I'd install the good starter and test the engine before doing all the work to swap it out. If it works it might feel like a waste of time, but if the engine doesn't work you will have saved yourself hours and hours of labor.

I would most definitely swap the starter because you’re gonna have to do it regardless when you swap the engine. I would do it to make sure that the engine in the beat up car is even worth swapping into Janice. It will save you a lot of heartache and headache in the end.

Great video Mike. I always wanted the 280SE with the fuel injection, but i have the 280S with dual carburetors. Having seen all the work you went through to get THAT system working, I'm glad i just need to rebuild my Zenith carburetors this winter. It sounds like you will be investing in a lot of tires soon. I have done a bench or better known as a rack run of an engine. I have had several engines in this setup and will use it when doing an engine rebuild or to make sure an engine will run before going through all the work of swapping it for a bad one.

Mike, you need a small gas tank with a pump setup. This way, you can have that close to the engine, and you don't need the car's fuel system. The guy from The Late Brake Show(KZbin channel) has one, it is pretty cool. You should remove the started from Janice and try it with that.

I'd go ahead and do the starter unless Mercedes made it especially difficult for some reason. I'd want to make sure the engine was running well before spending the time to put it in another car.

Mike I know you have had a kick in the pants with the maserati tho do yourself a favour, take the starter out and swap it. Make sure you get it running before you remove it??? It could still have al of janices problems? Also that shell is worth a thousand dollars as it sits, they are usually full of holes getting them to that standard is usually 15k worth of panels and welding. The guy across town will LS swap it anyway you are doing him a favour taking the motor out. BE Smart with your money things are getting messy in the next 12 months!!!

Mike...you do realize you will be pulling the starter on the good car when you pull out the engine...what I would do is yank out the bad engine out of the good car...and install the now easy to remove starter into the parts car and crank it over...to find out if all that future work is for nothing.
