamin Under such a system, k/d would be meaningless. I could be playing vs. highly skilled players and average a 1.0 k/d and you could play low skilled players and get a 1.0 k/d. On the surface, we would both be just as good. This is why Halo games have had a ranked skill system where you can see your actual skill level on a bell curve between a 1 to a 50. Activision can create this if they want to, but under this system it's hard to make you feel like a "badass" once in a while without manipulating the game. Under the current system, you can have a game where you are seemingly unstoppable and then suck the next 3 games as other players get their unstoppable games.

In a day and age when even a 5 minute video is too long, this is one of my new favorite videos. This truly coincides with what I've come to believe ever since BO1 had framerate issues on the PS3. The only lag compensation that truly has effected my gameplay was BO2, and I had to change my play style with MW3 and Ghosts, but I don't see it going away anytime soon. This was easily the most epic CoD video I have ever seen in my life. I came here looking to vent frustration, and I got more than what I was looking for. It all makes sense now. Corporate greed, corruption, lying.... The list goes on. This 100% explains why I miss MW2 and CoD4 so much, as well as CoD5. Although I believe MW2 was the best CoD for more than just this reason, it was nice to dominate whenever I chose to. In MW2 I could screw around and break even with my K/D, and when I decided to be a tryhard, especially in FFA, almost no one could stop me. But, just like you said... I had a 2 plus ratio in every cod I played until advanced warfare which I have a 1.5. This vid was before the release of the newest cod so imagine what he has to say after playing this lag fest of a game. The reason so many people mostly hated mw3 and ghosts was because they sucked. I had a blast and it was fun as hell to me because I raped every noob every game making them rage quit. I had a high K/D in MW2, MW3 but not in MW1 (it was my first online COD experience). My K/D went WAY down in Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2's LAG caused me to sell the game within two weeks of getting it. I bought Ghosts and I still play it sometimes. But I did NOT buy the expansion packs nor the Season Pass. This forced LAG is bullshit and I am one COD fan whom will not stand for it! If Advanced Warfare still has this bullshit LAG Comp, it will be the last COD game I buy. If they think a player with a LOW K/D is a cash-cow and a person with a high K/D causes them to lose money...then they haven't seen what kind of damage an angry COD fan-boy (whom has been getting his ass kicked for bullshit LAG related reasons) can cause! THEuNkNoWnBeAsT34 Yup, and there was a reason for that. I played Black Ops 1 and the LAG, Host Migrations, Lost Connections to Host, and Lost Connections to Server problems never got any better. The same problem happened with World at War. However, both of those two Treyarch games were playable. Black Ops 2 had frustrated me to the point I actually threw my controller. I'VE NEVER DONE THAT BEFORE IN MY LIFE!!! I figured, if a game is making me this mad, it can't be good for my physical or mental health. Also, the resale value was still high since it was a newer game. If I held onto it and waited, it would have sold for a lower price. Why hold onto it when I could sell it, make most of my money back, and buy it later at a MUCH cheaper price? The $10 I lost in the deal, I would consider just consider a "rental fee" and leave it at that. I figured, it would get better with future patches (like you just suggested); however, all the KZbin videos and Forums I visited suggested nothing had changed. Therefore, I stayed away from Black Ops 2.

God this video brought back so many warm memories. Some days, I wish I could go back in time to the days of playing COD 4 on my PC, late nights on private servers in Europe, with 300 - 500 ping, 20-30 players in a lobby/match, and STILL be top of the leaderboard in most games, with 100+ kills. This happened a LOT! Then when I'd come back to local servers during the day, I'd have around 110 ping, and then the connection would be as smooth as gold or silk, and I'd play like a GOD!! If shit like that was possible back in the day, then clearly something fishy is going on nowadays, as Batman stated.

Amen! I'm new to CoD online (I played Modern Warfare online) and I decided, years later, to try to hop back in with Black Ops 3. And it's like you said, my ping hovers between 20-40ms, yet in some cases with a tap of the trigger my opponent will go down, but shortly thereafter, I'll encounter another opponent in the next room who won't go down with two bursts to the chest. There's clearly some sort of random mechanic going on in the background.

One thing that I disagree with you on is that only the high K/D players have fun. The truth if it is everyone has bad games, normal games, and good games. For a youtuber pub stomper, going 30-10 might be normal or even bad. For a player with a .8 KD that is very good and they will have enjoyed that while the youtuber may be disappointed with it. Truth is there are plenty of people who are fine with going even or slightly negative, I know I dont mind it. My KD is only .8 and what that means for me is a normal game would be going 16-20 and Im ok with that, I dont get mad or rage because thats my norm. now if I go 22-20 Im really happy with that performance and only if I go like 12-20 am I really angry. What I rage the most about is just bullshit deaths caused by "free kill" stuff like IMS, IED, repeated spawn kills or lag.

