I absolutely refuse to entertain the idea of “rewarding” Aziraphale and Crowley by making them human. 6000+ years of pining, three or so decades of togetherness followed by being separated for rest of eternity - after all, Crowley is damned - is a punishment, not a reward. If I want to see them as human there is tons of fanfic for that. Let’s please keep them canonically supernatural. They deserve that.

My main reason for wanting them to keep their immortality and live that immortal existence until the end of time in their cottage, is the fact that they have so much lost time to make up for. We all know about the 6000+ year long pining, so I personally would find it terribly disappointing if they couldn't make up for all that time they spent dancing around one another They should have billions of years left in their love, it transcends mortality It'd be a shame to watch them finally realise their love and settle down, only for that to be further disturbed by their eventual mortal deaths. Whilst I see the argument that perhaps in a mortal death, they could proceed to see each other in their afterlife, however I just don't see it as very fitting. At least not for them! It's difficult to explain, but j truly don't want to see them become mortal if it means that their love/connection will once again be disturbed for the thousandth time

One of the big objections to the boys becoming human: physical suffering. They may already empathize with a lot of it as they interact with the humans in their lives, but experiencing it on a tangible level isn't worth letting go of the pain-free physicality they currently enjoy. And, they would lose the capacity to go to Alpha Centauri, or anywhere else in the universe, if they became human, so they'd cut themselves off from the possibility of many, many adventures!

I've always thought it was odd in GO that we don't see human souls in heaven as we do in hell. We know from Aziracrow's conversation in s1e1 (discussing which composers are "one of ours", i.e., have gone to hell) that some souls go to each place. If all human souls are immortal and they could be together after dying, I might be reconciled to this ending.

We see souls go to deeper levels in hell, so they don't hang around in the upper office levels beyond waiting to be processed. Ok, so for me. The human ending while bittersweet and is a norm that most people tend to take. Its not GO's style. GO tends to make spin the usual trope in their own comedic way that either favors the characters or make the audience think more deeply into the concept of the trope itself or both. If the og ending that David likes has only minor tweaks, then I think the human route is more unlikely since i dont think David would be satisfied with an ending where Crowley would be with Aziraphale but eventually would lose him. Or could just be me really coping for the immortal cottage core.

Wonderful video as always, thank you❣️ Personally I’m absolutely no fan of the idea that Aziraphale and Crowley turn into humans. What a horrible imagination! They were living for more than 6000 years, just found to one another and then damned to die within two or three decades - if not earlier by an accident. They deserved more time “together“. Fortunately, there is no evidence of such a scenario and there is no comparable story from GO's past in which an angel or demon would have become human. Why would they be? Since Season 2 I’ve always thought it will end with Aziraphale and Crowley facing their death at the end of the world and then they hold hands and perform a big miracle along with all the humans trying to save Earth. And the miracle makes it so that they can stay on Earth and all other angels and demons also have free will to live there if they want.
@letolethe3344Ай бұрын
One enjoyable but extremely unlikely theory came to me when we saw how immensely powerful their tiny joint miracle was in season 2: Aziraphale and Crowley, together, make up God. One or more powerful supernatural beings somehow subdued God, wiped her memory, and split her into two outwardly fairly minor beings to dilute her power. And that's why no one's heard from God in eons. I realize that God talking to Aziraphale in s1e3 (asking him about his sword) pretty much makes this impossible. But it's fun to imagine.
@letolethe3344Ай бұрын
Another theory I've entertained is that the finale will end with heaven and hell making peace, forced or talked or tricked into it by Aziracrow (and maybe others). That would mitigate likelihood of continuous end-times scenarios where they try to defeat the enemy. Not sure where human souls would go after that; maybe Upstairs and Downstairs would become one joint operation.

I think people think of this ending because Crowley needs a way to be with Aziraphale after Judgement Day, because he will either be in Hell eternally or be destroyed. Heck, they've been on earth for over 6000 years without Heaven or Hell making much of a problem for them, at least not to Aziraphale. Crowley does get punished at times, but he's always back at it. Disrupting the Second Coming, and hopefully a reappearance of God (and possibly saving Heaven from Metatron) to give them their reward of being left in peace, in South Downs, together and immortal. And the ending of s2--need I say more?

