But fans like to bitch and overstate the importance of errors. Besides, errors are a lousy way to grade defense. If a player has limited range and doesn't touch a ball in play, he's not taxed with an error, even though most fielders would've made a play on it. Why did Cashman & Hal let Christian Walker slip under the radar & get signed by the Astros? Would have been an awesome fit at first base. Gleyber was the best leadoff hitter in MLB last 2 months of the season into the World Series. He's been poorly coached & that reflects on Boone plus management. Too many bean counters & not enough real baseball people aka former players running the organization, since George passed the reigns.
@richardallen2687Күн бұрын
I have an answer for your question about Christian Walker. The answer is actually very simple. They didn't want Christian Walker and I agree with their thinking. Walker hit a total of 26 home runs last season and only 3 of them were to right field. He hit a total of 52 extra base hits last year and a total of only 9 of them were to right field. He is also going into to his age 34 season, so if they did sign him and he did not achieve the numbers that they are hoping for their first baseman the Yankees would be stuck with a right handed pull hitting first baseman with a life time batting average of .250. on the other hand, they did sign Paul Goldschmidt and only made a one year commitment who over his entire career has and is considered a power hitter to all fields. As a result there were around 10-balls that he hit this past season to right field that were outs that would have been home runs in Yankee Stadium. So they have committed only one year of a player who has a lifetime bating average of .289 and hits approximately 40% of his fly balls to right field. So analytically he is projected for closer to 30-35 home runs this coming season while Walker is only projected for 24. If the Goldschmidt deal doesn't work out they can merely say goodbye at the end of the season. If the Walker deal had not worked out for three years then they were still stuck with him for an additional two more years and would not have been able to bid on other free agent eligible first basemen in 2026 such as Vladimir Guerrero or even left handed Max Muncy of the Dodgers.

@@richardallen2687Good take on this - thanks
@omenofdust7775 сағат бұрын
Christian Walker has averaged 94 RBI's past 3 seasons. Add 3 Gold Gloves at first base to that & same age as Judge. It's a no brainer unless you're part of the Yankee "suits only" front office. Overuse of analytics has been running & ruining the organization for years. Since George passed the reigns. Not enough real baseball people making decisions like a Gene Micheals or Bob Watson. Your assessment falls right in line with that flawed process. Btw left field porch distance at Yankee Stadium is 318 ft. with Walker batting right. Granted left center is deeper but Goldschmidt also bats right & he'll turn 38 next year. Not an upgrade from Rizzo at all. Short sighted & a non-productive move like so many others in past years.
