Will Otis Walk Again? | Chicago Fire

When Otis is injured by stray bullets during a fire he is taken to Chicago Med with the risk of never being able to walk again. The house owner responsible gets away with no charges but wrestles with the damage

Firehouse 51 responds to a call of a residential fire, but things take a dramatic turn when gunshots are fired in the home and Otis is severely injured. The gunfire turns out to come not from a shooter but from the ignited cache of ammunition the family's teen son owns. Brett discovers her true feelings for Antonio Dawson but is disappointed when she finds out that he had been set up on a blind date. Also, Casey pushes Severide into showing his true feelings for Kidd. After the mother in the house fire dies, tragedy comes to the teen after criminal charges against him are dropped.

In America it is both Normal and perfectly legal to have firearms and ammunition in the House. Should he have told them YES but also he was probably in serious shock from the fire so did he have the focus or mental ability to think of it in that moment? probably not. Could he still have told them sooner than he did also yes. But there is no surprise and legally he didn't shoot them or lay a trap for them so there is nothing to charge him with. Other than possibly something like Negligence causing Death but since Otis didn't die even that would'nt hold up in court

The actual incident: There were no loaded guns. The boy had a bunch of boxes of ammo in his room when the house caught fire. The heat caused the ammo to go off and explode randomly. The mother was 'shot' too The worst thing the kid did was forget to tell the firefighters about it because he was in shock.... so, as awful as it is, the only crime here is that a kid can even legally get access to that much ammo ...but that's an american issue in general

Gun shouldn’t be loaded that’s a hazard, failure to reveal life threatening information to the fire officers which could result in further injury or loss of life is negligence and is punishable by the law.

Insufficient gun regulation. Where I'm from, ammunition is required by law to be stored in a specialized bullet-resistant container kept away from the firearm. Both the ammo and gun have to be safely locked away so that unauthorized individuals can't get their hands on it. If the authrorities find you haven't followed these regulations, they can confiscate all your firearms and revoke your permit.

I agree guns should definitely not be kept loaded but laws in some state stating that the bullets have to be a certain amount meters away from the gun are also dumb cause when you need guns normally are in emergencies.

Kid should still be charged for endangerment. I get that he was scared from the fire but the moment he heard there were gunshots in the house, he should've told them about the armory he has. Instead he hesitated and because of that, the help for Otis was delayed. Pretty sure they all would've understood better if it went like: "Who's shooting in the house?" "Oh wait! No, it's not a shooter, I forgot! I've guns in my room and some of them are still loaded!"