Absolutely not. I believe turning them human would be bad writing and just... sad. They don't need to BE human to appear AS human. Their whole thing is "I am an angel, you are a demon", "I'm the good one, you're the bad one". I like that dynamic! They've also known each other since before time existed. To turn that into probably a maximum of 40 years is DEVASTATING, and having one die before the other (unless someone they die together, but that also sounds awful, since it would likely have to happen via an accident of some kind) is just heartbreaking to think about. Aziraphale mourning Crowley, or Crowley mourning Aziraphale, living the rest of their days alone. Because, let's be honest, who have they got apart from each other, really?

I think the idea of the two becoming human is cute, but I'm not a fan. Without the skills they've always had, I don't see them getting along. Crowley’s driving style alone will end the whole thing very quickly. They would actually have to reserve a table at the Ritz, cook, and realize that something that wouldn't have bothered them before could suddenly become painful and, in the worst case scenario, fatal. Both Aziraphale and Crowley only know existence with the abilities they have. Losing them is not a win, because you are exchanging a fragile togetherness for another that, in the worst case, can be over in a few hours. I like the idea that they can spend their lives together on Earth. Like the guardians of humanity that they already are. Just without heaven and hell on your back.
@katsmith1031Ай бұрын
I see one of three options… 1) AziraCrow becoming the “official” guardians of humanity, ideally after Both Sides agree to truly butt out and let humans do their thing, as our two ineffable husbands prove that they, more than literally anyone in the universe, love and understand gods creation. 2) AziraCrow becoming human - perhaps as a consequence of the power they might need to expend while working together to Put It Right - and either aging normally together or simply remaining immortal for as long as they choose to, much like Hob Gadling in the Sandman (I prefer the second option, obviously). 3) AziraCrow merging to share one body - as Az will presumably be giving his up when he takes over as Supreme Archangel (as it was hinted at in S1, plus we already know the two are more powerful together) to Put It Right, but in the process effectively being able to take over for God for the earth given their hands-on experience from their 6,000+ years on Earth and their demonstrated love and commitment to it. Who is to say that God isn’t ready for a new adventure Herself and Planned all along on worthy successors to reveal themselves, especially given the power and perspectives that come from the union of opposites Bonus option that sort of ties together all three of the ones above: AziraCrow (along with GabrielZebub) demonstrate to God that the angels that the demons all used to be aren’t necessarily truly lost, and pairing that with the absolute hash the angels and demons together have made of things, God decides to “promote” all of the demons and all of the angels to full human status - God’s favorites - with clean slates, wiped memories (and all pain gone) and their own new shiny souls to live a regular life and then die the same as all of us do (am not sure what happens to the denizens of Hell if this happens, since if demons can be redeemed then certainly human souls can, but that’s more a topic for another series, such as Lucifer). If this happens, our AziraCrow would be given the choice to either join them in the reset or remain the guardians they have become of God’s most favored children for as long as AziraCrow think they’re needed. I personally think it’s likely to be a combination with elements of all three, but in any case, I can’t wait to see how it shakes out!

Personally I would feel a bit let down if they became human. Their struggle isn't with a lack of humanity; it's with the divide and animosity between Heaven and Hell, about being forced to choose a side. And what makes them special, what defines them, is their refusal to play that game, and their hard-won capacity for free will and choice. Becoming human would, in my eyes, just... take away all that. Poof, all the dynamics underlying their complicated relationship, everything that makes them _them_ gone, erased, made nothing. I wouldn't find that satisfying. And I don't think _they_ would, either. Like the video says, they've never expressed such a desire. It would be a massive sacrifice, with no reward. What I think they _would_ want is for Heaven and Hell to stop fighting. To stop competing for human souls. To stop forcing angels and demons to choose. To be allowed to be themselves, without fear of retribution. It's easy to draw parallels between their struggle for their right to be who they are and to love each other, and with the issues queer people face. I guess to me, an ending where they have to become human to be together would feel as wrong as a queer romance story ending with the romantic leads having to magically become a straight chishet couple to be together.

