I really admire Allan. He's so down to earth and never forgot where he came from. He is never ashamed of being pinoy unlike most US born pinoys. If you're fil-am or just recently migrated here you know what I'm talking about. Of all my Asian friends, fil ams are the ones who seemed to hide that part of them. I never got that. On the contrary Filipinos in the Philippines, well some of them anyway, push their image of "Filipino" on them. Most Filipino I know in the Philippines love whitening their skin, and it doesn't matter if they are male or female. They pretend they are Northeast Asian, you know because Muh Asian thingy, which is just a fabrication anyway. Most Fil Ams like their dark skin and love being dark. But they are also Americans. There is a difference just like Chamorros and Puerto Ricans are Americans. If anything Filipinos in the Philippines seem to be lost in what their identity is. They have more in common genetically and culturally to the people of the Pacific, and even to some extent, Latin American than anyone in "Asia" yet deny it and think being dark is dirty.

They shouldn't have been shocked, they both lived poor too. Life in the province is different from living in manila and living in some parts of L.A. where they came is better than the province.
