Gotta appreciate just how many plates were made and sacrificed in the making of this video 🔥

ceramic tile, denim, duct tape, and, for extra protection, an aluminum plate. I've tested this multiple times and they can stop small arms fire. I would even argue that its perfectly doable for home defense, especially if you live in a country where body armor is inaccessible to consumers.

Thanks for keeping uploading quality videos and, best of all, the correct lenght. You don´t ramble aroung. Just pure content to enjoiy. I think other gun channels should start doing this. Going back to the basis. Anyway, greetings from Argentina.

Fun fact, if you swap out the denim with a thin (about the same thickness as the ceramic) plate of aluminum, it is much better. I did some testing pre-covid with boron-carbide ceramic and was able to stop 30-06 at 10 yards. Boron carbide is much better as a ceramic. I would guestimate it is around 2-3x as effective by thickness.

I'm surprised at how little the 556 penetrated the gel. Those five tiles slowed it down a lot!

I remember over 20 years ago when I was still a teenager living with my mother, I had watched on the History Channel an episode on body armor, and after learning about ceramic plates and how having something that holds it together gives it ballistic capabilities, I experimented with pellet and BB guns that I had by putting duct tape on ceramic dishes, and I discovered that the BB's and pellets always passed through if there was no tape on the plate, but just a mere single layer on one side was all it needed to stop the BB's and pellets let alone having tape on both sides. So I'm not surprised that a little bit thicker ceramic tiles with duct tape was able to perform like this

One thing to try as well is to back each tile by epoxying a thin, maybe equal thickness as the tile, layer of Lexan. The lexan will act as a shock absorber and help to reduce the crushing impact on the next plate in line. The hard tile face will help break up, flatten out, and or slow down the faster and or smaller rounds and the lexan will then apply the left over force across the entire sheet of lexan.

Great video brother, was not expecting that to work, and especially couldnt believe my eyes when i saw it stop the frickin .50 AE 😮 mind has been blown

If you think about it, it makes sense since 556 is a level III threat while .50 AE is only a level IIIA threat

If you were to put a layer of fiberglas and resin between each tile, you'd have a pretty good plate.

One thing I could think of that would have been fun to try would be to stick something like a tomato between the "plates" and the gel, in order to get an idea of how hard of a "thump" you'd end up getting even if improvised plate prevents projectile penetration (say that 3 times fast lol).

A question I'd be curious to see answered: does the addition of hardware store tiles to a level 3 or 3A vest do anything to increase the capability of it for even a single-shot incident?

I was once told in a pinch to put tile in the middle of a phone book and the duck tape it all up. If you can still find an actual phone book now anyway.

If I were doing to build plates it would be fiberglass and carbon fiber over a shaped aluminum plate. Probably better to buy AR500

I figured a lot of them would bounce the bullet but then proceed to Newton cradle a bunch of ceramic spalling everywhere, was surprised how well simple duct tape and fabric kept that stuff contained.

The trick is to use 3/8"mild steel plate behind a layer of tile it. It'll be heavy but it'll stop a lot more.

As simple as duct taping a sheet of tiles to the front of your lvl3 to get rifle rated armour in a pinch?

25-30 layers of kevlar(no substitutions!) With 2 or 3 layers of tiles will stop a 762x39 at 10 ft. Also can stop a 54r lead core fmj.

This diy design mixed in with the video by ZNA Productions using resin I can absolutely use as walls and ceilings for a makeshift house, fort, shack, or even semi underground housing. Make em thick enough and your solid
@coreytaggart12810 ай бұрын
Really wonder how much the denim did vs just duct tape. I would assume in a real plate the tile breaks up and eats velocity of the bullet and the fibers catch the pieces so something like Kevlar would be ideal. In the budget version would something like elastic be better then denim? Or maybe a leg of pantyhose drop in then wrap the remainder loosely so the stretch is still there to catch slower low mass bits.
