Will Lee - My LIVE attempt at Willie Weeks’ classic bass solo!

Hey hey I've got something really fun to share with you! 📣🙌
This clip is from a recent night at The Sugar Bar in NYC with Dennis Collins & Friends. It’s my attempt at Willie Weeks’ classic bass solo on “Voices Inside (Everything Is Everything)” from “Donny Hathaway Live”.🤩

After years of admiring this gem, there’s of course only ONE person who could have gotten it right - Willie Weeks Y’all! His solo was so special, producer Arif Mardin and Donny H knew it - it was spliced onto a different take that the band had recorded on the other coast! The great Mr. Weeks performed the original in the early ‘70’s. Willie was already becoming a high-demand bassist, but his solo was so monstrous, it put him on the musical map forever. ♾️
I had one take to replicate it, and here’s how it came out. OK, it’s not note-perfect, but the intent is there…..It’s more like “Will Lee’s Weak”. I’d give myself a “C” but I had fun trying!! 🤣🤣