If Crowley and Aziraphale were to turn human in the end I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be the end at all. They might live out the rest of their human lifes together and then die but that wouldn't mean obliteration. I really think they'd both go to Heaven (whatever he says, Crowley IS a good person) and live out eternity in their cottage up there. On the other hand... that would leave earth and humanity without someone to protect them from the occasional idiocy and the resulting ideas and actions occuring both, Up Above and Down Below. It might be in humanity's best interest to keep Aziraphale and Crowley as some kind of immortal guardian (read: buffer) between earth and the occult/ethereal forces. In the end it doesn't really matter to me if they turn human or not, the only important thing is that they find their ways back to each other and get to spend eternity together, one way or another.
@letolethe3344Ай бұрын

I'm very rarely a fan of this trope of the immortal or powered character losing their powers/becoming mortal etc at the end of the story. With some rare exceptions it always takes away something from the story. For GO, I don't even think it would make sense. They've never shown any desire to be human and while they love humanity, they are always somewhat separate from it. They also use their divine powers regularly, they wouldn't last a week without powers. But more than that, it would be unnecessarily cruel. After the millenia of pining, they deserve infinite millenia more of being together. The argument that they could live mortal lives and die and be together forever in heaven or wherever is dumb because they already have that. They're already divine beings, they don't need forever in heaven. Plus how would they handle being reduced to human fodder for heaven and hell to mess with in their next war? What I'd much prefer to happen is for them to become guardians of earth/humanity, watching over humans and keeping them safe from whatever crap heaven and hell are trying to pull.
@kayrosis5523Ай бұрын
I don't think that Crowley and Aziraphale should or will become human. But I do get the very strong feeling that will fight their respective realms on behalf of humanity, that because they spent so much time with God's most chosen of creatures, they have watched Humans do things more evil than any Demon could imagine, and more good than any Angel could understand. I think they will come to see that it's humanity's seeming imperfections and struggles that actually make individual humans less than individual demons or angels, but make humanity as a whole far greater than Heaven or Hell could ever hope to be. Honestly I strongly sense a finale where Crowley leads humans into a battle against Hell, and Aziraphale leads humanity into a battle against Heaven. If not like a full on military battle, an epic confrontation which collapses Heaven and Hell, and it just becomes Humanity and God, Because God was always beyond Capital E Existence, and Humanity is growing into it's maturity within Capital E Existence. From the very beginning, it says God is playing an ineffable game, that no one else can really put into words, and treating the whole existence of Heaven and Hell as a warming up the engine for making Humanity become it's best self, seems like a playful thing that would make God smile.

I don't know what the screenwriters will come up with, but when I consider various myths where immortal beings lost their mortality, in most cases it was out of love when they decided to live with a mortal person. Either in such a case they gave up their mortality voluntarily, or it was taken away from them by their immortal family - or their society (gods, spirits, fairies..). I don't recall any immortal being becoming mortal as punishment (and I don't feel like flipping through my dictionaries on mythology to see if I can find such a situation :-) So my guess is that their immortality could remain, because as a couple they are both immortal. And heaven and hell punish rather with torture and death and the promised good ending somewhat excludes killing them...

Or, a third option ..... "The Myth of the Missing Half: It is believed that when humans were initially created at the beginning of time, they had a different form than they have today. They were both male and female, with four arms, four legs, and a single head composed of two faces. Plato had Aristophanes, a great Greek theater and comedy writer, narrate the story of the Soulmates in 'The Symposium'. Plato describes it like this: 'According to Greek mythology, humans were originally created with four arms, four legs, and a head with two faces. Fearing their power, Zeus split them into two separate parts, condemning them to spend their lives in search of their other halves.' Apollo, the God of music, truth and prophecy, healing, and light, couldn't take seeing them like this, so he patched them up, reconstructed their physical shapes, and only left the navel as a memory of their former selves. As a result, humans evolved from double-faced, double-sex creatures with aspects of humanity to single-faced, single-sex creatures with two arms and legs. And they yearned for their soul and bodily counterparts for the rest of their lives. Their body natures would yearn to be complete with the physical natures of the other sex, and their souls would ache for the other half of their soul, their soulmate, to be whole. And, according to myth, when these two parts find each other, they will have a wordless comprehension of one another, will feel connected and exist in sync with one another, and will experience no greater pleasure." What if the destiny of Azira and Crowley is to recombine and be together forever?

