It was part of the McCullough family the best saws ever made for building the Panama canal they are simple to fix the choke pull out a circular baffle over the carburetor the pump diaphram is probably the only thing ever goes bad has self oiler or manual oiler

at milemarker1:04:00 looking at the tank flange or mating surface, on the bottom right and upper left there's recessed cavities where the tank bolt go through, any idea what those are for? like an oring expansion groove yet there's not oring. the upper left has orange in it? the bolt holes are all drilled through to outside atmosphere, while they're not an engineered part of the sealing, where oil isn't supposed to be subject to leaks unless the seal on the insides of them failed. i changed the filter line a few years ago and slightly cleaning the surface it looked like for a seal (or gasketed factory attempt) was this clear film of liquid gasket material and part of it scraped off. any way i used some kind of make a gasket junk from permatex that claimed is was gas resistant. it was for a few years is all. which might be the best approach of fixing it just every few years a redo of it working, it started leaking alot. i'll watch the rest of the video you have to see what you do with it. adding the orings in the recess could cause trouble if the don't compress, but that's not a sealing issue. bar bolts have to be a close press fit as they just squeeze through the case. i was looking for the best compound to seal the case, a dressing or loctite the bolts with medium. only not spend 50 dollars on a .5oz tube of loctite with the prep crap activator stuff that only can be used this one time, with the prices sky high now. i'm thinking clean it in alcohol and put peanut button on it. gaskacinch and aviation gasket crap never works. any ideas on the gasket or mating halves? thanks.

Hola al final que le hiciste a la bomba de aceite le cambiaste la membraba o solamente la limpiaste? espero su respuesta gracias.Tengo una igual y se me rompio la manguera del aceite me sirvio de ayuda su video para poder desmontarla

In the end I just cleaned and inspected it. It was still in great shape so I just reassembled it and it worked.

You can set the throttke open by pressing it in then lifting the lever on toop thebn release the lower trigger. Not sure why you did not try and start it before breaking it down.

I have one of these that I believe is a 1996 model. The only spec sheet that I can find says it's a manual oiler, and mine definitely is. Not a biggie. But I have to ask about that little thing where the fuel line exits the tank. Mine doesn't have it. Or a vent in the fuel cap that I can find. So, after a few minutes of cutting the motor puts the tank under a vacuum and she stalls. Is there a vent in that little grommet thing?
@DavidWeidner102 жыл бұрын
Its been a bit and I've sold the saw but.....I think that the fuel line just pulls through a hole in the side of the plastic tank then into the metal part of the chainsaw. There is a fuel filter on the end of the line in the fuel tank. I cant remember and cant go look since I don't have the saw anymore but....The cap must have some built in way to let air in. Often its a "duckbill" little rubber valve. Poke around and inspect the cap carefully and you will find some way that it lets air in. It might be clogged up or the duckbill thingy (if it has one) needs to be squeezed to verify that it didn't get stuck together closed. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I've got a 486, the oil system is automatic with a manual boost if required, have a look, mine has an aluminium disc on the underside with the oil pump unit in it.

in the lid gotta replace the little rubber flapper or the fuel cap
@kyleree675711 ай бұрын
@@garrettlee4293 There wasn't one, or even a gasket. So, I put an O ring in so it won't leak everywhere, then drilled a hole in the top and added a duckbill valve.

all the 600 saws very very close-Just finished replacing the oil line-not an easy job-you must tear the engine almost all the way down-don't remove the carb- two piece oil tank-use moto seal by permatex to reseal
@rgcrowman3188Ай бұрын
what do you use to replace the white foamy looking stuff that the fuel line goes through into the tank. mine wont seal on the line anymore
@DavidWeidner10Ай бұрын
Hmm. I'm not sure since I didn't have to replace it. I think that you can buy a rubber bung with a hole in it....I know they make them for RC airplane tanks...I know some 2 cycle weed eaters and chainsaws and whatnot have them too. You would just need to measure the size first and get the appropriate one that fits the tank and line. Good luck with your project and thanks for watching and the comment!

these are one of the best saws under logging saws that i've ever seen except maybe david bradley, that hand pump oiler all that i can see is it's just air pump that pressurizes the tank. i'm thinking the whole shittery is the pump is just air pump from manual or crank pressure and the oil then squeezes out the holes to the bar. that adjustment screw just adjust the amount of gas pressure; 2 things about that rtv use. it'll last maybe a couple of years and then it turns to jelly. also when surfaces squeeze together the parts inside the tank will break off and plug the ports of the oil discharge hole. it falls apart on the surfaces of the gasket but the pieces inside will last forever and i think it chemically changes the oil to emit some sort of chemical that all the stickers come off of the saw, unless it's the gas the oil these days are trash.

turns out the pump isn't an air pump, it does function like a loop, so i had that wrong big time.

Hey friend, just took apart one of these. Cleaned it, replaced fuel line and filter. Got it running but 2 things I noticed. 1. Uses up a lot of gas in short amount of time (probably tuning issue?) 2. Gas is starting to puddle up in carburetor housing under the air filter. Not a ton but enough. Do you have any suggestions for me?
@DavidWeidner10 Жыл бұрын
Hmm...unfortunately I can't think of what would cause what you are seeing. I guess verify that your fuel lines are not leaking....maybe they are not sealing where they go on the carb tube? As for gas usage....when the saw is tuned and running correctly it uses what it uses. It cannot use too much (unless a leak)....it simply wouldn't run right. Good luck and thanks for watching!
@Mrdubomb Жыл бұрын
the oem fuel lines have a bulge in the middle to seal the tank, otherwise you will leak gas everywhere.

What size fuel line did you use, did it seal at the tank ok?
@DavidWeidner10 Жыл бұрын
Hello! Thanks for the question. I honestly don't know what size...I just grabbed my stash of left over pieces of tygon tubing and eyeballed the inner diameter and the outer as compared to the dried up one that I found in the saw. When I poked it in the vent hole it made a pressure fit....and the other end went on the vent piece and through the hole so I called it good.

When you rebuild the cacarburetor squrt a little gas in carburetor for first start
@jamesrichardson5597 ай бұрын
Why did he take it apart???? Pour a little gas in the tank, flush. clean the filter, refill, squirt a shot of gas in the cylinder through the spark plug hole and It would have started. Do it all the time on the 600 series in way worse shape than that nice one.
