Don't know how we went from "when are we getting rid of this guy?" to "when is this guy getting his new contract?" Seriously it's time for a fuckin change. This is where the change needs to happen.

Ok, Mr Armchair Manager - who are you going to change? Who will you try to trade? Who will you get? Do you really think the management hasn’t looked around to see what they could get in a trade? To trade you need 2 teams who think they will get something beneficial out of it. Marner has a no-trade clause. So does Tavares. The option they had was to trade Willy, but they didn’t (which I think might have been a mistake as he is often lazy, afraid to go in corners, and has defensive lapses). So, what would YOU do under these circumstances?

@@profdave2861you make good points, but i would have a sitdown with Marner and tell him to waive his NTC or he is benched all year. This is a business, screw his feelings. He is not good enough to help you win a cup. It just wont happen with him.

Marner is overrated. Not worth the hassle. The leafs know he wants to stay hence then having an upper hand. Give him a number around 7-8 and that’s it. Otherwise he can walk.

Marner isn't as good as he thinks he is. He is not a top 20 player in the league but expects to be paid like he is. Take a discount on a short term deal and prove yourself while still making around 10 million.

He absolutely is top 20. More like top 15…. Arguably top 10. You’re a delusional leafs fan. He’s ranks 9th in points per game at 1.24(100 point per season pace) since 2019-2020, and 3rd among Canadian skaters behind Mackinnon and Mcdavid. 4th is Crosby at 1.16, Stamkos 1.10.

@@nukeshock7305that is delusional. Like other dude said in terms of points he has pretty much always been top 15, with iirc 3 times being top 10 and likely would have had a career high this last year if not for injury. That is consistently pretty good. People say he doesn't show up in the playoffs but ppg wise he shows up more than any other leaf of this era, hes just not a physical player. Hes not a 12m dollar player, imo he should be 10m at his current skill level, that should have been both him and Nylander but we shall se. Personally I have him top 15 I don't see how you could possibly name up to 20 players rn who are better than him

This wouldn't be a distraction if the Leafs front office cared more about winning a Cup and actually traded him when he needed to be traded, but as it stands, they have so little passion for winning that a good regular season team that puts up empty points against random teams on random nights is good enough for the Shanaplan. The Shanaplan needs to be Shanacanned and it should've honestly been Shanacanned after the Montreal series. If only the Leafs owners wanted a winning team. I guess they don't have to want a winning team when people will pay the obscene prices for tickets since they don't know what they're looking at and don't know how to make the building sound less like a morgue at Leafs games.

Your saying Marner can drive his own line. Split them up and than tell me how good Marner is cause Matthew's has proved multiple times it doesn't matter who he plays with. Can Marner say the same? He won't be breaking any records that's for sure! Hasn't lived up to current contact let alone a raise!

What is there even to negotiate? I mean, he's not making more than Mathews and both sides want a long term deal. Is the hill the leafs/ Marner die on between 12.5 - 13 mil? What is it the Marner camp wants that is so important, that the leafs/Marner are willing to walk to free agency? They can say all they want about distractions but in this market they know they're going to be asked every single day. So either just sign him or walk away.

The majority of people seem to think they are gonna sign him for more, even though I don't think it's likely. More than likely he takes a slight pay cut, down to 10m with tavares taking a much higher cut if he stays in Toronto. Of course this is all assuming he does about how he did last season. If marner goes on a 115 point tear and the leafs make it past the first round, it's pretty decent chance he could still make more with the taveres money coming off the books.

So much delusion amongst the leafs fan base. Marner had 97 points in 72 games during 2021-2022 which = 110 points had he played 82. 99 in 80… 102 or more if he plays those 2 extra games. Points per game is what counts most when evaluating a players production. You guys don’t know what you have. You won’t replace him when he walks in July. John Tavares at 11 mil is/was one of the worst contracts ever signed for a forward when considering his analytics.

look, I hate the leafs with a burning passion as much as the next non-leaf fan. But Marner? His contract wouldn't be so bad in a vacuum. However, it isn't in a vacuum and frankly, spending so much of their money on so few players is really what kills the leafs everytime in both direct and indirect ways.
