Brings back some memories. We were a Glasstream dealer in the late 1980s. They were a copy of Laser boats and performed very well. Fast boats with an efficient hull design. I remember distinctly a black and silver one exactly like this one we rigged with a Yamaha ProV 150. It ran very well. I think radared that one in the mid 70 mph range. They were relatively cheaply built boats though, but were priced accordingly. Surprised to see a survivor. Most would completely rotted out by now. Floor, transom, stringers. Chryslers were our old mechanics favorite engines. Not the fastest engines but cheap, low cost to maintain, simple design, easy to work on, and reliable. They always came with crappy aluminum props though. Thanks for the video. Sentimental for me.

@@NoNonsenseKnowHow Can't believe you got it going so easy. I mean I haven't watched the whole video yet but did they put power packs in those older motors back then. Only boat motor I ever worked on was my 98 evinrude and an 89 Mercury that I should have tied a rope to and used as an anchor. I loved my little evinrude except when I lost a power pack. The boat ran fine out the water, It would crank and sound regular but stick it in some water and yeah, it would crank and idle fine but put the gas to it and it would run fine but it wouldn't run much faster than idle. It would stand up but never get up enough power to plane off. It's amazing what all little things can cause so much trouble. I'll be damn if Chrysler didn't dabble in just about every little thing. You can't say they didn't try. Yeah, the old Chryslers and around my area the 80's yamahas were the sought after motors. I got a newer model yamaha. It's ok but i'll tell you what, I miss my ole little 2 stroke Evinrude. Even though I lost the power pack, I took it off the boat and threw it in the dirt for 2 years because it had me so pissed until one day I went and got it out the dirt, put some clean gas to it and the damn thing fired right up, still had the power pack problem but got it fixed and that motor ran like it was brand new until the day I sold it. Great work my man. You got a new subscriber. Owning a boat you can never have to many boat mechanic channels, especially good ones.

A little history on Chrysler outboards for those that don’t know. Not sure what year the first Chrysler outboard came out but I know 1984 was the last year they had the Chrysler name on them. US marine bought them in 1985 I believe. The motors remained white for a few years afterwards then they started painting them black and changed the cowlings. No through hub exhaust and not having the engineering they couldn’t compete with other engine manufactures. Later on Mercury marine took them over.

Those old Lowrance flashers are pretty bulletproof. Being outside for years might kill it.

Do a all out boat rebuild!!! You will get tons of viewers if you do. Rebuilding the floor and fiberglass everything, that would be so cool 😎

how are the stringers - if they are rotten like every other bit of wood it's alot of work

Yes they are, too much work imo! I'm very thankful, I own a 1978 17' er and it has glass stringers. Had a 1977 same brand and it too had glass stringers
