I’ve avoided this day for most of my life. I’ve tried to hide from it. I’ve even tried to ignore it. Since 1993 the 16th Of September has been the worst day EVER in living history as far as I am/was concerned. I was 16 years old when my mum was taken away so suddenly and tragically from us. Most of you guys probably don’t know as I’m not one to broadcast my feelings or open up - especially on social media. But the time has come to meet this head on and hopefully in the process pay a small tribute to the wonderful woman my mother was. There’s no point in me even trying to explain what happened that day from the eyes and heart of a 16 year old boy. But all I’ll say is my world was never the same. I would take 2020 (the covid year) for every year of my life in return for 1993 being uneventful and normal.
This song really took it out of me. I’ll be honest. For it to be done right I had to revisit that day and time and my feelings,those that I never want to experience again. The feelings of a 16 year old boy who just had everything taken away from him. But the song deserved it, her memory deserved it. My mother was always very supportive of me and my love for music. She loved music. She would be absolutely delighted to know I am happy with a career in music. Dare I say it - she would be proud. But these are the conversations we never got to have. For those of you who knew my mother, for those of you related to her etc I hope it helps and you can take something positive from this. And if you knew Mum you knew she wasn’t one for self pity of one to be complaining or moaning etc so the song had to convey this also - so even though it starts of a little low key and somber it builds to something different and takes off. I was trying to imagine her listening to it tbh and she wouldn’t have time for any boring crying crap haha. That’s the way she was. I’m gonna go now before I ....... well you know.
Before I do sign off I want to give a huge thanks to those people who helped me bring this song to life and lend their immense talent and expertise to the song. Cant believe I'm only just seeing this now Barry. Heart felt rendition of your own song. Loved all the old photo's. Youve been to hell and back. I say a prayer at your Mam's grave every time im in Staholmog cemetery. She was a truly beautiful lady. Such a gentle sole. Shed be so proud of you. I pass the place that took your Dad quite often too. The cross is gone but as I'm driving, i put myself in his place and re imagine how it went wrong for him in a split second and he was taken away from you all. Its not the man who falls down but the man who keeps getting up ,that really shows true character. You are all that Barry. ✊️

Some of the best times I've ever had have been when I'm lying across my acoustic guitar among family and friends. And you're right. People are good,especially musicians and music lovers alike. . . I was sorry to hear you lost your German shepherd recently too. I was heartbroken for you. I'm a dog lover myself, and I've had my share of heartache losing ,what I can only describe as my best friends along the way. I've a beautiful German shepherd, Rhodesian ridgeback female cross now called Macha. She's nearly five years old now. Without a doubt, the most loyal dog I've ever had the privilege to have in my life. Very special dog. I hear you've adopted some new dogs yourself. Life just isn't the same without a dog in your life. Keep well Barry and keep her lit 🔥 🇮🇪
