Atreus also seems to have a little "hook" on his back, similar to the hook Kratos has to hold Leviathan. It might be a hood for the bow, but doesn't look like a very practical hook for a bow. I might be wrong though.

Problem is, if everything is destroyed, how do you do the sidequests? Not saying it is impossible but it would feel a bit weird every single sidequest working normally while the entire world is destroyed

If they do that, they’d most likely end up putting a prompt while continuing the storyline, such as, “By continuing through this door, you fully accept the consequences of Ragnorök. All side quests will be temporarily unavailable.” Or something like that lol

As an archery instructor, I can tell you that there’s also a practical reason for Atreus’s quiver moving down to his hip. While both back and hip quivers were historically worn, the back quiver basically looks cool in the movies while the hip quiver makes for a faster reload of your next arrow. While also leaving room for a potential new weapon as you said @kaptainkuba

If you look at 4:41 you can see a little S-shaped hook on Atreus' back. Kratos has a small omega-shaped hook on his back which holds his axe. Considering that they moved Atreus' quiver down to his waist, maybe the S-shaped hook is there to hold some new weapon.

Since before the release of GOW 2018, Barlog kept saying this was gonna be the new "trilogy", and now they're saying this game will end the Norse saga, not be the final game in the new GOW series. So maybe Kratos leaving the Norse realm to go to some other one could lead to the final game of the trilogy? Maybe Kratos ends up in another pantheon like the Egyptian one, and Atreus starts traveling the realms to discover who Loki is like he said in the trailer. Maybe game #3 would be their reunion after so many years apart, and the game would have Last of Us vibes with the father and son spending the whole game trying to make amends with each other. If the 1st new GOW game was about making the father/son bond with an estranged family member, the 2nd might be about breaking it since Atreus is a moody teen, and the 3rd could be them healing and really getting over all the things they've had to do to get to that point since Atreus is grown and thinks more like an adult. Idk, that's what this video got me thinking, plus I just want it to be a trilogy.

I like the idea of Atreaus getting the axe. Btw. reason for relocation of his quiver is also a practical one, as it has been pointed out by professionals that usage of bow is faster when arrows are on hips instead of back,as it makes drawing them easier and faster

An alternate gameplay theory: how about, having Atreus being able to “time to time carry” different weapons on his back that Kratos can cycle through. Also gives an opportunity to use different weapons in different ways, maybe like Atreus was able to fight with the axe when Kratos went into the light of Alfiem, Atreus can have and upgrade some axe skills as well.. or even Kratos gets to use the bow and arrow like previous games, with or without the animal summons..

While I'm not certain whether or not Atreus will be playable or not in God of War Ragnarok, what I am expecting from Ragnarok is for Atreus to be able to do more than just shoot 3 arrows and do 1 special attack. My idea right now is for God of War Ragnarok to do something similar to what Batman Arkham Knight did. For people that played Arkham Knight, they're aware that this game had several missions where you as Batman got to team up with Batman's sidekicks like Robin and Nightwing, as well as Catwoman. During these missions, whenever you're in combat, you could switch between Batman and his sideckicks by performing combos and takedowns on enemies together with the sidekicks. I think it would be cool if we could do something like this in Ragnarok, where we switch between Kratos and Atreus by performing combos and kills together (imagine how cool and creative the kill animations could be). Imo, this would add so much to the combat of Ragnarok, as well as any boss battles in the game.

I don’t think Kratos and Atreus are going to separate, but I think angraboda is going to either help them leave Midgard or kind of get Atreus’ focus on who Loki is. But if he finds out his purpose to be the protector of giants and the Aesir are dead then what’s his point in staying. Kratos leaving doesn’t seem like something he would do unless they were forced to I mean does he really want to live like in the comics again and start all over

We already see the bow holstered in the free space you pointed out. Also, there are already segments of GOW 2018 that We have no AI companion, Wildwoods opening, First fight with Baldur, the entire journey back to the house and Helheim, gameplay is mostly unaffected. Sure it will be sad having a Square button that does nothing but that will only further highlight the pain of Atreus/Loki leaving as it will have just as big of gameplay effect as it will emotional effect on Kratos. Also, the (Cosmetic only) designation on the white snow/darkdale attire for Atreus indicates that Atreus’s armor sets will have no effect on gameplay like they did in GOW 2018, think of it like Dutch’s tent in RDR2, the devs don’t want the player spending money thinking they’ll make Atreus stronger in combat because the devs know Atreus will not be around for a good portion of the story and the post game. In my opinion, Atreus and Angrboda will have grown older and had their children together while separated from Kratos and after a final fight with Thor, Atreus/Loki will take his family and leave since from his perspective, it’s been years since he’s seen his father and he has responsibilities to his wife/children and cannot allow Kratos in his life.

I can't really see them completely let go of Kratos. Maybe like you said they split up at the end of the game and we get an Atreus game the way you described it. I think they'll see what people think of it and make another gow game in which you can play both as Atreus and Kratos, maybe even a co op game. Gow 2018's big surprise was the blades of chaos. Getting to play as loki will be the sequel's bombshell. It opens up a whole new world of Mechanics and features and if well designed, Its gonna blow everyone's minds. I think thats why they needed more time to develope the game. And i should add the fact that every gow ever made has at least added one new weapon to the franchise. So don't be worried about Atreus being boring in fights. I'm sure they know what they're doing👌

I think a nice way to introduce the idea of making Atreus playable is to, as you said, split up in the middle of the game by a fight or so (Atreus wanting to be along the Aesir and Kratos not). And then we'll play a bit with Kratos and what he's up to and then somehow we'll jump to Atreus and play as him. Something like The Witcher: Wild Hunt did with Geralt and Ciri. I think that's atleast a nice way to introduce Atreus as playable.