Okay. So... Hypothetical. You get exactly what you want. Lag is completely fixed. High Skill players ROFLstomp low skill players every time. They get enormous egos and feel wonderful about themselves, they bask in the seething rage and humiliation of all those who do not have the same skill level they do. Those low skill players, not really being stupid, only bad at a video game (As you pointed out yourself, being bad at CoD is no indicator of how good you are at other things or in other disciplines.) , do the rational thing and leave. They do not play FPS multiplayer again. You have effectively chased them off the game. Let's take this to the logical conclusion. The relatively small pool of skilled players (in comparison to the total number of possible players) are left sitting alone on a throne of dominance that only they care about (because no nobody else plays that game now.) And this is satisfying? I get that it can be difficult enough in life to find something you are truly skilled at. But at this point you are suggesting that the community truly bite the hand that feeds them. As unfair as you may think the lag is, if the theory presented in this video is accurate then this system provides the high skill players a steady diet of victims for domination that they would not otherwise have access to. If the low skill players simply quit, or go do something else, all you will have to compete against is a smaller pool of increasingly high skilled players that would deny your domination runs and lower the chances of the games continuing to be made (Less profit motivation for the game creators). After this summation I suppose I am asking what your desired end outcome is? Calling out bullshit is all well and good, but in this case I would recommend being careful what you wish for.

Christopher Ings When I first started playing cod (many years ago) they matched you purely on location. This is probably because their servers weren't as good and had to match you with people close to you for the game to be playable, but that's not my point. My point is that when I started playing, I flat out sucked. I lost most gunfights obviously and had to camp to get any number of kills. Of course there will be people who quit when they aren't good, but those aren't the type of people you want your player base made of anyway. The truly competitive, determined players will make the best games. Cod was successful in the past not factoring skill into matchmaking. All I'm saying is that all you have to do is look at the past success and realize there is no need to fix what isn't broken.

It's the difference between someone playing two hand touch football in the park vs the NFL. There is a reason all these people do not play football together. Or soon it would be just the NFL players playing, and those too stupid or insolently stubborn to quit. Any normal people would have left to go do something else. Not everyone can be MLG. Not everyone can be in the NFL. But these groups are forced to play together in multiplayer. It is in Activision's best interests to keep the lower skill players from simply quitting. So, we have the current situation. Right now, there is nowhere they can go to simply play in the park with other low skilled players to actually enjoy the game. Without being occasionally subjected to the ROFLstomping by high skill players. And the counter argument of 'learn to play' or other derivations is not something that can be done short of devoting any shred of free time you have around other obligations towards mastering any given game. Which is, one among a legion of games available to the consumer. If they want a populated community and continued success for the games they're so good at and enjoy so much. They're going to have to suck it up and deal with it.

I noticed that I had way less issues when I direct connected my consoles to the interwebz...I mean a very noticeable difference. Most people that complain about lag I noticed are not direct connected especially friends that I have that do not have their own place so dont have the liberty of running a line to their room or just play on a tv and dont want to run an ethernet cable to the console. I play on a 24 inch led pc monitor and I switch back and forth from my PC to PS4 and to Xbox1. Try it and you have to have decent upload speed as well at least 5 up and above. If you have good upload and you direct connect you should see a very drastic change when it comes to lag in COD. Remember there are always issues where they are still optimizing the game to handle the big mass of players that all bum rush the servers when the game first comes out as well. But, the netcode in COD I don't believe will ever be near perfect.

I don't think you guys have a clue about what lag compensation is. It isn't normal lag, where everyone just skips around the map or slows down to a halt. When you are affected by lag compensation you are being slowed down, to the point where everything in the game happens before you can react (such as someone going around a corner having a quarter to a full second extra to shoot you in extreme situations) it also shows itself when you run around a corner to hide and the bullets of the enemy magically bend and kill you (because on his/her screen you haven't gone around the corner yet). These are lag problems which didn't exist in CoD 4 and World At War, there was no direct manipulation of the connection and connection heavily relied on how good your internet was. Now it seems that the better internet you have, the worse the lag compensation is as I currently have a 90 mbps down and 90 mbps up connection directly connected through ethernet into my Xbox and CoD AW is basically unplayable for me right now because of the lag compensation.
