This is why Philippines will never punch above its weight, focuses way too much on services sector when agriculture and industrial sectors are arguably more important.

Energy and food are becoming important as days pass by, wall street investors are now targeting farmlands due to its high yield and quadruple ROI, while our government focuses more on saturated markets like tech and service sectors, leaving farmlands inefficient for export.

This is true. They focus more on Tourism and BPO. That's why more citizens have become less skilled in manufacturing and agricultural department. For them, it is easier to earn more money in BPOs but the impact in the economy and the shift of mindset is drastic. The inflation quickly increases because of people tend to be more of a consumer than a producer. Also, the more productive and necesary skills are ignored. We've become obsesses in computers, yes they're necessary, but in the future we cannot deny that AIs will take over these industries. Big companies has already laid off jobs and perfer AIs in their workplaces. Heck, baristas and service crews are already replaced by robots in some countries.

Countries that are more agricultural and manufacturing are now pivoting towards service oriented. All first world countries are service oriented. Look at Vietnam and India There is no data to backup claims that agriculture can boost a country out of poverty.

@@inamorta47-playertwistmaybe it will not boost the economy but it will make the country SELF-SUFFICENT capable of supplying most of our needs, use the excess as products for export, and lessen our importation expenses. It may also lower inflation of the neccesary goods.

I'm American and I have worked in Call Centers for 10+ years... I can tell you right now, witnessing first hand what AI can do and even ChatGPT "Which isn't actually not AI but is close enough". I am telling you with 100% certainty, that it will replace most of the industry and it will target the simpler jobs first "Which is what is mostly outsourced to the Philippines and India and the more advanced ones are still being handled within the US. You will be hit first and the hardest, and they will give you little to no warning when the companies decide to switch to advanced AI scripts... These companies know that any pushback from Pinoy's and Indian's can be mostly ignored because they are mostly US companies that are dealing with US clients. When they replace or cut jobs within the US, the pushback there cannot be ignored because US citizens can push lawmakers and Unions to force those companies to still retain most of the US jobs. Outsourced jobs don't have that leverage, you just get dropped and that's it....

You said what I wanted to say but there’s a difference - American workers have zero rights so companies will always lay off even the top funnel people for cheaper labor so they can raise their stock portfolio.

@@denniszenanywhere There’s certainly a possibility, but AI companies need to be cautious. If they make their advancements too quickly and too easily accessible, it could negatively impact their future sales. The reason is that widespread job displacement might reduce the purchasing power of many people, limiting their ability to buy the very products these companies offer.”
@WordoftheFree

@@denniszenanywhere Not really, let's say a call center for Nike, laid off abunch of people to switch to AI or move the call center overseas. Those American Employee's can and often do "Stop Buying there products" as a form of retaliation... Those products are sold in the US and Not Overseas. Oh, you can get the knockoff versions but no one will buy the overly priced originals. So, like I said before "Pinoy's ect. don't have any leverage at all"

Here in the Philippines, nobody's talking about AI job displacement. This is the only video you'll find that tackles it. There's so many of us that rely on it. This shows that the people in charge have no idea of what they are doing. Everything a call center agent does can be done with AI without the human disadvantages. Customer service skills are obsolete. The only thing stopping it right now is the chip shortage, the big companies are hoarding the supply. But when supply is fixed say goodbye to those jobs.

BPO is a bubble waiting to burst-that's just what bubbles do, they burst. For an economy to rely heavily on an extremely volatile industry is asking for trouble. Imagine for a moment $38 billion out of the government coffers per year-putting 1.8 million people out of their jobs in an instant would be disastrous to say the least. Same with over reliance on remittances of OFWs. The world is changing and Philippines is not getting itself ready for it. Parties end and the Philippines might just find itself without a chair when the music stops.

Nurses and all? nahihilo kaba. The people on top absolutely understands what we really need. But a far more prosperous people will only elect individuals who truly have the citizens in mind. That's a threat to their way of life. Corruption, money, and power is all that matters to them. They would rather see us all burn than lose what they always had. Prosperity and the ability to do wrong against us all and still get away with it.

As someone who has a implemented an AI project for a financial institution based in the UK, I can definitely confirm that AI will eventually replace most of the BPO jobs. Our government should open our economy by removing the antiquated and protectionist 60/40 Equity law in our 1987 Constitution. In order for other industries to flourish in the country like manufacturing and agriculture.
