Honestly the fact that he owned up to it and participated in diversity training, did community service and was mentored by a rabbi shows his commitment to his apology. The fact that he has gone though something like this and now has media training this early in his career would make him an easy choice for any team in the nhl late first or early 2nd round at his age. You learn from mistakes, and he’s learned his lesson and matured from it, which is rare for boys his age in the same draft class

Any kind of therapy that's done under duress is worthless. He knew that he had to do all of those things or he was dead in the water. Do them, say the right things, and the problem will go away. He did them, he said the right things and he was drafted in the first round by Las Vegas. He also cost the US the gold medal in the recent U18 tournament. He had the opportunity to take an unnecessary cheap headshot at a Canadian player when the US had a comfortable lead, and he did so. The resulting five minute penalty led to three Canadian goals, and a Canadian victory. It seems that in times of stress it's all about him, and what he wants to do in the moment. He may well turn into a great teammate, hockey player and human being. All I know is that I wouldn't have drafted him in the last round never mind the first. My prediction is that he won't learn, and he will create more unneeded turmoil. He will score lots of goals but ultimately he will still be bad for his team. Then someone else will take a chance ... Rinse and repeat.
@Remmy0930

Comfortable lead? Since when is 3-2 a "comfortable lead" in hockey? Lol. That was the score when Connelly threw his cheap shot. USA was far from having that game in the bag. With or without that penalty...

Obviously no, since he still was taken 19 overall. If you have talent and happens in the past. A sport professional organization will take a chance on you.. I forgot that, because I bet who will be taken higher. Connelly (19) or Liam Greentree (26). I bet Greentree heavy, with Connelly past and it screwed me.

Odd. To think it’s his “upbringing” or a smaller market.. nonsense I’d suggest you look at hockey Canada as a template for positive jr hockey culture(sarcasm emphasized)? Wasn’t there some major hush money and criminal allegations in the press recently? Sadly the kid can obviously play & organizations are more than happy to give him a second , third, fourth, etc chance. Oh, didn’t the defunct coyotes (and later Boston) pick up another “troubled” yoot? Regardless of what his “troubled” past was like? Remember, always- Wins & more importantly, money talks…

This is something that is a hockey thing... NHL/Hockey in general is woke the minute a person had conservative views they are vilified like Provorov and many players followed suit Staals/Reimer ect when it shouldn't matter diversity,whether LGBT Is forced upon kids,immigration it's more accepted in states someone come from Russia,or likes Trump than here. Politics should stay out of sports I remember people saying because Putin started war never mind IIHF play no Canadian team should take Russians look now Demidov,Chibrikov,Podkolzin. Even the NHL kicking Rodewald/Leipsic out NHL isn't right to me I get saying things about teamates players was wrong but it's not a law broken. For year a 5'6 160pound kid could never make NHL but now smaller kids make it when they take fighting,hits,out of game same in NFL new rule changes making league soft but imo Xhekaj and Rempe are bringing excitement old time hockey back. It leads to another issue getting worse youth lack of wanting to win demand things like Mcgroarty,PLD,Gauthier ect yes you can go back and say lindros did it but it didn't happen for years/players still preferred cold/original6 markets trying their best. Now they care less more about money,points,and location taxes/hot. Not willing give everything to team or win a cup and it shows whats most valuable these days big dmen,and charecter gritty forwards who can play playoff hockey when it gets tough.

@ngarcia103
@ngarcia103 2 ай бұрын
@@ClappinBiscuits It was the U18 World Championship (not the World Junior Championship), but yes. In the gold medal game, the U.S. was leading Canada 3-2 with just under 11 minutes left. Canadian player Ryder Ritchie was battling (with a different American player) to get the puck out of his defensive zone when Connelly threw an elbow directly to his head. If you're not familiar with IIHF hockey, their officials are known to have absolutely zero tolerance for head hits. Connelly was assessed a 5 minute major and game misconduct, ending his game and his tournament. On that 5 minute powerplay, Canada would score three times - the latter two goals within a minute of each other - to take a 5-3 lead. Canada would go on to win 6-4, taking the gold medal.

100% correct. And when these things are supported by governments, but the institutions do the work, it actually IS an infringement on freedom of speech and expression, it's just a loophole that authoritarian governments have discovered. They're like the mob bosses who hire hitmen to kill people. They're not actually doing the killing themselves, even though they're backing and financing it.

VGK does not keep prospects. This is a Vegas pick. They picked him with the 100% intention of trading him. They will develop him a bit, maybe, and trade him. He won't be around long. I believe it's a "young kids in vegas = bad" so they don't really keep prospects at this time, with the way they built the team.
