I've talked with them last week. Already they are so overwhelmed that they are no longer accepting submissions from authors, just agents. I agree with their mindset 100%.

I like the sound of them so far, but want to see more about how much creative control authors will have over their books and covers. I don't care about money - what matters to me is being faithful to the vision. I hope they turn out to be a real alternative to hybrid and traditional routes. Thankyou.

It will be interesting to see exactly how it works. I like the sound of them so far. The publishing industry really needs to be shaken up. It isn't working in its current form. The big 5 have a death grip on the industry. It's the end users, the buyers of the books that are suffering the most. They can only buy these low quality stories and low quality writing that the publishers will sell them. That's why books aren't selling. Give people what they want and they'll buy it. You're not going to make more money by cutting staff and raising prices. You're going to make more money by selling more books. The big 5 are being run by a bunch of English majors, not business people. So they don't understand that.

It's fascinating. But how will literary agents be compensated, if they are not doing advances?

What indie authors need is more resources to help them STAY indie and still be competitive--like the hardback book covers with debossing, gold or silver foil, deckle-edged pages, etc. All options, of course, but why can't we have the same?

I agree hardcover options are not great

um why does their site say transparency is a big part of it but i can't find any details on what the actual change in splits will be? Is this maybe going to be by recruitment only for already well selling authors so they don't feel they need to reveal it? Seems like they would have a much better pitch by just saying what it is or starts at, like my 25% lawyer undercutting personal injury lawyers - it's literally in the name. Or redfin's 2% seller listing fee...etc

I wouldn't be surprised if there are different "packages" with different splits. For example, some authors might want to handle their own marketing and just need help with editing and production, others don't want to do any marketing, etc. Another question is will authors need to be paying anything to get the book published? or is all the financial risk handled by the company? If the latter, then they will be less flexible about authors' preferences and more selective about manuscripts. Given the backers, I wonder if it's going to be targeted toward social media influencers who write books and can market the average book far more effectively than traditional publishers do.

Right? I mean i get building hype but don't say it's about transparency then give 0 lol. That's the whole key.@@5Gburn

I’m so excited the artist are goi going to reap the rewards of their creativity. I’m not a writer, but very interested in investing in Authors equity. Is that possible? I purchased two atomic habits when first released. I must admit, did not follow his words of wisdom, although I understood exactly what James Clear was advising. Love that guy and his thoughts! Moving forward and not looking back!!! 🙏❤️
