I believe this episode was inspired by Melrose Place which was a huge show in the 90s. They had an openly gay character who was regularly featured in storylines, but in an episode where he kisses another man, the camera pulls away just before. This episode of Will and Grace technically was the first prime time show to have an on screen kiss between two gay male characters in the US.

Of course there was the gay kiss in season 1 episode 5 of 'The Wire' in 2002 but that was HBO so I'm guessing it wasn't prime time (I'm from Australia and first watched 'Will and Grace' and 'The Wire' on dvd so I don't know about a lot of these things).

@@agenttheater5 At the time this aired, HBO was a considered a premium cable channel which could be purchased for a additional fee. They notoriously had very limited advertising on the channel and much less restrictive censorship. If you bought/subscribed to HBO any time before, like 2006, you were likely upper-middle class. If you were a boy and your parents also bought the package with Cinemax and you knew the passcode or hacked the remot, you were very popular for throwing sleep-overs.

5:27 I still find it hilarious that even during a protest Jack finds time to hook up with someone

Thanks for the commentary kiddo. Very spot on. Yes, it meant a great deal to us at the time. And I fully believe that it DID BREAK THE DAM....FINALLY! Somebody had to.
