Gee thanks! Nice to hear to have my work validated and of course you are spot on as you’ll see in part 4 which I hope to get out soon.

Yeah, one cylinder nice and clean and free, the other one corroded and stuck. That's typical of a barn find -- when the bike was put away, one cylinder was on compression and both valves closed but the other (4-stroke cycle exactly 1/2 out of phase, of course) had at least one valve open for 40 years. Any oil in there deteriorated and with the effects of condensation and oxidation, everything is all corroded in one cylinder but not the other. That's exactly how most of them are. Usually, the pistons will clean up but the rings will have so much surface oxidation that they will make far too much friction against the ring lands that they'll never work. Your decision to just go ahead and replace the rings was the perfect one. At least you got lucky in that there was little/no moisture or oxidation where the rings on that cylinder sat in one place for 40 years. If that bore surface rusts. you'll often find a rusted groove in the cylinder bore right where the ring sat. Your process of cleaning the bores, lubing them, and inspecting them is the perfect way to go; it will show up any bore damage caused by the engine sitting. Nice, accurate, knowledgeable work there. Thanks for the video.
