Hey Todd, appreciate all your recent videos on the Canyon. I’m considering the AT4 and this recent video helps me to get some more perspective on a midsize vs full size truck. I am waffling back and forth between the two. Only issue I have overall with the AT4 config is 8” screen..i think GMC kinda cheaped out on that with only offering the 11” in Denali and AT4 trims. Other than that it looks like a solid truck.
@ToddCotta Жыл бұрын
I got a phone call from GM today. I actually lodged a formal letter complaint to them about it. And they called me back. They said they will have more information for me on Monday.
@spyjms Жыл бұрын
@@ToddCotta interesting, someone was trying to save a buck. I get it for the Chevy, but GMC based on their marketing positioning should have all their screens 11. Gotta think Toyota saw that and went hmmm lets make sure to differentiate ourselves there on the next Tacoma as a + in their column.
@sigshooter2348 Жыл бұрын
@@ToddCotta I'll be very interested to hear what they have to say to you about it. The Canyon AT4 has been my primary focus for my next truck, but I am very disappointed that I can't get the 11" DIC without going to a trim level (like the AT4X or Denali) that I don't want. It's forcing me to reconsider how much I like this model, and whether it will be better to look at the upcoming options from the Toyota Tacoma (reveal coming the 19th of this month) or the new 2024 Ranger (also being revealed officially later this month).
@ToddCotta Жыл бұрын
In two weeks Toyota will be introducing the next Tacoma. Probably one of the most important announcements they have ever made. That being said, Yes, the 11 inch screen would be nice, the 8 is good, not great. But that would not stop me from getting my AT4. I am trying everything I can to see if it can be retrofitted. GM made a very bad decision to exclude it on the AT4. Elevation, yes, AT4 it must have it to compete. Have a good evening.

@@ToddCotta thanks again for your very informative videos. I’ll be interested as well to hear GM’s response to you. Please keep us posted. I have the AT4 similar to yours on order with the technology plus package which should have included the 11 inches digital instrument cluster. I’m a software engineer and my guess it is just a matter of software configuration to enable what they call in the owner’s manual the uplevel display to be used instead of the base display.

What is the payload capacity of this truck? I believe it has a premium package and sunroof. So is that impacting the payload capacity? The normal payload capacity for AT4 is 1580lb. I was wondering how it changed with packages and running boards 🤔?

1580 lbs is correct. just just reduce that number by the weight of the boards and any other addons you put on the truck. Thanks for the comment!

Did you try putting the forward facing toddler seat behind the driver's seat and see if there would be enough room with the driver's seat in your desired spot? I have 2 kids, 1 rear facing car seat and 1 forward facing. I assume the forward facing would be better behind the driver

Thank you for that. I saw the canyon/Colorado had the biggest leg room F/R in its class and was curious about rear facing car seats. Im 6'2 myself, so it can be a tight squeeze in some vehicles. We are currently using a 15 Tacoma and its working, and it looks like this canyon would give us more room, but I dont know if it would really be much more. We have a F350 DRW that fits us all very comfortably, but its a big truck around town. So was considering another vehicle in between that would work but not be giant. Thinking a full size truck or mid size SUV may do the trick. Thank you

Hey Todd! Thanks for fielding everyone's questions, I'd like to add to the growing list! 1. With the rear bench seat folded up, how much room is there for a medium/large dog? Is that bottom tray under the bench easily removable for more space? and also 2. Can you shift the car out of park if the key fob is not in the car?

Hey there, helpful video. how would it be with two booster seats and an infant seat in the back. My wife and I have 3 young kids but this would not be our main family hauler. It would be my car that sometimes would need to drive all three kids around town but not a long haul. I like the idea of a smaller truck (full sized would be great but they are so expensive once speced out) and easier to maneuver. Especially since I already have a Huge family car. Would love your thoughts (or a video?) to see how this might work. Also, I am 5’11” and the wife is 5’1”.

@ToddCotta Жыл бұрын
What a Taco with mechanical issues? Are you spoofing me? :) Sorry to hear about your troubles. :( I am 6'2 and if I put the drivers seat all the way to the rear, I can barely touch the pedals. Granted, there is NO room in the back seat when you do that, but I find it to most comfortable at about 3/4 to the rear with about 5 inches from back seat. To compare it is as comfortable or even more than my 2020 GMC Sierra AT4 was. Overall very comfortable. Thanks for asking!
@123maverickman Жыл бұрын
The Tacoma will RARELY go into high gear. I live in the flattest prairies, truck is completely empty and only me in the truck and never will stay in high gear. The transmission hunts gears all day up and down. My fuel economy is as bad as owning a 3500HD. And I’m not alone. Do a Google search and you will see Toyota “reliability” has gone down severely since Covid.

What I believe is happening is when you have folding seats with behind seat storage, you loose interior room, which is a NO GO for many people. It is a trade off that each manufacturer must weigh the needs versus the reality.

I remember a decade or more ago. The midsized truck buyers were not worried about child seats fitting. They would give the Honda Ridgeline hell about stuff like this. How comfortable a pickup truck was. How did child seats fit into it.
@ToddCotta Жыл бұрын
A decade ago the market was much different. Today the range of truck buyers is much greater and excluding families is losing out on a huge sales opportunity in the truck industry. I remember when extended cab trucks were the bomb, and then 4 door trucks took over. Everything changes. Trucks are now nicer than most sedans, and buyers expect it for the money we are spending. Thanks for commenting!

Rory-Not Gail: Hmmm. Are these GM-sponsored or compensated reviews? I don't think that's an accurate representation/depiction of the actual, real use fit. There was no demo of you in the driver's seat. Why? You can't sit as far forward in the driver's seat as you could in the passenger seat due to the steering wheel/air bag. There was no demo of the driver's side with you - at 6''02 - in the DRIVER'S seat or with a child whose feet would be protruding toward or into the back of either front seat. You get the GONG! on this one.
