The shifter mechanism isn't too hard to put back in place. Unhook one shift rod from the column, then move the finger that moves between the 2 column arms until it is connected to one of the arms. You should be able to reconnect the rod and shift gears then, at least until it hangs back up in gear.

If you look in a manual it will show you how to adjust the shift rods on the column with a drill bit that fits through both of the rods and a reference hole on the column in neutral position with the adjusters on the transmission levers on the transmission. This is not that complicated and it fixes it almost every time so find that article and there you go.

Easily one of the best vehicles I ever had was a really nice original longbed like that. Same powertrain but with factory tach and soft headliner, coil springs, and a really nice two tone paint job. I had the last payment on the dash and was headed to the post office to mail it when my neighbor's hunting dogs ran out in front of me and I hit a soft shoulder on a bank, rolled it, and mangled the cab. I always wanted to build one like that with a Pontiac 4v OHC six and a T5. It's pretty amazing how resilient those old sixes were. Not surprised at all that one cranked up and ran ok.

I had a 69 Chevy C20. Body rusted away and I sold it over a decade ago now. Sold it running. That thing was the most reliable and easy to work on truck I’ve ever had. Just wish I had gotten it before it had near rusted out. 3 on the tree with a 305. I installed a junkyard manifold for a quadrajet I had lying around and it could do burnouts no problem. Originally had a one barrel if you believe it. Dad always thought it was the motor but I knew better. Loved that truck.

Excellent video Dylan :) I learned on 1968 Chevrolet C10 pickup truck my one late Farmer friend of family in 1990's Navy Blue , Navy Blue Interior , had West Coast mirrors on doors, had 292 with 1 barrel carb Carter think was 500 CFM with Hand choke cable knob in dash work too , Manual transmission of 3 in tree , updated 1978 Chevrolet 15 1/2 ton bolt 377 rear end gears posi , 4 wheel drum brakes too, 7.50/ 16's studs rims factory with chrome dog dishs, fuel tank in behind seat , Am factory GM Delco radio plus antenna one speaker in middle too, 70 amp Alternator plus Generator light work too it , Steering wheel was Chevrolet type with chrome cap for horn switch too and slide back window too ! Chrome front bumper & back to but seat sat on metal pail on driver side Lol and for Gas pedal had Farmall clutch grip on to pivot arm in shape like this backwards T because rubber broke off but mounted on with small door hindge on floor ! But was only truck seen when had clean up brakes drums had Emergency brake handle hook for front and back wheels also factory option and no power steering or brakes too! Plus rad was rare of 4 core and truck suspension was heavy duty for 3/4 or 1ton type frame and called it 5/8 ton ! But was interested truck Dylan also this to Rock Auto sell Three in Tree also lube up Iinkage maybe need heat with torch too unstuck it !

I have a big soft spot for those trucks! my dad had an orange 72 C10 long bed for 20+ years. I grew up riding around in it, and ended up owning it myself for 5-6 years. I miss it a lot, but it was about as rough as that one. Heres my vote, pull the 250 I6 out, freshen it up, 4-barrel and headers, slap a GM T-5 behind it and slide it in that gorgeous 68! then get some V8/trans combo for that truck, get tires and brakes on it, and just go have some fun! burnouts, dirt road sliding, who knows what lol. Great video man!

the mechanisum on the column itself where the rods hook to gets gummed up over time and needs to be lubed up so they both can slide up and down the column freely. those rods and that steering column NEVER WEAR OUT. lube it up well and then work each rod back and forth until the upper arms on the column move back and forth up and down the column. that should solve your problem unless your clutch disc is shot, but even if it is those rods and the mech. will still move as they should. dont give up on it! i drove this same same setup from 1982-1992 and gave it hell! lol,,,

I’ve got a 69 C10 that same color! (It’s called Maroon Poly, and it’s the rarest color for 69 Chevy trucks). That two-tone isn’t original, though; they didn’t start that two-tone style until 1971 (I actually added the same two-tone to mine when I restored it). That truck looks to have similar options to mine, too: 3-speed manual, deluxe side trim, painted bumpers, heavy duty suspension (that’s why it has the 6-bolt wheels. It’ll also have rear coil springs like a newer Ram). It looks like the only major differences I can see between this one and mine is that mine has a 307 small block instead of a 6, mine has deluxe gauges, and mine has a black interior instead of the red one like this one. I’d love to know if this one has the wood bed floor, too. You’ve got a mighty rare truck there!

I think the issue with the trans is that the trans mount broke and bent something when that thing rolled on it's passenger side. Likely, the drivetrain flopped about a bit when it was on it's roof. That also explains the hood dent, roof dent and generally mangled state for the passenger's side fender, and why it was used for parts. It's probably what parked it.

I'm willing to say you have enough there to make that other truck run. Just put the drive train in the other and maybe whammy the corner of that hood back out and you've got a runner with a more straight body. That 250 is just about indestructible. The other truck reminds me of a '67 Chevy my friend's dad owned back in 1989. Same color. She was a little tired but a ran great. A little dented but no rust. Only issue is it had the old GM ignition switch that didn't require a key. One morning they woke up to find it gone. It was later found in a school parking lot with the 6 cylinder missing. They sent it to the salvage. I wish I'd had the smarts to snatch that old truck up after that! Coulda put in a new ignition switch, dropped a 350 in it and had something!

If the gold one was column shift originally, then definitely my vote would be to drop the motor and box out the red one and transplant it. Sure she smokes a bit and is running on five, but you've not dug into that side of it yet and she aint knocking or wheezing, so at worse it's a stuck (or badly burnt) valve and at best it's a dead plug or rings that need a few heat cycles to reseat. The smoke will be because of (that very old) oil passing the rings until they bed in again after sitting so long plus the fact it was running on full choke. Seriously, if the gold truck is any better in its body and interior, swapping the donk and box will give someone a good looking and running rig while they save up for the inevitable LS swap.....and put one of them back on the road with little time and effort.
