Great videos. I'm getting ready to do the exact same thing with my vmax and these videos definitely help. I have a pretty long automotive background and I'll have my dad helping me - he's been a mechanic for 55 years, but we haven't messed with outboards much. I have my old block. It will need some minor machine work to clean up one of the cyclinders aling with that one head. let me know if you're interested in it.

Nice. I'm looking at a 20' Mako with an 04 Yamaha Vmax 250 hpdi, with approx 560hrs Would you recommend this motor??

Ya they are good motors, seems like if most make it past the 200hr mark they run forever

What was the break in procedure?

What I did was unhook the oiler rod so it was pumping at 100% while running at all times, for max lubrication. let it idle till warm. Keep it under 3-4k rpms for for about 10hrs total then let her eat after that!

I don’t know why Yamaha doesn’t use better metals for making there outboards I never seen a mercury or evenrude block rot that’s crazy
