lol. Hated being the open ocean for 10 minutes yet wants to cross to Bahamas. Check the weather, and go out on calm days and get some experience. Learn what speed to drive the boat in the given conditions. It is intimidating for sure, as they say, calm seas don’t make good sailors. Looking forward to seeing you make the crossing.

Hey quick advice from someone who grew up sailing in the Caribbean, whenever you anchor your boat in the sea, and especially on sand, you want to have a some of your chain resting on the bottom behind the anchor, so it doesn't get dragged by the current, the winds or waves. It can happen quicker than you think !

As a fellow boater I would definitely pursue the guy just to teach him a lesson, we are supposed to have each other back out on the water! I would definitely make him pay for a reputable shop to check my transom and change the parts that were broken during the event and paint my engine brand new since his lack of attention put you guys on that situation. Sad to see you learned your lesson the hard way, now you know. We all have had our hiccups on the water and people like that ruins it for everybody else. Among the boating community we also refer to that island as “monument island” is probably one of the cleanest island that you can visit here in Miami, it gets full quicker because of its size but that’s what I like about it, no many boats can fit on the island so usually less craziness compared to its bigger brother called “la islita” which is right after you pass the bayside bridge coming from Crandom park marina. Glad to see your liking the Miami boat life, hopefully that does not change when you get to experience the summer boat madness haha. Nice videos, keep them coming….

With the top end rpm check all fuel systems for debris and make sure you have clean fuel with no water if issue precedes your fuel pumps are starting to go out. Also touch the the ground and sending wire in the back if the fuel gauge to pin out the gauge and make sure the fuel gauge is working properly.
@heleneperreault63142 күн бұрын
Brandon, advice from a marine mechanic but also good for all types of toys. Use premium fuel, it will ensure clean fuel always goes through your engines and will protect them much longer. If you have old fuel or moisture in your tank it can create skipping. Premium fuel preserves much better too.
@raisingcane225Күн бұрын
There is a huge difference crossing to Bimini than just traveling the same distance in the inter coastal waterway and/or Biscayne Bay or just off the coast before you are in open blue water. You can’t underestimate the Gulfstream current and the open ocean, especially when the winds are out of the N or NE or even east. On a boat that size you need a good 4-5 day consistent weather and wind pattern forecast, and do NOT try crossing with a N or NE wind especially if it’s over 10 knots or you’ll have a nasty crossing. I strongly suggest you cross with a reliable buddy boat and also get an EPIRB and a handheld VHF in addition to a fixed mount VHF if you have it. I would even get a Personal Locating Beacon along with EPIRB for redundancy. Don’t try Bimini until earliest very late May or into June when the winds become more consistent and more predominantly out of the SE or S (under 10knots and seas under 3 feet as well). You may want to consider doing more boating down around the Keys and gain more experience before attempting a Bimini crossing.

First of all, it is almost always rough in the cut. You need to make it out some before truly judging how the day is for your vessel. Second, you need to learn how to operate the boat (speed and angle to the waves) to minimize the impact of the waves. A 24 footer is capable of doing the crossing, but it is borderline....you're going to have to exercise some knowhow or get lucky with the weather for it to be an easy day on the water.

The engines running cold might be the reason your feeling a misfire while underway. I would pick up an infrared laser thermometer, there about $20 at harbor freight / Amazon. While underway in calm conditions with the cowlings off your wing man can check the engine temps to verify its not your boats temp gauges acting up. If the engines are actually running cold I would fix that before going to the Bahamas.

I used to make that run through the Intercoastal and never had to go outside - you need to forget about the auto Plotter and use the charts to plot your own routes - my favorite route to the outside was Creaser's creek, south of Elliot Key - that also put me for a strait run down to John Pennekamp for diving - I just watched your crash - back in the 80's I had to tow an expensive open fisher from the lighthouse to Ocean Reef Club because he forgot to fill his fuel tanks - cost me over 40 Gals fuel and after he told me he forgot his wallet and walked away I discovered I broke a blade off one of my props - I had a 22 Sportcraft with Twin 125 Force motors - since they put 15inch motors on a 25inch transom set wide - I spent a month changing the pitch and cup on the props to stop the cavitation - because of this I had to buy two new props - that was the last time I towed anyone - everything I towed I got screwed with damage and no one would give you a dime - you will never see or hear from him again - he knows he damaged your motors and does not care - welcome to South Florida -
