Will It Run? the Cheapest Yamaha Zuma on Marketplace

I found this 2002 Yamaha Zuma on facebook marketplace for only $150!! The guy said that all it needed was a battery and some TLC but as you can see, it needed just a little bit more work than just a battery. In this video I start with basic troubleshooting and then tear into the variatior clutches to discover that there were some loose metal "drum" rollers floating around inside which was causing the motor to feel like it was seized. I took it all apart and cleaned everything up and to my surprise, after a few kicks, the Zuma came back to life and runs and rides Great. Not a bad score for $150 even though the seller was a complete and total D-bag liar. Luckily I was able to fix it. Not as cool as a FREE Dirtbike or a FREE Waverunner but these little mopeds are fun to ride.

Wow that was impressive and very well thought out. I have a 2003 zuma and it's been a Rockstar for 19 years. I've only ever put tires on and brake pads and the fuel petcock was leaking at one point and I took it apart and cleaned the diaphram and it was good to go. Sadly last week it died on a fishing expedition. The spark plug was dry so I took apart the carb and the intake was plugged with sand and dirt so I cleaned the jets and all other carb parts. Put it back together and it was getting fuel to the cylinder but still wouldn't run. I figured maybe the spark plug got hot when it ran dry so I put in a new plug still wouldn't run. Tested the plug and it had good spark. Now I'm completely dumb founded. Won't even pop with starting fluid into the cylinder. I'm at a loss at this point. Figure it's either the carb is bad or the Reed valves are shot. Or worst case the compression is low. Ordered new reed valve and carb and fuel petcock. If that doesnt work compression is my next step. I have it basically stripped down to the frame and it was a nightmare getting every piece off the bike. Bottom line is that I have a ton of memories on my zuma and it has been such a beast all these years I don't want to give up on it. Fingers crossed I can sort it. They are really solid machines and can take a beating. I only wish I was as mechanical as you are. Excellent work..

Yes you are handsome and mechanically inclined my kickstarted jammed when i tool it to burningman. I love my zuma had it for 6 years never call it a moped there are no pedals on a scooter

For my cvt cover I stripped the bolts and had to get a long flathead and pry off the cover with the screws still in

I just bought a Zuma 50cc 2004 with 4.000 miles on it. It runs great and it seems to be well maintained. I only use it to run errands and go to the beach. How many miles do you think you can put on these little mopets? Thanks!

There is no motor oil in a 2 stroke engine. Only 2 stroke oil that mixes in with the gas.

mine is smoking like crazy like yours. It also spits a black (maybe oil fuel mix) out of the tailpipe. Looks like the problem cleared up by the end. Did you do anything?

Perhaps somebody added pre-mixed gas/oil into the gas tank? Maybe drain some of the gas out to check. Maybe your oil injector pump is faulty and moving too much oil? I’m not sure. Mine smokes a bit when it first starts up but after a couple minutes of warmup, it will not smoke nearly as much.

Check to see if it has a broken drive belt
