Somebody fried that LED,Staining is likely melted plastic from led,several manufacturers have drop in decoders,not sure on sound install

Love your channel. These things are tiny!! When my neighbor was moving out of state, he gave me a CON COR N SCALE ERIE PA-1 set. (powered unit, dummy engine and a couple cars.) along with about 10 feet of track. Wish I knew what I have!!!

I have a Con-Cor EMD E8 and it runs great.

So question why does this E8 look like a long version of the F7

It basically is. It's just stretched to have 2 prime movers and triple axle trucks because EMD needed more horsepower but wasn't into using turbos at that time so they just stuck on a second prime mover.

E units are great looking locomotives. That's a clean one.

Thanks. I love E units as well. I wish they would have stayed around longer. But with single prime movers becoming more powerful it was only a matter of time before those big dual monsters were on the short road to retirement.

I have a pair of these purchased new in the '90s. One has a bad headlight bulb that has burned out twice. This must be a common problem.

That's pretty interesting David. There could very well have been part of a run or an entire production run that had poorly binned or rated LED's leading to the failures of yours and mine. I think I'm going to eventually have DDC and Sound installed in this unit so I can live without having a headlight, for now.

@@Trains-With-Shane I replaced the burned out LED obtained from Kato twice, and both times they burned out immediately. No problem with the other Amtrak E8, bought the same time with a different number.