I thought I was the only one who had this theory! I'm not sure when it came to me as a possibility, but I've read a lot and I'm pretty sure I've seen people be punished/demoted to mortality before, not as the ideal (yes, I did Star Trek and that belonging does fit in), but I think because the only way they can truly be free is the destruction of the entire system. System destroyed- what happens to them? Mortality is a possibility as there is no longer power to draw from Heaven or Hill as they are destroyed (this could also be good or bad for dead humans, but we don't know much about that since we've never seen humans in Heaven). It's probably honestly LOTR that made me think of becoming mortal. If Heaven and Hill do remain, it could be an agreement, yes, freedom in exchange for humanity, angels and demons must obey and are linked, but humans are free, they are currently in a middle ground and it's causing their problems. I remember the first time I heard David say his thing about "a good ending", it was that awful day on Tumblr before The Awful Day-- so, May or June? Anyway, when he said that I was seized with the immediate certainty of the mortality theory and I don't know why.. Do I want it? No. Did I think about the other angels and demons? No. We don't actually know what they do, but I imagine in the dismantling of their respective workplaces, there will be intermingling and more travel to Earth such as Muriel is doing (a reason to show Muriel at all) but that's a lot of immortal beings. And would they be immortal without powers? Mortal with? Some mix? Who knows. I know from Bluesky that we were told that there aren't actually 10 million per side, but there must be loads. Aziraphale and Crowley are currently very human and it just feels right but it also feels awful. I don't have an answer. I was told that they never were human, kind of like a person can't become a cat, but that also doesn't feel right. This is not coherent because I'm beyond exhausted but that won't change and there are thoughts here. I think part of it is difficulty with the concept of immortality, but also it is attractive because human lives ARE too short. But I agree that even if writing "comedy" the writers wouldn't hesitate to allow this change. I mean, in Small Gods, the example someone gave me was that the forgotten small gods didn't die, but they almost did, didn't they? They were away and they basically faded if I remember correctly, kind of faded away in some sort of storage, very similar to a death... Small Gods was written around the same time. But I definitely feel they likely will become human in canon and I likely will deny it in headcanon, and so it will go. It just feels that way to me. Of course, we will all see in time.

I never thought that Aziraphale and Crowley were human. I think they would be better if they were angel and demon. They could keep their powers and be together also.

Interesting that this theory is gathering steam! Personally I would rather they stay immortal, but I don’t hate the human theory either. Yes it would be bittersweet, but I can see the appeal as well. For instance, what if one of them was ‘turned’ human against their will (I.e as ‘punishment’ for stopping the second coming or something) and the other, rather than live an immortal life without them, chose to become human as well so they wouldn’t have to live without the other (at least not for long). Bittersweet yes, but an undeniable declaration of how much they love one another.

I believe both of them will actually lean more into their respective ethereal roles, spending more time in heaven and hell than previous seasons. As aziraphale is now an archangel, he’s gonna have more responsibility, and the war between heaven and hell will have them both preparing. They may even face each other in war.

I see why you think it will end this way, I have a feeling it will, though I hope it doesn't. G seems to like unexpected or twist endings (each of the first 2 seasons have a twist, s1 is them swapping bodies, s2 is obvious), and it would fulfill their character arc of identifying more with human things. The whole franchise is deeply humanist, a kind of a love letter to the best and worst of humanity. I just don't want them to ever die.

In my mind, Arizaphale and Crowley are immigrants sent by their bosses down to earth. Their thousands of years of shared human history, having to hide their true identity behind a mask of looking and behaving like humans is mentally stressful even if you generally enjoy the experience and find it interesting: it is such a mental relief to chat with someone who "speaks the same language" and can relate to your experience. It doesn't matter that your personalities don't match... So the pair, once amiacbly on the same side, is drawn to each other by their So they are drawn to each other by their circumstance and lack of choice. Were there other angels and demons with better matching personalities their frienship might never have developed. But Arizaphel and Crowley didn't have a choice - but I guess sharing 6000 years or so is enough for even angles to become friends despite their very different interests. Now, if the became fully human, having to earn money rather than just pretend, they would have a choice of a few of them would lead a very different lifestyle, with millions of other, like minded people and friendships they could allow to develop into deeper level... There would be a danger of the two drifting apart, first letters and then postcards becoming less and less frequent. I could see Arizaphel getting married and having kids, while Crowley, frustrated with humanity would stay single, maybe take a job as an agent for a rock band or a security guard, a nightglub owner..

