@@katzicaelGaza has been given more than enough money to rebuild. There are like 2 million Gazans. The US alone has given literally tens of thousands of dollars worth of aid per citizen. Build a hotel, put it on the beach, bring over Israeli tourists and collect all that free money. It's been near a hundred years and Palestine is further away from it's goal than it was twenty years when it was further away than it was the twenty before that. They aren't winning, there are more settlements, more Muslim nations recognizing Israel, more cooperation on the border with Egypt. More Palestinians displaced. More civilians killed this last twelve months than the last twelve years and still this pretense. It's time to accept reality. The Jews aren't going to get up and walk out of tel Aviv and you don't have one one thousandth of the military force needed to compel them sign a peace treaty, whatever you can get that provides you with your own state and stop living in a past that will not return no matter the injustice. This decades of sitting around in tents waiting for Israel to just hand you homes is just sad at this point

US is more worried about the possibility of a united Arabic nation IMO. US has spent much time and resources promoting and cultivating divisions throughout the Arab world after the fall of the Ottoman empire. An Arabic superpower would have the wealth of resources to utterly outpace the US.

As a Turkish person i'm not surprised at all. The trust toward the west is all time low since WW2, not only us Indians, Africans and even historical allies in far east watching this freak show with disgust. We know who western leaders are as we kept seeing their double standards for Cyprus or Aegean dispute etc where international laws have been always forgotten in favor of their allies. But many of them seeing it first time, especially so bluntly and everybody began seeing what 'rule based order' means exactly. This ICC decision is not just an attempt to preserve little credibility UN/ICC has left rather the west in general. We are rapidly advancing into a lawless world where everybody writes their own rules and it scares billions of people literally. The west shouldn't be surprised if they face increasingly hostile attitude from across the world..

21:30 UK and Aus are quiet about it, but both did review and seemingly halt some weapon export permits recently - though with no transparency to ensure they've done enough in that space (ignoring the other various ways they're complicit of course). Its a small thing, but there are some shifts there where there's clearly some light consideration of international law. They want to make some pretense of not being complicit, when faced by voters. And in those contexts, I think the ICC warrants are most important for blowing up all the rhetoric of a 'rules based order'. Cause you can't reasonably pretend to care about that, while refusing to arrest mates with warrants.

My UK Labour MP tells me that we must help Israel to defend itself from Iran and its proxies. How do I argue against this? Advice welcome.
@AtheistEve2 күн бұрын
I’d reply telling him/her that, not only should the UK immediately shut off military aid to such an apart hide regime committing war crimes etc, it is also _obliged_ to suspend all other ties: cultural, sport, diplomatic (embassies), trade. The UN has given that directive as well. The UN has issued hundreds of resolutions over the decades since israle was conceived - opposing every action taken by Israek. Shouldn’t our government take those a bit more seriously? Iran is merely complying with international law by attempting to avert a g-n-c-d- while Britain does nothing. I’m lucky. My MP is definitely anti-war and pro-humanity. But I still write/email the Foreign office all the time about the gov stance on Ukraine and Palestine.

I think it was in 2015 that South Africa failed to arrest Al-Bashir when he visited the country (private visit). Jordan also failed to arrest him when he visited in about 2015. There were no consequences for either country as far as I know. South Africa started the process of withdrawing from the ICC after the Al-Bashir incident, but then chaged its mind. (Nrw pr sident I think). When the BRICS meeting was held in South Africa, last uear I think, Putin was asked by the South Africans not to attend. So, South Africa recently has been trying to behave itself and comply with international law!
