No buildings have been spared from the Israeli strikes.
The UN's mine action agency says after more than six months of war, 37 million tons of debris litter the Strip.
Clearing it could take 14 years and likely be slowed down by the unexploded bombs and ammunition scattered throughout Gaza.
For Palestinians living among the rubble that makes for an even more dangerous environment.
And once the war is over, will it be safe for people to return and rebuild?

the unexploded ordinance in the rubble is one thing, but people need to also remember how many thousands of people are still buried under all of that. so the removal of rubble will also continuously include the recovery and dignified burial of all of those remains. that's a point of particular distaste with regards to that temporary pier world central kitchen had created, too. the depth of loss and destruction is utterly unfathomable

If I thought what remained of my flesh that is of no use to my spirit anymore, might be in the rubble that could be used to bring food and reconstruction, I'd have zero problem with that. I've made it clear to my adult children that if the Lord should tarry and my flesh should pass, that I'd like my ashes to be used as part of a planting of a nice shade tree that will grow, bringing shade, cooling, beauty and oxygen to generations in the future.

The billions of dollars going to weapons seem not to be a problem for many world leaders. I don't see why the same amounts should be an issue for rebuilding and reparations for what is and has been happening to the Palestinian people for generations. In addition, the 1967 or even futher back boarders that were established, should and could, provide safe habitable areas for the population of Gaza until it can and should be rebuilt. It may inconvenience "illegal" settlers, too bad! The Palestinian people of this region have been more than inconvenienced for generations. Give them their land back!

I've never seen such destruction! I disagree with the 14 year assessment for the clean-up. I've worked in open-pit mining and seen the same volume (overburden) pre-mining material, cleared away in 3 1/2 - 4 years. Millions of tones of hard compacted earth cleared away. They will need mining equipment for this clean up, maybe be a freight railway built to expedite. A fleet of Cat D11's , Cat 6040, Cat 797's , Cat 24's. Its incredible what this equipment can move in a short time.

I still can't believe we have 80+% of the structures / infrastructure in rubble but only like 1.5% of the population have died. I don't mean to sound insensitive or cold towards their struggle, but wouldn't we expect these two figures to be closer to one another? I mean if you flatten half my home town, I'd expect half the population to die as a result; replace the 1/2 with any fractional number you'd like and it still seems reasonable. I can't explain the discrepancy in the 80+% and 1.5% numbers, but the difference is large enough that there must be a causal reason.