I absolutely HATE this theory of them becoming mortal with every fibre of my being. It would feel so unfair to have them not be able to be together for literal aeons, only for them to be granted the lifespan of a mayfly to be together. It would be a punishment, ultimately separating them by death. Also, they may like watching humans, but actually being human, without their miracles? That would be horrible and wouldn't work. Having to earn a living? Crowley's way of driving would likely get him killed. Life is cruel and full of death and grief as it is already - let them, at least, have eterinity together. They aren't bored with being immortal - there's no need to literally clip their wings like that.

Most importantly: if Aziraphale and Crowley will be turned in human, so Beelz and Gabriel have to. Which was never even mentioned. Maybe it is a point in S3, but was never mentioned at the trial. Actually, no punishment was really mentioned! I think that actually Crowley and Aziraphale would have the possibility to live immortally together on Earth as long as they don't interfere with Heaven and Hell - or they don't find a more definitive way.

The only time I found an immortal becoming human satisfying was Arwen in Lord of the Rings.
@oakstrong1Ай бұрын
How about this: Arizaphele finds out that God gone missing is because she has fallen in love and secretly lives with Satan - both of them want the apocalypse out of the way so they don't have to pretend being on opposite sides anymore. Arizaphele contacts Crowley and they hatch a plan that prevents apocalypse ever happening - neither Hell nor Heaven are permanent but finally their souls are sent back to earth fro a second chance (redemption). The really accomplished souls are eventually sent to inhabit a new planet and the souls without redemption are sent to another one. Then it's up to them to mould the planet into Heaven or Hell. Or the humans can choose themselves where they go. I forgot to mention our heroes. With the threat of Apocalypse on an infinite backburner Arizaphale and Crowley can "disappear in the crowd and carry on living among and observing humanity unnoticed as they had done, occasionally using just a little bit of magic to keep things interesting. Agnes Nut's descendant discovers she also has some supernatural powers, perhaps clearvoyancy and controlling minor demons.😊

I feel like they will become human but will live forever. Maggie could very much be an angel/demon turned into a human, her great grand mother could be herself and they could use her as an example of a former angel/demon that got to enjoy life on earth as a human. (I dont like this theory but ive been finding it more or less plausible lately. I really hope im wrong tho)

I mean, wasn't it agreed upon by Pratchett and -- back in 2006 that Crowley and Aziraphale retire to a cottage in the South Downs? So that should be part of the end. But cutting their lives short? Doubtful. In the novel, Death and Adam had a conversation: Death: "You cannot destroy me. That would destroy the world." Adam: "Oh, I don't know. There might be a way." Making Death win at the end just doesn't seem right.

I hope too that they don't become human. As many others have pointed out, it would be so wrong that after 6000 years they aren't allowed to spend eternity together. But if they do become human, will there be an afterlife where their happy ending actually is? It would be kind of weird, but an interesting plot twist.

To be honest, I think it'll be cute! I know most people would be furious or leave the fandom if it were to happen. I don't like how we get angry over the smallest things like this and the 90 minutes news. That's what really made me hurt, seeing all the angry comments from posts actually irritated me, not the news. I wish we were more happy and grateful. Ugh!🙄 But yeah, I do see Crow and Azi becoming human at the end. Well, actually, I don't care what ending we'll get. I know for sure it'll be a happy ending. I can hardly wait to see the finale. But I am not sure Crowley isn't suffering fro boredom. When he makes his 'pointless' comment to Shax, he seems pretty bored...maybe also frustrated and a little depressed, but definitely bored. However, the appearance of Jimbriel , threatening his peaceful if boring existence, gets his attention pretty quickly. It sort of struck me that Crowley is like a dog in that he needs a job...or some kind ...to feel 'good', whereas Aziraphale is like a cat in that he creates his own pleasure. So maybe that is what will happen. They will be turned into a dog and a cat. How WILL our heroes cope??!!
