Jack, I like to see people, who work like myself. Clean and the area I am working in. When people see the work space, the area that we’ve work in and on. Just says something about the person and quality. Look forward to seeing more videos as I am down with a bad back for a while. Just keep watching your numbers , they will go through the roof. Take care be safe Tony

Thanks Tony, appreciate the kind comments. Sometimes my work area is a complete mess but that’s because I don’t have time to keep it tidy so I have to spend the next evening tidying everything back where it belongs!

A Lister engine is something to behold, so reliable and will when serviced properly just go on and on and on. Looks like a nice find, any rust looks to be superficial, will look really nice when it's been re furbished. A new subscriber from 🇬🇧!

Agreed it was a solid machine, I have a few more dumpers coming up that are beyond rotten. Hopefully the new owner is doing well with this one.

Great job on the video! Especially for a newbie. Your volume was fine. I had my volume at half so I wouldn't wake my wife on the other side of the house. Never mind the trash talkers, you will always get them. If they don't like your videos they can make their own. Keep up the fine work.

The firm I work for had 3 of those dumpers. They will go on forever. Had to sell them , a little bit Smokey on sites these days. Wish we still had them. Well done on the project. Over the years I did everything that you’ve done apart from the handbrake cable bracket. We always managed to get the parts from Nic Mortimer.
@jacksgarageworkshop
@jacksgarageworkshop Жыл бұрын
Wow nice! Seemed like a good machine, I did search for anyone listing parts for it but think they are long gone and weren’t big enough for anyone to still stock spares like a Thwaites or Benford
@stevecolledge5597
@stevecolledge5597 Жыл бұрын
@@jacksgarageworkshop The name Mortimer is still alive as Mortimer Vibroll ltd who still manufacture single drum vibrating rollers but still stocked dumper parts the last time I was in contact with them. The dumpers were originally a ‘Stothert and Pitt ‘ design s were the rollers that Mortimer Vibroll still manufacture.
@jacksgarageworkshop
@jacksgarageworkshop Жыл бұрын
@@stevecolledge5597 I wondered if Stothert and Pitt were the same. Shame I didn’t realise they were still around. My fault for going to a few big parts suppliers and not finding anything and giving up.

@stevecolledge5597 Жыл бұрын
@@jacksgarageworkshop the sad thing is that you have sold the dumper on , and the information was not of any use to you but perhaps it may help another owner of a Mortimer or stothert and Pitt machine to get some spares or information from Mortimer Vibroll.

That brake caliper looks like a Jaguar XJ6. Replacement pads are available. Beware the pins that the two arms swing on seize up. From the outside it looks like you just remove a 7/16 hex bolt but it is a pin and about 50mm long but only about 5mm diameter so very easy to shear off.
@jacksgarageworkshop
@jacksgarageworkshop Жыл бұрын
Interesting, it would make sense that they used parts from common cars. I suspected the handbrake cable was off a car but couldn’t find a catalog to compare length and fittings.
@stevedunford7632
@stevedunford7632 Жыл бұрын
@@jacksgarageworkshop For your application the jag cable would be too long. For info only, the jag has inboard brakes either side of the differential. The cable inner hooks to one of the levers and the cable outer hooks to the other so when you apply the brake it pulls both levers towards each other.

Only thing I would have to make that brake pedal removal easier would've been to clean the exposed end first. Just so your not fighting it all the way.

Hi, just a suggestion, you should have checked the solenoid, power has to pass through that before the motor gets any voltage, an old trick used to be give the solenoiud a sharp rap as power applied and especially as the machine has sood for so long. its a good possibility that the solenoid is seized solid and it can also be removed withe starter still fitted to the machine.
@jacksgarageworkshop
@jacksgarageworkshop Жыл бұрын
True, it did turn over but too slowly and I thought it was a corroded starter internally making it ‘lazy’. I was wrong and my jumps leads were atrocious. Poor diagnosing by me either way.
@pauldionne1665
@pauldionne1665 Жыл бұрын
@@jacksgarageworkshop the service to the starter will be around for a long time. This was not a miss diagnosis. Job well done.

Yes, I come across that frequently on the machinery I work on either the the plunger is sticky or seized or the contacts have gone black with corrosion/burning.
