Over time it makes sense why. This just a theory. Trance is designed for an individual journey having a lot to do with looking inward. While that is great for creating more passion and a connection with the music itself. It isn't as effective in getting people to look outward with the focus on socializing. At the cost of a possibly weaker direct bond to the music, effective mainstream music serves its purpose as great background noise while people focus more on partying and socializing. This builds a stronger group social focus and thus brings in more party goers, more profit, and more votes. It's not a function of the quality of Atkinson's music, it's a function of the hypnotic anti social nature of trance at least when it's really good. That's when trance lives up to its name. A person getting hypnotized isn't necessarily having a bunch of other people distracting him or her. They are one person zoned in the moment. As deep an experience as that sounds compared to a random night out with friends and Martin Garrix sing along in the background, it only represents one vote on dj mag. Basically when it comes to this kind of music it's not designed to attract more people as effective as possible. It's genrally designed for the person taking the time to listen in and get lost. Individualism is a strong theme in trance music. While mainstream music drives more on collectivist values

And yes, I've listened to the classics that were released before 2011 :) my favorites are the Uplifting/Orchestral Trance tunes, that really set this genre apart from others. For example: many from SoundLift- Honor, Victorious, Live from above, Lenda, Nakhti, One Day. Also, Mhammed El Alami, illitheas, Johannes Fischer- Breath of Life, and New Rise. I'd say the ASOT 1000 anthem is still a great track, even if it does sound like a successor to Status Excessu D (though that can be arguably convey a semblance of continuity). It's an apples to oranges thing as both this and the ASOT 1000 anthem are stellar tracks with different energies yet similar trancey vibes, and I'd gladly dance my heart out to both. That said, I can look forward to this track dropping at the ASOT 1000 celebration, would be more than happy to hear it on the 138 stage, or maybe even on the mainstage. The future of trance looks bright, even through trying times.
